Premier League side Arsenal will play the Major League Soccer’s best players at the upcoming 2023 MLS All-Star Game, according to The Athletic’s Pablo Iglesias Maurer and Paul Tenorio. The league is yet to officially confirm the news, but the deal is reportedly already set.

This will be the second time that Arsenal is featured at the MLS All-Star game. The London club’s first involvement was in 2016 when they got a 2-1 win thanks to the goals of Joel Campbell and Chuba Akpom. The lone goal for MLS All-Stars was scored by legendary striker Didier Drogba.

The 2023 MLS All-Star game is set to be played on July 19 in Washington D.C. at Audi Field, home of DC United. The MLS All-Star team is expected to be coached by DC’s head coach Wayne Rooney. The tradition in previous years was that the coach of the team that hosts the All-Star game sits on the bench of the All-Star team.

Having Arsenal as an All-Star game opponent means that the league is reverting to its old format in which MLS All-Star teams are facing the best European clubs. In the previous two years, MLS All-Stars played Liga MX All-Stars, winning both times.

The MLS All-Stars came face to face with the Liga MX All-Stars from Mexico on Wednesday night, winning the game during a nail-biting penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regular time.

Following the 90 minute match, the game went straight to a five-round penalty shootout, which the MLS All-Stars narrowly won 3-2.

The Liga MX All-Stars got an early lead in the 20th minute courtesy of Cruz Azul’s Jonathan Rodriguez, before the MLS All-Stars were able to equalize through Los Angeles FC’s Jesus Murillo in the 53rd minute. This was a standout moment for Murillo, who scored in front of his home fans in the Banc of California Stadium.

New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner delivered a strong performance between the sticks, saving penalties from Monterrey’s Rogelio Funes Mori and Club América’s Salvador Reyes while UNAM’s Erik Lira blasted his penalty wide.

This All-Star game is the latest installment in what has been a bitter soccer rivalry between the United States and Mexico as of late, with the United States defeating Mexico 1-0 in the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup on August 1.

Next year’s MLS All-Star game won’t be seeing MLS XI go against a European powerhouse. Instead, the game will host Mexico’s Liga MX All-Star team.

According to the official announcement, the 2020 MLS All-Star game will take place at LAFC’s Banc of California Stadium on July 29th.

“We are so pleased to bring the 2020 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target to Los Angeles, one of the great soccer markets in North America,” – said MLS commissioner Don Garber in a statement. “As we celebrate our 25th season, we wanted to deliver a unique and unprecedented format for our annual All-Star Game. Our first ever game between the best of MLS and LIGA MX’s top players is the perfect way to build on the growing relationship between the two top soccer leagues in the region.”

This move represents another step towards the collaboration of MLS and Liga MX. In recent years, two leagues have devised several joint competitions including Campeones Cup and Leagues Cup. The latter will get an expansion in 2020, with the number of teams being upped from eight to 16.

The MLS All-Star Game has exclusively featured the European club as an opponent to the MLS All-Star team since 2005. Some of the teams that took part included Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. The MLS XI lost the last four games, with their most recent win coming in 2015 against Tottenham.

Soccer fans in Orlando received another reason to get excited about the summer of 2019. Major League soccer and Orlando City SC both confirmed that Orlando will host 2019 MLS All-Star Game. The date of the game and the opponent is still left to be determined.

Orlando City SC has played an important role in the rise and advancement of Major League Soccer during the past few years, and we are pleased to bring the 2019 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target to this passionate soccer market,” – said MLS commissioner Don Garber in a statement.

2019 MLS All-Star Game will be held at Orlando City Stadium, which will be surely packed for this event, especially since the attendance for MLS games on the stadium was 99 percent of the 25,500 seat capacity.

We are extremely proud to have been selected to host the 2019 MLS All-Star Game and all of the events that make an All-Star week,” – said Orlando City SC chairman and majority owner Flavio Augusto da Silva. “This gives us another significant opportunity to welcome national and international soccer to Central Florida, and we couldn’t be prouder of our fans for embracing our club and creating the passionate atmosphere that is giving us the opportunity to bring this event to Orlando City Stadium.

Seria A giants Juventus didn’t have an easy task in this year’s MLS All-Star game as many thought they would. Juve couldn’t get the job done in 90 minutes, being tied 1-1 against MLS All-Stars, and needed penalty shootout (5-3) to claim the win.

Juventus got the lead in the 21st minute when young striker Andrea Favilli scored the opening goal of the game. This didn’t disturb the MLS All-Stars, who continued to follow Tata Martino’s game plan, and the award came five minutes later when Josef Martinez of Atlanta United scored on his home turf. Martinez ended up claiming the MVP of the match.

Both teams wanted to get a win in the regular time and had their fair share of chances, but neither Juventus nor MLS All-Stars managed to have the final word. The game then went to penalties, which saw players converting all shots in the first three rounds. After that New York Red Bulls’ forward Bradley Wright-Phillips hit the post, and gave Juve’s back Mattia De Sciglio an opportunity to seal the game for his team, which he eventually did.

Although MLS All-Stars failed to get a win, they still provided entertainment for 72,317 people who came to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Wednesday night, setting an MLS All-Star Game attendance record in the process.

Soccer fans in the United States who are planning to attend the 2018 MLS All-Star Game against Juventus were handed some disappointing news on Monday. It turns out that two of the biggest MLS stars, LA Galaxy’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic and NYCFC’s David Villa, won’t be able to participate in the game. Ibrahimovic decided to withdraw his name due to fatigue. Galaxy cited the fact that the 36-year-old played three matches in a row alongside the travel involved as the reason for the decision.

I am disappointed to miss the 2018 All-Star Game against Juventus, one of my former clubs,” – Ibrahimovic told the LA Galaxy official website. “I want to thank the fans for voting me to the team. My main focus is to score goals and help the LA Galaxy to the playoffs.”

David Villa, on the other hand, will miss the MLS All-Star Game since he won’t be able to recover from his injury in time for the game. New York Red Bulls’ midfielder Tyler Adams and Minnesota United’s forward Darwin Quintero will be in the squad for the match against Juventus instead.

According to MLS rules, both Ibrahimovic and Villa won’t be able to play in the next MLS game their clubs are scheduled to play.

2018 MLS All-Star Game will be held on August 1 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta with Atlanta United’s coach Tata Martino coaching the MLS All-Stars.
