Brazilian star forward Neymar is looking to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer. According to reports from the French media, Neymar told PSG that he wants out and that he prefers a return to La Liga side Barcelona.

Neymar’s transfer request comes several weeks after French superstar Kylian Mbappe informed the club that he wouldn’t sign a new contract. Earlier this summer, Argentinean superstar Lionel Messi left Paris as a free agent and signed with MLS side Inter Miami.

PSG is reportedly willing to move on from Neymar and start fresh. However, it is unclear whether a deal with Barca can be struck, considering the Spanish club’s financial problems. Instead, they are focusing on talks with Premier League powerhouse Chelsea.

It is believed that Chelsea would be open to bringing in Neymar on an initial loan before making the move permanent. PSG, on the other hand, is insisting on a €60 million transfer fee. Multiple Saudi Arabia clubs have already informed Ligue 1 champions that they would pay this kind of fee, but it is unclear whether the player would be open to a move out of Europe.

Neymar joined Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in 2017 after the French club activated his €222 million release clause. Since then, the Brazilian has played 173 games with the club, scoring 118 goals and adding 77 assists. He won five Ligue 1 titles with PSG during that time.

Paris Saint-Germain’s big three of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Neymar could soon be broken up. According to French influential media outlet Le Parisien, Chelsea’s owner Todd Boehly met with PSG’s president Nasser al Khelaifi to open talks about Neymar’s move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

While the move is not imminent, it is believed that al Khelaifi left an impression that PSG is ready to do business and let the Brazilian star attacker leave. Chelsea would be expected to pay a fee of around €60 million to facilitate the transfer.

Neymar is currently enjoying another productive season with the reigning Ligue 1 champions. In 28 games played across all competitions, the 31-year-old player scored 17 goals and added 16 assists. Still, he has been an odd man out in the PSG’s locker room, being criticized by the fans for his attitude and clashing with the front office and coaching staff on a regular basis.

Reportedly, Neymar was offered to Chelsea this past summer, but Boehly decided not to pull the trigger on the move. His team’s struggles in Premier League since then and possible discount have now made him more eager to act.

PSG brought in Neymar in 2017 from Barcelona in a transfer worth a world-record €222 million. Since then, Neymar has scored an impressive 117 goals and added 76 assists while 12 trophies, including four domestic league titles.

Expect Major League Soccer to continue attracting big soccer names in the future. One of them could be Paris Saint-Germain’s star forward Neymar because the Brazilian recently stated he would love to play in the United States in the future.

During a recent appearance on Fenômenos Podcast, hosted by legendary Brazil striker Ronaldo, Neymar was asked whether he intends to play again in his native country before he retires. While the 30-year-old wasn’t overly optimistic about this scenario, saying he has “some doubts about that,” he did reveal one of his preferred future stops.

“I’d love to play in the U.S., actually,” Neymar told Ronaldo. “I’d love to play there at least for a season.”

Asked to elaborate on his comments, Neymar jokingly said he’s attracted by the shorter seasons in the MLS that would allow him to “play many more years.”

“Their season is shorter, so I’d get three months’ vacation,” he added.

You can check out the full episode of Fenômenos Podcast featuring Neymar below.

While there is certainly a possibility of Neymar coming to MLS, his arrival shouldn’t be expected anytime soon. He has a contract with PSG that runs until the summer of 2025 and makes him one of the best-paid athletes in the world, something teams in the United States couldn’t possibly match. Still, his comments, alongside Toronto FC’s recent capture of Napoli’s star Lorenzo Insigne, show that MLS is becoming a reputable league and that its popularity will only grow in the future.

Brazilian superstar Neymar is “unlikely” to return to Barcelona this summer. This was confirmed by Barca’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu in a recent chat with RAC 1.

Neymar left Barca in 2017 in order to join Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in a record transfer. However, the 28-year-old striker didn’t manage to get accustomed to life in France and reportedly wanted to get back to Camp Nou last summer.

Aware of Neymar’s wishes, Barca tried to make a move but couldn’t come to an agreement with PSG at the time. Now, the move is completely off according to Bartomeu due to the financial consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Such an operation is unlikely because the situation of all the clubs in Europe is very difficult,” said Bartomeu.

Despite facing a tough situation, Barca managed to get one big move finished in recent weeks. The Catalan club sold Brazilian midfielder Arthur to Juventus while acquiring Bosnian star playmaker Miralem Pjanic from Seria A powerhouse.

While many perceived this as a move that was motivated by the clubs’ wish to balance their books, Bartomeu claims that the transfers of Arthur and Pjanic had sports reasons behind them.

“Pjanic is a player who has wanted to sign for a long time, he was highly sought after, and there is a Barca player who wants Juve,” he added. “But it is an exceptional situation. It is not to balance balances because we would have sold other players for whom we had offers. Arthur is a player who is highly valued.”

Barcelona currently finds itself in a challenging situation, considering that the club is four points behind archrivals Real Madrid in the La Liga title race. Also, the overall mood around the club isn’t great, with their superstar Lionel Messi reportedly wanting to leave the club.

Despite being linked with a move to Barcelona for the better part of the summer, Brazilian star forward Neymar remained with Paris Saint-Germain. As it turns out, it wasn’t because Barca didn’t try hard enough.

Barcelona’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu recently discussed the club’s failed attempt to sign Neymar with BarcaTV, and said that they did “everything possible” to make a deal with PSG.

“We did everything possible to sign Neymar.” – said Bartomeu.

Bartomeu also denied reports that the club offered Ousmane Dembele or Ivan Rakitic as part of the deal, while also revealing Barca’s final offer for Neymar.

“We did talk about exchanges but all the names were given by PSG.” – he added. “Without an exchange of players, the offer was to loan Neymar for a year with a mandatory purchase option at the end of the season.”

With transfer window being closed now, it is clear that Neymar won’t be going anywhere, at least not until January. The Brazilian is reportedly unhappy in Paris and doesn’t want to play for PSG anymore, so it will be interesting to see how this situation plays out.

Neymar joined PSG in 2017 for a record-breaking sum of $247 million. Since then he played 37 games in Ligue 1 with the club, scoring 34 goals and dishing 20 assists.

It looks like Barcelona is making a serious effort to bring back Neymar to Camp Nou. According to Daily Record, La Liga giants already opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain and have made an intriguing offer for the Brazilian forward.

Barca is reportedly willing to send Philipe Coutinho and cash to PSG in order to land Neymar’s services. The Spanish club has also made French winger Ousmane Dembele available in these talks.

While it is unclear whether PSG would consider a player exchange offer, it is important to note that Ligue 1 powerhouse tried to sign both Coutinho and Dembele before they landed in Barcelona.

Neymar has been linked with a return to Spain for some time now, with Real Madrid emerging as a favorite for his signature. According to sources close to the 27-year-old, he would embrace the comeback to La Ligue and would prefer to end up in Madrid rather than Barcelona.

Neymar had its fair share of ups and downs since coming to Paris in a record-breaking $247 million transfer. Although he managed to score 34 goals and provide 20 assists in only 37 Ligue 1 games, he struggled to remain healthy and had both of his seasons with PSG cut short due to injuries. This is why the club might be open to selling him and invest that money in other players.
