Pats’ QB Tom Brady on WR Julian Edelman: “One of the Greats in The NFL”

Although he has a Super Bowl MVP award to his name, New England Patriots’ wideout Julian Edelman is widely considered not to be one of the best players at his position. Well, according to his teammate, Pats’ quarterback Tom Brady, that is a huge mistake.

Edelman is definitely not a flashy player who puts up big numbers, as he only had two seasons with 1,000+ receiving yards his 10 years in the league. Also, the most touchdowns he managed to pull in during the regular season is seven, and this only happened once.

Still, according to Brady, Edelman is a player who does much more than rack up yards and get touchdowns.

“Well, for me, he’s a spectacular player,” –said Brady during his appearance on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show”. “He’ll be in the Patriots Hall of Fame, and he could be a Pro Football Hall of Famer, too, at some point. What he’s done and what he’s accomplished in his career is nothing short of spectacular. He’s a great teammate. He does all the dirty work. Not just his only spectacular performances – his ability to run routes, catch the ball, run after the catch – but blocking, blocking for other guys. I think his day-to-day mentality really sets the tone for everybody.”

Brady explained that Edelman embraces all the tough jobs Pats put in front of him and that he does things not a lot of players are able to do. This is why he believes that the rest of the league doesn’t appreciate Edelman enough.

“That’s definitely a kind of a bogus vote, in my view, because he is a spectacular player – one of the greats in the NFL, no doubt.” – Brady added.

While Julian Edelman’s status among the NFL greats can surely be debated, there is no doubt that he played a great part in the Patriots’ recent success. This especially goes for his clutch playoff performances, in which he was a difference on the field and responded each time when his team needed him to deliver a big play like in the 2018 AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl LIII.

Edelman kicked off the 2019 season in a great fashion, having 38 receptions for 449 yards and two touchdowns in the first six weeks. This came although he struggled with injuries in the preseason and had a rib injury in Week 3.
