Sheffield Wednesday’s striker Josh Windass will be out of contract this upcoming summer, and his next destination might be the United States.

According to The Athletic’s Tom Bogert, Windass is attracting interest from Major League Soccer, where at least two clubs are trying to secure his services. However, MLS teams are facing competition from several European sides, which already presented Windass with a “pre-contract” offer.

Bogert didn’t specify which clubs from MLS have an interest in Windass. 

Windass spent the majority of his career in the lower divisions of the English football league system, playing for Accrington Stanley, Wigan Athletic, and Wednesday. He also had a stint with Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.

Windass has been a member of Sheffield Wednesday for the past five seasons and helped the club secure a promotion to Championship from League One in 2022-23. He was named EFL League One Team of the Season, scoring 11 goals and adding seven assists during the regular season. Altogether, the 30-year-old has 36 goals and 17 assists with Wednesday.

There have been reports of Wednesday wanting to keep Windass in their ranks and are willing to offer him a new contract. However, considering they are currently in the relegation zone of the Championship, their chances of keeping one of their key players appear slim.

Free-agent Jesse Lingard is set to travel to the United States in order to speak with two MLS clubs who are interested in pursuing a potential transfer, numerous sources revealed. The midfielder’s contract with Manchester United expired at the start of July.

Houston Dynamo shared some big news on Wednesday that delighted their fans while also intriguing other MLS clubs. According to an announcement posted on their social media, Dynamo secured the services of Mexico international midfielder Hector Herrera.

Herrera, who currently plays with La Liga giants Atletico Madrid, will arrive at the MLS in the summer as a free agent. The 31-year-old inked a Designated Player deal that ties him to Houston through the 2024 season and comes with an option for one further year.

During a recent appearance on Fenômenos Podcast, hosted by legendary Brazil striker Ronaldo, Neymar was asked whether he intends to play again in his native country before he retires. While the 30-year-old wasn’t overly optimistic about this scenario, saying he has “some doubts about that,” he did reveal one of his preferred future stops. 

“I’d love to play in the U.S., actually,” Neymar told Ronaldo. “I’d love to play there at least for a season.”

Asked to elaborate on his comments, Neymar jokingly said he’s attracted by the shorter seasons in the MLS that would allow him to “play many more years.”

“Their season is shorter, so I’d get three months’ vacation,” he added.

LAFC are reportedly saying goodbye to their prolific forward Diego Rossi. According to multiple reports from Europe, Rossi is set to join Turkish side Fenerbahce after the two clubs came to a transfer agreement.
