HBO’s iconic series Hard Knocks will knock on the door of the Detroit Lions this summer. The news that the Lions will be featured in the new season of the series was confirmed by the NFL Films and HBO on Monday.

Hard Knocks follows one NFL team through its training camp. The series covers both on-the-field and game-related stuff as well as the personal lives of the coaches and players. The most recent team featured on the program in its standard format was the Dallas Cowboys.

In 2021, HBO and NFL films expanded the format to the regular season when the cameras were following the Indianapolis Colts. However, it is unclear whether the in-season version will make its return this year.

For the Detroit Lions, this will be the first time they are featured on Hard Knocks. It was an easy decision for the league, considering that the Lions’ situation has all the makings of great television. They are not only rebuilding but also have an outspoken head coach in Dan Campbell, who is known for his colorful language and entertaining press conferences.

“We are excited about the opportunity to showcase the City of Detroit and the amazing culture we are building at the Lions,” said Lions president and CEO Rod Wood in a team statement. “HBO Sports and NFL Films are the best of the best, and we know they will be excellent partners in sharing our story with football fans around the world.”
