The Kansas City Chiefs have finally got involved in the free agency. The reigning Super Bowl champions reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with wideout Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.

Brown is expected to earn $7 million in guaranteed salary in 2024 while being able to get up to $4 million in incentives.

Brown spent the last two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He had a lackluster campaign in 2023, which saw him catch 51 passes for 574 yards and four touchdowns. However, part of his struggles was the fact that the Cardinals played most of the season without starting quarterback Kyler Murray.

The Chiefs likely hope that having a star quarterback in Patrick Mahomes will help Brown unlock his full potential, which made him a first-round pick in 2019. Brown had his most productive season as a pro in 2021 with the Baltimore Ravens, when he made 91 receptions for 1,008 yards and six TDs.

Kansas City heavily leaned on tight end Travis Kelce and rookie wideout Rashee Rice as their pass-catching options last season. The rest of their receiver corps was underwhelming, which is why the Chiefs made it a priority to upgrade at wide receiver this offseason. Signing Brown isn’t likely the end of it, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Chiefs address the position in the 2024 NFL Draft as well.

Veteran All-Pro left tackle Tyron Smith is “unlikely” to return to the Dallas Cowboys for 2024, according to a recent report by NFL Networks’ Ian Rapoport.

Smith is set to become a free agent once the new league year starts on March 13. He spent all of his 13 years as a pro with the Cowboys, being the franchise’s longest-tenured player in 2023.

Since being selected as the ninth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, Smith established himself as one of the premier left tackles in the league. He started 161 games and was selected to eight Pro Bowls while also earning two First-team All-Pro selections and being named into the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team.

Smith dealt with various injuries in recent seasons, being limited to just two games in 2020 and four games in 2022. However, he bounced back last season, earning Second-team All-Pro after allowing just one sack.

Recent reports indicated that the Cowboys wanted to keep Smith around, while the player also expressed interest in staying put. However, the two sides couldn’t agree on the financial terms of a new deal, which will result in Smith testing free agency. He is expected to attract significant interest from teams in the market for a starting left tackle.

Sources confirmed on Saturday that the Miami Dolphins have reached an agreement to sign wide receiver Chosen Robbie Anderson. The 29-year-old player was released by the Arizona Cardinals on March 8 after joining the team last season in a midseason trade.

Before being offloaded by the Cardinals, Anderson had seven catches for 76 yards in 10 games last season. Prior to his trade to the Cardinals, Anderson played six games for the Carolina Panthers, making 13 catches for 206 yards and a touchdown.

Anderson is the second receiver that the Dolphins have acquired this season; the first being former New York Jets receiver Braxton Berrios. He will have to compete for a place in the roster with Berrios as well as River Cracraft, Cedrick Wilson, and 2022 fourth-round pick Erik Ezukanma during the team’s upcoming training camp.

Currently, the Dolphins’ receiving corps is led by Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, who together set an NFL record in 2022 for most receiving yards by a pair of teammates with 3,066 yards.

The Carolina Panthers have added depth to their wideout corps over the weekend by signing veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen. The team confirmed the news on social media but didn’t disclose the financial terms of the agreement.

Sources close to the organization say that Thielen’s deal is worth $25 million and comes with $14 million in guarantees. It also comes with two voidable years for salary cap purposes.

Thielen comes to Carolina after spending the previous 10 years with the Minnesota Vikings. The 32-year-old has 534 career catches for 6,682 yards and two touchdowns. He has two Pro Bowl selections and one Second-Team All-Pro nod since entering the league.

The Panthers most likely hope that Thielen will replace the production they lost when they traded DJ Moore earlier this month. Moore, who was the team’s best wideout in recent years, went to the Chicago Bears as part of the trade that landed Carolina the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

According to reports, the Panthers are not done with adding offensive weapons in the free agency. They are expected to make a run at DJ Chark, who is considered one of the best free-agent wideouts available. Chark had 30 catches for 502 yards and three TDs last season with the Detroit Lions.

Quarterback Nick Foles signed a contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday—a move that will once again see him work with coach Frank Reich. While the team refused to disclose the terms of the contract, sources revealed that Foles had signed a two-year deal with the team.

Foles previously worked under Reick in 2017, when Reich served as the offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles team that went on to win that season’s Super Bowl championship.

According to reports, the Eagles were eager to re-sign Foles before he concluded his deal with the Colts. After considering Foles, the Eagles opted to remain with their current quarterback lineup, particularly as talk of the potential departure of Gardner Minshew from the team was dismissed.

In a move corresponding to Foles’ arrival, the Colts decided to release quarterback James Morgan from his contract.

Set to play backup to starting quarterback James Morgan, Foles faces competition from 2021 sixth-round draft pick Sam Ehlinger and undrafted free agent Jack Coan.

Prior to signing with the Colts, Foles was recently made a free agent after being released by the Chicago Bears on May 1. This move was expected after the Bears signed free agent quarterback Trevor Siemian.

Despite having strong interest from multiple teams in free agency, veteran wideout T.Y. Hilton decided to stick with the only NFL organization he knows.

According to NFL’s Ian Rapoport, Hilton will continue playing in Indianapolis Colts’ jersey after he agreed to a one-year deal with the organization on Wednesday. His new deal is reportedly worth $10 million and comes with $8 million in guarantees.

Hilton later confirmed the deal on his social media, saying that “it’s only right I finish what I started.”

After struggling with production and injuries in 2019, Hilton managed to put together a respectable campaign last season. He played 15 games while catching 56 passes for 762 yards and five touchdowns.

The Colts were ready to let T.Y. Hilton enter the free-agent market after 2020, but it made sense for the organization to try and bring him back. He is a proven playmaker, and Indianapolis needs those, especially since they will have a new quarterback under center in 2021.

Hilton spent his entire pro career in Indianapolis, during which he totaled 608 receptions for 9,360 yards and 50 touchdowns. He also has four Pro Bowl nods to his name.

Veteran pass rusher Aldon Smith won’t return to the Dallas Cowboys for the 2021 NFL season after the organization opted against offering him a new deal. The Cowboys reportedly informed Smith about their decision earlier this week.

The news comes as a surprise, especially since the Cowboys rejected several trade proposals for Smith ahead of the last season’s deadline. Also, the 31-year-old Smith was among the team’s most productive players on defense in 2020, starting all 16 games and totaling 48 tackles, 5.0 sacks, 14 QB hits, and a defensive touchdown.

Reportedly, Dallas changed their mind about Smith after picking up veteran Tarell Basham in the free agency. The organization is also looking to give a bigger role to 2015’s second-round pick Randy Gregory, which would be harder to do if Smith remained on the team.

Aldon Smith, who was the No.7 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, previously played with San Francisco 49ers and the Raiders. After serving several suspensions early in his career, Smith was suspended indefinitely by the NFL in 2015 and missed four seasons before returning last year.

Smith has 228 career tackles to go with 52.5 sacks, 103 QB hits, and six forced fumbles. He has one Pro Bowl nod and a First-Team All-Pro selection, both from 2012.

Future Hall of Fame corner Patrick Peterson is leaving the Arizona Cardinals after spending 10 years with the organization. According to multiple reports, Peterson agreed to join the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year deal earlier this week.

Peterson, who became a free agent for the first time in his career, will reportedly earn $10 million in 2021.

The Cardinals publicly said earlier this year that they intended to re-sign Peterson, but it is unclear whether they made a real push to make it happen. The sides haven’t been on the best terms in recent years, with the 30-year-old veteran even asking for a trade early in the 2018 season.

At the time, Peterson was reportedly unhappy with the direction in which the franchise is going and had issues with the team’s struggles on the field. While the three-time All-Pro later withdrew his request, the relationship between him and the Cardinals front office remained fractured.

With the Vikings, Peterson will have a chance to make a fresh start and play a central role in the team’s secondary. He will also bring veteran leadership to an inexperienced corner corps that features second-year players Jeff Gladney and Cameron Dantzler.

Peterson earned eight Pro Bowl nods during his time in Arizona and was selected into the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. He has 499 career tackles to go with 91 pass deflections, 28 interceptions, and five defensive touchdowns.

In an unexpected turn of events, wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster will continue playing football in Pittsburgh. The 24-year-old player confirmed the news on social media on Friday.

The Steelers allowed Smith-Schuster to hit the free agency this offseason, and reports from within the organization indicated that they already made peace with his exit. But the player’s willingness to take less money to stay ended up changing the team’s course.

Smith-Schuster had an underwhelming 2020 campaign, managing 97 catches for 831 yards and nine touchdowns as the Steelers No. 1 receiver. Despite this, he received a lot of interest in free agency and reportedly had strong offers from the Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, and Philadelphia Eagles.

The Ravens, who are the Steelers’ divisional rivals, offered Smith-Schuster contract that could earn him $13 million ($9 million guaranteed and $4 million in incentives) in 2021, while the Chiefs were willing to go up to $8 million in guarantees and add $3 million in incentives for one year. The Eagles, on the other hand, offered a multi-year agreement.

Pittsburgh ended up offering the least money compared to all other teams, putting $7.5 million on the table at first and then increasing the bid to $8 million. This was enough, however, as Smith-Schuster didn’t mind taking several million less to make another run with Ben Roethlisberger.

Smith-Schuster caught 308 passes for 3,726 yards and 27 touchdowns since becoming the Steelers’ second-round pick in 2017.

Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons extended his loyalty to the Denver Broncos by agreeing to a new long-term contract with the franchise.

The Broncos still haven’t made the official announcement, but Simmons already confirmed the news on social media.

According to multiple reports, Simmons inked a four-year deal that keeps him around through 2024. The overall value of the agreement is $61 million, meaning that the 27-year-old player is now the NFL’s highest-paid safety with an average yearly salary of $15.25 million. The previous record was held by the Arizona Cardinals’ Budda Baker, who earns $14.75 million a year.

The deal with Simmons was a top priority for Denver in the offseason, and getting it down will now allow the franchise to make other moves with less pressure on its shoulders. They have not only kept one of their leaders and best performers on the field, but also a player who is beloved by the community and fanbase.

For Simmons, getting a new deal means he will avoid playing on the franchise tag for the second year in a row. He gets long-term security while getting to stay in a familiar system and around the organization he feels comfortable with.

Justin Simmons entered the league as Denver’s third-round pick in 2016. He played 74 games in a Broncos’ jersey, totaling 385 tackles, 37 pass deflections, and 16 interceptions. Simmons earned All-Pro honors in 2019 and was a Pro Bowler in 2020.
