United States men’s national team back Sergino Dest suffered a knee injury earlier in April, which will rule him out for an extended period of time. However, it appears this doesn’t affect his chances of joining Dutch side PSV Eindhoven on a permanent basis.

During a chat with reporters on Wednesday, PSV’s head coach Peter Bosz said that both he and the club want Dest, who is currently there on loan from Barcelona, to stay past this summer.

“I would very much like to have him there. It clicked in the way we played. It clicked as a person. It clicked with the player group, “said Bosz. “He also just played well actually all season. Then you want to keep him. The same goes for the club, actually. I think they would also like to keep him there.”

After an underwhelming loan stint with AC Milan last season, Barca sent Sergino Dest to PSV on a loan deal that had an option of making the deal permanent after the end of the 2023-24 campaign. Dest rediscovered his form in the Netherlands, making 37 appearances and scoring two goals alongside seven assists. His good performances helped PSV emerge at the top of the Eredivisie standings and made them favorites to win the league title.

U.S. international midfielder Gio Reyna is closing in on a move away from Borussia Dortmund. According to multiple reports, the Bundesliga side has already accepted several loan offers for Reyna, and it is now up to the player to choose his next destination.

French club Marseille and Premier League’s Nottingham Forest reportedly have an agreement in place with Borussia to take Reyna on loan until the end of the season with an option for a permanent transfer in the summer. Two more clubs, which remain unnamed, also reached a loan deal for Reyna.

It was previously reported that Reyna is actively looking to leave Borussia, being unhappy with the lack of playing time. The 21-year-old player played in only 10 matches in the Bundesliga in 2023-24, making one start. He also made three appearances in other competitions but failed to record a single goal or an assist.

Reyna made his professional debut with Borussia in 2020 and was billed as the club’s next big star. However, a series of injuries and a lack of consistency prevented him from achieving his full potential in Germany. AC Milan’s forward Christian Pulisic is the recipient of the U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year award for 2023. This is the fourth time Pulisic has received the same honor, tying the record held by USMNT legend Landon Donovan.

Pulisic, who scored six goals and dished three assists in seven matches with the USMNT this past year, received 53% of the votes from the voting panel. Pulisic’s teammate Yunus Musah finished second with 21.5% of the votes, while PSV Eindhoven’s striker Ricardo Pepi got 12.9% of the votes.

After his club career stalled with Chelsea at the end of the 2022-23 season, Pulisic made a summer move to Seria A, and it has been proved as a great decision. With Milan, Pulisic has rediscovered his form and has seven goals and six assists in 26 matches in all competitions. Pulisic also excelled with USMNT, helping his country secure the CONCACAF Nations League title and qualify for Copa América.

Inter Miami continues to add impactful players to their already stacked roster. The MLS side just confirmed the signing of U.S. international wingback Julian Gressel, who joins the club as a free agent.

Gressel signed a contract with Miami through 2026. The agreement also has a club option for the 2027 MLS season.

Gressel spent the 2023 season with Columbus Crew and Vancouver Whitecaps. He had a combined four goals and six assists in 29 regular-season matches while helping Columbus lift the MLS Cup.

“Julian is an established player with a winning track record in the league who has proven himself at every stage during his MLS career,” said Inter’s sporting director Chris Henderson in a statement. “We are pleased to add him to our squad as his versatility and quality delivery will bolster Inter Miami as we look to build on the successes of last season in 2024.”

Legendary United States men’s national team goalkeeper Tim Howard has been inducted into the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame on Sunday. Howard, who was in his first year of eligibility, received 46 positive votes from a 48-member selection committee.

Howard enters the Hall of Fame as a member of the 2024 class of inductees that also includes Olympic gold medalist and 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup winner Tisha Venturini-Hoch, USL Founder Francisco Marcos, and U.S. Paralympic team captain Josh McKinney.

Howard is widely considered the best American soccer goalkeeper in history. He started his career in MLS with MetroStars (modern-day New York Red Bulls) before heading to Europe for successful stints with Manchester United and Everton. Howard returned to MLS in 2016 and spent four seasons with Colorado Rapids.

Howard was handed his USMNT debut in 2002 and went on to make 121 appearances for the national side. He was part of the U.S. teams that competed at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups and won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2007 and 2017.

“You can’t think of these moments,” Howard said after learning about his induction into the Hall of Fame. “You get your head down, and you work hard, I’ve always said I’m just a kid from New Jersey who enjoyed playing soccer and learned how to compete and learned how to love the game.”

U.S. and Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams is set to have hamstring surgery that will sideline him between three and four months. The news was confirmed on Friday by Bournemouth’s manager Andoni Iraola.

Adams joined Bournemouth in August in a transfer worth around €26 million from Leeds United. However, the hamstring issue limited him to just one appearance in the EFL Cup.

“When we talked two weeks ago, one of the options, after Tyler’s feelings once he played the cup game, was that he had to solve this problem once and for all,” Iraola told reporters during a press conference. “He will have surgery and will be out at least three or four months.”

Adams already had one hamstring surgery in March, but it appears that the procedure was unsuccessful.

“From the previous surgery, he wasn’t feeling well, he was improving then having a setback then improving, something didn’t go very well, and he will have to have it again,” Iraola added.

Toronto FC’s veteran midfielder Michael Bradley is retiring from professional soccer. The former captain of the United States men’s national team announced his decision on Tuesday.

Bradley will play his last game this upcoming weekend when Toronto faces Orlando City in the 2023 MLS regular-season closer. The Canadian team won’t play in the postseason, currently sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. 

Bradley signed with Toronto FC in 2014 following stints with several European clubs, including Heerenveen, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and AS Roma. In 10 years with the club, he helped them to three MLS Cup Finals appearances and the MLS Cup title in 2017. He also received three MLS All-Star nods during that period.

“For the last 10 years I have spilled my blood, sweat and tears trying to help this club be the best it could be. There were some incredible days — moments that will stay with me for the rest of my life — and some bad ones too. But I never stopped giving everything I had,” said Bradley in a statement released by Toronto FC.

He made his senior team debut in 2006 and went on to make 151 appearances, which ranks him third-most on the all-time list behind Cobi Jones and Landon Donovan.
