Edelman, who retired after the 2020 NFL season, discussed the subject while joining Eli and Payton Manning on ESPN’s Monday Football Night “ManningCast.” The Super Bowl LIII MVP admitted that Brady approached him the very first day he signed with the Bucs and invited him to team up with him in Tampa Bay. Edelman, who was a Super Bowl MVP in 2018, has been dealing with this knee issue for the better part of the season. This prevented him from making his full contribution in 2020, playing 68 percent of the snaps in six games.

The 34-year-old Edelman eventually decided to do a “precautionary” knee procedure this week in hopes of getting back in full capacity for the second half of the season.

I think his day-to-day mentality really sets the tone for everybody.”

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Patriots and Edelman, who won Super Bowl LIII MVP honors, are currently in the process of finalizing two-year contract extension.

The extension is reportedly worth $18 million with $12 million guaranteed and $8 million signing bonus. Edelman was set to earn $2 million in 2019 under his current contract.

According to various reports, including those from ESPN‘s and NFL Network insiders, Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is facing a four games suspension from the league for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy.

Edelman appealed, hoping to overturn the suspension or at least reduce it. He also issued a statement via his Instagram profile on Friday.

“I am very sorry–I don’t know what happened,” – wrote Edelman. “I’ve taken many, many tests obviously over the course of my career, and nothing like this has ever happened. I apologize to the Kraft family, my coaches, teammates, and fans. As this matter is being appealed, I can’t say anymore but no matter what, I will be ready to play and pursue another championship with our team and for Patriots fans around the world.“
