HBO’s iconic series Hard Knocks will knock on the door of the Detroit Lions this summer. The news that the Lions will be featured in the new season of the series was confirmed by the NFL Films and HBO on Monday.

Hard Knocks follows one NFL team through its training camp. The series covers both on-the-field and game-related stuff as well as the personal lives of the coaches and players. The most recent team featured on the program in its standard format was the Dallas Cowboys.

In 2021, HBO and NFL films expanded the format to the regular season when the cameras were following the Indianapolis Colts. However, it is unclear whether the in-season version will make its return this year.

For the Detroit Lions, this will be the first time they are featured on Hard Knocks. It was an easy decision for the league, considering that the Lions’ situation has all the makings of great television. They are not only rebuilding but also have an outspoken head coach in Dan Campbell, who is known for his colorful language and entertaining press conferences.

“We are excited about the opportunity to showcase the City of Detroit and the amazing culture we are building at the Lions,” said Lions president and CEO Rod Wood in a team statement. “HBO Sports and NFL Films are the best of the best, and we know they will be excellent partners in sharing our story with football fans around the world.”

Most NFL fans have always wondered how HBO’s iconic show Hard Knocks would look like if it took place in-season instead of covering the arguably less eventful preseason. Well, we’re about to find out.

HBO and NFL Films just announced that they would team up for the first-ever in-season Hard Knocks this year. The series will center on the Indianapolis Colts and is set to cover the team during the second part of the 2021 season.

The show will premiere on November 17th, with new episodes arriving each Wednesday until the Colts wrap up their campaign. This means that Hard Knocks could even contain some playoff action n case Indianapolis makes the postseason.

“We could not be more thrilled to bring Hard Knocks and the remarkable behind-the-scenes access it provides for the entirety of an NFL season,” said NFL Films senior executive Ross Ketover. “Thanks to HBO, along with the incredible cooperation from the Colts, we are able to deliver a groundbreaking new edition of the series.”

This will be the first time the Indianapolis Colts are the subject of Hard Knocks, which aired its 16th season earlier this summer.

The show premiered in 2001, following the Baltimore Ravens throughout their training camp and preseason and giving the fans unprecedented insight into how NFL franchises operate. The formula proved to be successful, and the series has gained a cult following since then.

The Dallas Cowboys were the most recent team to be featured on Hard Knocks.

The acclaimed HBO’s documentary series Hard Knocks is heading to Los Angeles this year. The new season of the series will be centered on Rams and Chargers and is set to give the NFL fans a unique look inside the teams’ training camps as they jointly move to new SoFi Stadium.

NFL Films, the company behind Hard Knocks, announced the new episodes of the series are set to debut on HBO on August 21st. The company also announced a multi-year extension with HBO to produce Hard Knocks in the future.

This will be the second time the Rams will be featured on Hard Knocks. Their first appearance came in 2016 and coincided with the team’s move to LA after 21 years in St. Louis.

The Rams are facing significant changes this year as well that include rebranding their logo and jerseys as well as moving to a new stadium.

“We are looking forward to having Hard Knocks in our camp this year,” said Rams’ head coach Sean McVay. “Hard Knocks always offers a rare opportunity for our fans to see our players’ hard work to prepare for the season, as well as gives them a peek behind the curtain to observe these guys off the field, too. This year will be special because the show will also get an unprecedented look at SoFi Stadium, Stan Kroenke’s vision for professional football in L.A.”

On the other hand, Chargers, who will be sharing SoFi Stadium with the Rams, promises to be an interesting watch due to their roster changes.  The team will enter 2020 without quarterback Phillip Rivers, who departed the franchise during the offseason after 16 seasons, with veteran Tyrod Taylor and rookie Justin Herbert aiming to earn the starting spot.

“Broadcasting your internal business all over the world isn’t something you regularly want to do, but in a year with as many challenges as this one has had, I’m glad we can be part of bringing football back to the fans this summer,” said Chargers’ head coach Anthony Lynn.

After saying goodbye to Antonio Brown, Oakland Raiders found themselves needing another wide receiver. Instead of exploring trade options, they decided to bring back a familiar face in Keelan Doss.

Doss, who spent the training camp with Raiders before being cut, will sign for a rookie minimum of $495,000 and $300,000 signing bonus.

Doss had an eventful day on Monday, as he was first offered rookie minimum from Jacksonville Jaguars to remain on their practice squad. Oakland decided to step up their offer after that, and the player returned to silver and black.

Keelan Doss played out his college career in UC Davis, where he set the records for touchdowns with 29 and all-purpose yards with 4,218. Although it was projected that he would be drafted in the third or fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, he ended up going undrafted. Raiders decided to sign him for training camp as a free agent.

The interesting thing about Doss is that he emerged as a star of HBO’s series “Hard Knocks” which followed Oakland’s training camp this year. He made four preseason game appearances with the team, catching 17 passes for 162 yards and one TD. It was believed Doss might earn the spot on the team after this, but Raiders decided to part ways with him during their 53-man roster cuts. He ended up signing with Jags’ practice squad shortly after.
