The Jacksonville Jaguars managed to hammer out a long-term deal with their Pro Bowl linebacker Josh Allen. The Jags announced on Wednesday that Allen inked a new five-year contract with the franchise.

Allen played out his rookie contract in 2023, which forced the Jaguars to use a $24 million franchise tag in March in order to avoid losing him in free agency. The two sides continued negotiations in the following weeks and have now come to an agreement that keeps Allen in Jacksonville for the foreseeable future. 

The Jags didn’t disclose the financial terms of the deal, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports it is a five-year, $150 million pact that comes with $88 million in guaranteed money. It makes Allen just the third defensive player in the NFL with an annual salary of $30 million or more.

Since entering the league in 2019 as a seventh overall pick out of Kentucky, Josh Allen established himself as one of the best, if not the best, defensive players for the Jags. This was particularly obvious last season when Allen broke the Jaguars’ franchise record with 17.5 sacks and earned his second Pro Bowl appearance.

“I’m extremely blessed and honored to get this paycheck, or to get these checks, but I still set goals for myself. Defensive Player of the Year is my next goal. Winning a Super Bowl, being an MVP,” Allen said after his new deal was officially confirmed.

Aside from a new head coach, the New England Patriots will also have a new quarterback in 2024. The Patriots confirmed on Sunday that they are trading last year’s starter, Mac Jones, to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

According to reports, the Patriots discussed Jones trade with four teams in recent days, but the Jags were the only ones to make a firm offer. New England will receive a sixth-rounder from Jacksonville as part of the deal.

Mac Jones was drafted 15th overall by the Pats in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Alabama and was named the starter in his rookie year. Jones led New England to a 10-7 record in his rookie year while making the Pro Bowl as an alternate.

However, Jones failed to replicate his rookie campaign in the following two seasons. He particularly struggled in 2023, being benched multiple times after bad performances.

Jones will now have an opportunity to resurrect his career as a backup to Trevor Lawrence with the Jags organization. He also gets to play for his hometown team.

The Patriots, on the other hand, will likely start fresh at the QB position. They have the second-overall pick in the upcoming draft and are projected to take either LSU’s Jayden Daniels or North Carolina’s Drake Maye.

The Jacksonville Jaguars confirmed that their starting quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, will be out for the upcoming game against the Carolina Panthers. The Jags will turn to backup C.J. Beathard to start under center on Sunday.

This will be the first time that Lawrence has missed a game since entering the league as a No. 1 overall pick in 2021. His streak of 49 consecutive starts was the second longest in the league behind Josh Allen’s 94 games.

Lawrence is dealing with a shoulder injury he sustained in a 30-12 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 16. The 24-year-old player didn’t practice throughout the week but is expected to recover in time for the season finale against the Tennessee Titans.

Beathard played in six games this season, completing 23 out of 29 pass attempts and throwing for 171 yards and a touchdown. The veteran has a 2-10 record as a starter, with all of his starts coming during his time with the San Francisco 49ers between 2017 and 2020.

After initially trying to get back up, the quarterback fell back to his knees.

Backup quarterback C.J. The knee injury that the Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered in the final minutes of a 37-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday doesn’t seem to be a serious one. The player himself confirmed this in a chat with reporters after the game, saying that he “feels pretty good”.

Lawrence got hurt after being tackled by Colts defensive end Samson Ebukam during a scramble play. The 24-year-old player was seen holding his knee before making his way to the sidelines. He didn’t return for the Jags’ final possession.

Lawrence said he only bruised his knee, although he is expected to undergo further testing just in case. However, he couldn’t confirm that he would be ready to go for the Thursday Night Football game against the New Orleans Saints.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have once again refused to give up. After facing a 27-0 deficit in the wild-card game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night, the Jags rallied to an improbable comeback and a 30-31 win that will see them go through to the divisional round.

The game started ugly for the Jaguars as their quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw an interception on the second play of the game. The Chargers used a great field position to score a touchdown, with running back Austin Ekeler punching the ball after a 13-yard run.

Lawrence continued to gift the Chargers the ball, throwing three more picks midway through the second quarter. The LA team converted two of them to points, which helped them to build a 27-0 lead. The Jags managed to score what seemed a futile touchdown at the time to end the half. But it wasn’t.

The second half saw a different Jacksonville team, one that takes care of the ball and plays hard on the defense. Lawrence toned down his recklessness and started carving the Chargers’ defense with timely passes. The running game also picked up steam, and the Chargers quickly found themselves with their back against the wall.

After scoring a touchdown with a successful two-point conversion midway through the fourth quarter, which cut the deficit to 30-28, Jacksonville managed to stop Justin Herbert and co. to give themselves a chance to take it all. What followed was a 10-play, 68-yard game-winning drive that saw Riley Patterson drill a 36-yard field goal as the clock ran out.

After overcoming the third-biggest deficit in NFL Playoffs history, the Jaguars are now set to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round. They will be heavy underdogs, but we definitely wouldn’t write them off after what we just saw.

Only recently did Walker enter the top 10 conversations, intriguing teams with his athleticism and potential upside. However, not many people were exceptionally high on him entering the draft, and even fewer saw him worthy of a No. 1 selection.

Earlier in the year, there were even questions about whether Walker will be selected in the first round at all. He only managed 9.5 career sacks in his entire college career and didn’t have eye-catching numbers across the board. However, his performance at the NFL combine and physical tools caused his draft stock to rise in recent weeks and got him to the top of the Jags’ draft board.

It’s safe to say that the Jags took Walker not for the player he is now but for the player they believe he can be. Only the time will tell if they got it right.

Hutchinson was long considered the best player in this year’s draft and as sure pick as it gets. The Jacksonville Jaguars have hired Doug Pederson as their new head coach. The franchise confirmed the news via social media on Friday.

Pederson, who has a Super Bowl win on his resume as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, was the first candidate the Jags interviewed for the position after firing Urban Meyer midway through the 2021 NFL season. The franchise did their due diligence and looked into several more candidates, including Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich and ex-Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell, but circled back to Pederson.

“Doug Pederson four years ago won a Super Bowl as head coach of a franchise in pursuit of its first world championship,” Jaguars owner Shad Khan said in a team-released statement. “I hope Doug can replicate that magic here in Jacksonville, but what is certain is his proven leadership and experience as a winning head coach in the National Football League. It’s exactly what our players deserve. Nothing less.”

Pederson, who previously worked as an offensive coordinator under Andy Reid, spent five years as Philly’s head coach. He compiled a 42–37–1 head-coaching record while leading the franchise to three postseason trips. The one in 2017 culminated with a Super Bowl win over the heavily-favored New England Patriots. The Eagles fired the 54-year-old after going 4-11-1 in 2020.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have hired Doug Pederson as their new head coach. The franchise confirmed the news via social media on Friday.

Pederson, who has a Super Bowl win on his resume as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, was the first candidate the Jags interviewed for the position after firing Urban Meyer midway through the 2021 NFL season. The franchise did their due diligence and looked into several more candidates, including Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich and ex-Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell, but circled back to Pederson.

“Doug Pederson four years ago won a Super Bowl as head coach of a franchise in pursuit of its first world championship,” Jaguars owner Shad Khan said in a team-released statement. “I hope Doug can replicate that magic here in Jacksonville, but what is certain is his proven leadership and experience as a winning head coach in the National Football League. It’s exactly what our players deserve. Nothing less.”

Pederson, who previously worked as an offensive coordinator under Andy Reid, spent five years as Philly’s head coach. He compiled a 42–37–1 head-coaching record while leading the franchise to three postseason trips. The one in 2017 culminated with a Super Bowl win over the heavily-favored New England Patriots. The Eagles fired the 54-year-old after going 4-11-1 in 2020.

In Jacksonville, Pederson faces the challenging task of getting the Jags back on the winning path. Since their trip to AFC Championship in 2017, the Jaguars haven’t had a winning season and have a combined record of 15-50.
