Liverpool have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich for the transfer of midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, sources confirmed in the early hours of Friday morning. The Premier League club has agreed a fee of €40 million ($43.4m), with the 21-year-old set to undergo a medical at Liverpool later in the day.

Gravenberch spent the last season with Bayern after signing from Ajax last summer. His impact at the club was limited, however, given his limited number of appearances for the club, the majority of which were from the bench. The Dutch national is expecting to receive more game time at Liverpool; a club with a mass exodus of talent this summer including Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson, and Fabinho.

This transfer comes after numerous failed attempts by Liverpool to sign a new midfielder. The club earlier lost out on Moisés Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, both of whom opted to join Chelsea.
