Liverpool is hopeful that starting goalkeeper Alisson Becker will be fit in time for their Premier League clash against Manchester United at Anfield on December 17. The Liverpool keeper is expected to be sidelined for at least two weeks after suffering a hamstring injury.

Alisson went down with his hamstring injury during the Reds’ 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last Saturday. Still, the timeline for his recovery is not confirmed. “We have to see — not day by day, he will not play tomorrow [Thursday], not on Sunday, probably not the week after. Then it should be kind of OK,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted.

It has, however, been confirmed that the Brazilian goalkeeper will be absent from Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League games against Fulham, Sheffield United, and Crystal Palace. The Reds are also without forward Diogo Jota for several weeks after he picked up a muscle injury.

Liverpool have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich for the transfer of midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, sources confirmed in the early hours of Friday morning. The Premier League club has agreed a fee of €40 million ($43.4m), with the 21-year-old set to undergo a medical at Liverpool later in the day.

Brazilian club Fluminense has rejected a €30 million ($32.5m) offer for local midfielder André from Liverpool, sources confirmed on Wednesday. While the Reds are hoping to sign the talented Brazilian before the transfer deadline at the end of this month, the Brazilian club wants to hold onto him at least until the end of the season.

Fluminense’s board alerted Liverpool that even if they decide to increase their offer for the player, the club would not allow André to depart this season. Forward Roberto Firmino has confirmed that he will not be renewing his contract with Liverpool once its lapses in June. This means that the Brazilian will depart Liverpool after spending the last eight seasons with the club.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has been notified of Firmino’s decision to leave, however, he did not raise the subject during his press conference on Friday. Klopp did previously express his desire to keep Firmino at the club beyond June.

“He is really important, the link-up play, in tight areas and how we want to play,” Klopp said of Firmino. “Maybe he wouldn’t fit right with all the clubs in the world but to most definitely because having a player with his footballing intelligence, you can develop the game from here and score… He is so unselfish on top of that, and you don’t get that very often. He is a great player.”

During his time at Anfield, Firmino scored 107 goals in 353 appearances. He built up a key partnership with fellow attackers Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to help Liverpool win the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2019 as well as the 2020 Premier League.

The Premier League powerhouse Liverpool won’t see a change of ownership anytime soon. That is at least what club’s owner John Henry, the head of Fenway Sports Group, told Boston Sports Journal in a recent interview. 

Back in late 2022, Fenway Sports Group officially announced its intention to bring outside investment to the club. At the same time, several reports claimed that the group is also exploring a potential sale of their entire stake in Liverpool with the help of banks Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley.

Now, however, Henry says that there is no intention to sell the club, but still kept the door open for a potential investment.

“Will we be in England forever? No. Are we selling Liverpool? No,” Henry told Boston Sports Journal. “Are talking with investors about Liverpool? Yes. Will something happen there? I believe so, but it won’t be a sale. Have we sold anything in the past 20-plus years?”

Henry and Fenway Sports Group bought Liverpool in 2010 for a price of £300 million. Experts estimate that if sold today, the club would fetch a price north of £2.5 billion that Todd Boehly and his group of investors paid for Chelsea in the summer of 2022.

Liverpool is one of the most successful clubs in the history of English soccer, having won the domestic title 19 times alongside six UEFA Champions League trophies.

Darwin Nunez is an injury doubt ahead of the first leg of Liverpool’s Champions League Round of 16 clash with Real Madrid at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Nunez scored his first Premier League goal since the restart after the World Cup to help his team secure a valuable 2-0 away win at Newcastle United on Saturday. Nunez was replaced by Roberto Firminho at the 59-minute mark after he incurred a shoulder injury.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that Nunez is set to undergo tests on the problem area and that nothing is yet known about the extent of the injury. He did, however, reveal that Nunez is experiencing pain.

Although Nunez remains a doubt for the Real Madrid game, Klopp believes his team is on the path to turning their season around following the away win at Newcastle.
