Forward Roberto Firmino has confirmed that he will not be renewing his contract with Liverpool once its lapses in June. This means that the Brazilian will depart Liverpool after spending the last eight seasons with the club.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has been notified of Firmino’s decision to leave, however, he did not raise the subject during his press conference on Friday. Klopp did previously express his desire to keep Firmino at the club beyond June.

“He is really important, the link-up play, in tight areas and how we want to play,” Klopp said of Firmino. “Maybe he wouldn’t fit right with all the clubs in the world but to most definitely because having a player with his footballing intelligence, you can develop the game from here and score… He is so unselfish on top of that, and you don’t get that very often. He is a great player.”

During his time at Anfield, Firmino scored 107 goals in 353 appearances. He built up a key partnership with fellow attackers Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to help Liverpool win the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2019 as well as the 2020 Premier League.
