Premier League club Liverpool is close to signing Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo on a loan deal, according to reports. The Reds are in desperate need of reinforcements in the midfield as both Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara remain unavailable for selection through injury. Jordan Henderson also picked up a knock during his side’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United on Wednesday night, adding to the Reds’ injury woes.

Arthur is reportedly traveling to Liverpool on Thursday where he will undergo a medical before signing a contract with the club. Liverpool is under pressure to complete the deal with Juventus and conclude the player’s contract before the transfer deadline at midnight on Thursday night.

The 26-year-old center midfielder joined Juventus in 2020 for a transfer fee of approximately €70 million. During his time in Turin, Arthur made 63 appearances for Juventus, winning the 2020/21 Italian Cup as well as the 2020/21 Italian Super Cup in the process.

Prior to joining Juventus, Arthur spent two seasons at Barcelona, where he made 72 appearances and won the 2018/19 La Liga title as well as the 2018/19 Spanish Super Cup.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that the club is open to signing an additional midfielder before the transfer deadline should the opportunity arise.
