New England Patriots’ already anemic offense now has a new problem. The Pats’ reliable wideout Julian Edelman underwent a knee procedure on Thursday and will be out for “some period of time” according to sources.

Edelman, who was a Super Bowl MVP in 2018, has been dealing with this knee issue for the better part of the season. This prevented him from making his full contribution in 2020, playing 68 percent of the snaps in six games.

The 34-year-old Edelman eventually decided to do a “precautionary” knee procedure this week in hopes of getting back in full capacity for the second half of the season.

Despite the injury limitations, Edelman still managed to lead New England in receptions (21) and receiving yards (315) in 2020. However, he still hasn’t scored a touchdown this season.

With Julian Edelman out, the Patriots find themselves in a tough spot when it comes to the wide receiver position. The 2019’s first-round pick N’Keal Harry is also out due to concussion, leaving the team with veteran Damiere Byrd and unproven second-year players Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski at their disposal.
