United States men’s national team right back DeAndre Yedlin has a new team. FC Cincinnati confirmed on Monday that they have acquired Yedlin in a transfer from Inter Miami.

The two teams didn’t disclose details of the deal. However, The Athletic’s Tom Bogert reports that Miami received $172,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) for Yedlin.

Yedlin leaving doesn’t come as a surprise, considering he was one of the players Inter made available last month in an attempt to shed salary and acquire allocation money. The MLS side also moved on from Brazilian midfielder Gregore, while the likes of Jean Mota, Robert Taylor, and Serhiy Kryvtsov remain available.

DeAndre Yedlin joined Inter Miami ahead of the 2022 MLS season, signing a four-year contract with an option for another year. Yedlin ended up playing a total of 82 games for Miami, dishing eight assists and helping the club win the Leagues Cup in 2023.

Yedlin made his professional debut in 2013 with the Seattle Sounders. He then embarked on a successful stint in Europe that saw him suit up for Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and Galatasaray, among other clubs.

Yedlin collected 81 call-ups for USMNT and is the only U.S. player to play in both the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2022 FIFA World Cup.

FC Cincinnati and United States international forward Brandon Vazquez is set to join Liga MX side Monterrey. According to a report from ESPN, Vazquez agreed to a four-year contract with the Mexican club.

Cincinnati previously agreed to a $7.5 million transfer fee with Monterrey for Vazquez. According to The Enquirer, the agreement also includes a sale-on percentage and $1 million in performance-based triggers.

Vazquez had a breakthrough season in 2022 when he scored 18 goals and added eight assists en route to MLS All-Star selection. His 2023 campaign was underwhelming in comparison, as he only had eight goals and four assists, but that didn’t prevent a number of clubs from entering a bidding war in an attempt to lure him out of Cincinnati.

Initially, Vazquez wanted to go to Europe, where clubs like Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach had an interest in his services. However, Monterrey ended up putting the best offer on the table to edge out the competition.

Vazquez made his debut with the United States men’s national team in 2023. He was also eligible to represent Mexico on international level. In eight games played with USMNT so far, Vazquez scored four goals, including finding the net in his debut with the senior team in a 1-2 friendly loss to Serbia.

The Major League Soccer unveiled FC Cincinnati’s center-back Matt Miazga as the recipient of the 2023 MLS Defender of the Year Award on Monday.

Miazga received 25.45% of the total vote from the panel consisting of players, club officials, and media members. St. Louis City SC’s center-back Tim Parker came in second with 10.46% of the votes.

Miazga was one of the key players for the Cincinnati team that finished at the top of the Eastern Conference and won the Supporters’ Shield trophy. With Miazga manning its defense, the MLS side conceded only 39 goals, being tied for fourth-fewest in the league, while keeping their opponents without scoring in 12 games. The 28-year-old also managed to add one assist.

Unfortunately for FC Cincinnati, Miazga won’t be able to help them in their MLS Cup Conference semifinal clash against Philadelphia Union. He has to serve a one-game suspension due to accumulated bookings.

Matt Miazga started his career with the New York Red Bulls in 2013 and played three seasons with the club before securing a transfer to Premier League powerhouse Chelsea. After making just two appearances with Chelsea in 2015–16, Miazga embarked on a series of loan moves that saw him play for five different clubs. After his contract with Chelsea expired in the summer of 2022, he signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Cincinnati.

FC Cincinnati passed on the opportunity to cash in on their in-demand forward Brandon Vazquez. The MLS side reportedly rejected an offer in the range of $7 million for Vazquez from Liga MX’s Chivas.

Chivas and Cincinnati have been negotiating for the past month or so, but the talks never progressed to a point where a deal would be likely. Eventually, Cincinnati’s ownership stepped in and made it clear they didn’t want to see Vazquez leave.

FC Cincinnati general manager Chris Albright confirmed the Chivas’ interest in a chat for MLSsoccer.com but didn’t go into details of the negotiations.

“We appreciate Chivas’ offer and their professionalism in the process,” said Albright. “However, at this point, our ownership is focused on winning games and building a sustainably successful organization, and we see Brandon being a big part of that.”

Brandon Vazquez has been with FC Cincinnati since 2020 but only came to prominence this past season. He delivered a breakthrough campaign that saw him start 32 games and score 18 goals with eight assists. The 24-year-old player also added one goal in the postseason.

After missing out on Vazquez, Chivas is turning its focus to other targets. They recently showed interest in Charlotte FC’s striker Daniel Ríos, who is expected to be a cheaper and more viable option.

Jaap Stam’s stint at the helm of FC Cincinnati has come to an unceremonious end. Stam was fired by the MLS side on Monday after leading the team to just one win in 16 games.

According to the team’s announcement, which came after a 4-2 loss to Atlanta United, Tyrone Marshall will serve as the team’s head coach on an interim basis. Mashall previously coached Cincinnati’s U-19 team.

Stam took over FC Cincinnati in the summer of 2020 and started his spell with the team by winning the debut clash against the Atlanta United. However, it turned out this was just one of the eight wins the Dutchman will claim while in charge.

Cincinnati finished the 2020 MLS season dead-last in the Eastern Conference with four wins and 16 points to show for it in 23 games. While the franchise hoped Stam would turn things around this season, the same scenario followed. The team struggled throughout the campaign and just cleared the four-win mark posted last year, although they’re now 13th in the conference standings.

Jaap Stam, regarded as one of the best defenders of his generation, started his coaching career with English Championship side Reading in 2016. He led the club to playoffs in his first season but lost his job after a disastrous sophomore campaign that saw the team winning just once in 18 matches. Stam also had short and mostly unsuccessful stints with PEC Zwolle and Feyenoord before coming to MLS.

FC Cincinnati is reportedly interested in adding Newcastle United midfielder Kyle Scott to their roster ahead of the 2021 MLS season. The club will bring in Scott on trial and will make their final decision after the youngster spends several weeks with them.

Scott arrived to the United States on Friday and will spend seven days in quarantine before joining his potential teammates. He is expected to take part in Cincinnati’s training camp and should also get a look at the upcoming friendlies.

According to sources, Newcastle previously informed Scott that they wouldn’t extend his contract, which influenced the agreement with the MLS squad. However, the Premier League club will demand a sell-on percentage clause if they are to allow the 23-year-old player to depart earlier.

FC Cincinnati head coach Jaap Stam is believed to be Scott’s admirer and even tried to acquire him while he was the manager of Reading. The player is also keen to collaborate with Stam, viewing the opportunity as a way to put his career back on track.

Kyle Scott spent his youth career with Chelsea, joining the club’s academy in 2007. He made one appearance during his time there before signing with Newcastle. Scott also had a short stint with Dutch side Telstar.

On the international level, Scott played for youth teams of England, Ireland, and the United States.

FC Cincinnati’s chances of making a meaningful result at MLS is Back Tournament just became slimmer. According to the team’s head coach Jaap Stam, Cincinnati’s big offseason acquisition Jurgen Locadia is dealing with an injury and is set to miss “a couple of weeks.”

Stam told reporters that Locadia, who scored for Cincinnati in his MLS debut back in March, has issues with his thigh.

“Jurgen has a slight problem with his thigh, we’re looking at him day to day and what he can do,” said Stam.

The 26-year-old striker will now probably be unavailable for the first stage of MLS is Back Tournament, although Stam remains optimistic that things could change in the near future.

“It’s probably a couple weeks that he’s going to be out,” he added. “But you never know with injuries like that, it depends on how the players is feeling himself as well, so we’ll look at it day to day and how he feels and adjust the sessions as well.”

MLS side FC Cincinnati ended its search for a new head coach. The club announced on Thursday that they had hired legendary Dutch center back Jaap Stam to take over the team on a permanent basis.

Cincinnati was in a search for a new manager since early February when Ron Jans resigned. After considering a number of candidates, the club decided to give confidence to Stam, considering that he previously collaborated with the team’s general manager Gerard Nijkamp at PEC Zwolle.

“We are very happy and pleased to have Jaap Stam become FC Cincinnati’s new head coach,” said Nijkamp in a statement. “He has an extensive background in being part of some of the most successful clubs in the world as a player and has also proven that he can guide teams through transitionary periods as a head coach.”

Stam comes to MLS after an unsuccessful stint with Feyenoord in 2019. He spent only 18 games at the helm of Eredivisie side, winning seven games before resigning from the post. The 47-year-old previously also had stints with Ajax’s youth team, Reading and Zwolle.

Jaap Stam’s managerial career hasn’t been successful as his playing career so far. During his time as a pro, Stam played for some of Europe’s best clubs like Manchester United, Lazio, and AC Milan. His biggest success came with United, as he helped the team win three consecutive Premier League titles and UEFA Champions League.

Stam was also a key part of the Netherlands’ national team, making 67 appearances between 1996 and 2004 while winning the Dutch Footballer of the Year award in 1997.

FC Cincinnati decided to fire their manager Alan Koch after the team opened their inaugural MLS season with only two wins in 11 games. The decision was made public on Tuesday, with Cincinnati announcing that assistant coach Yoann Damet will take over managerial duties on an interim basis.

“After a series of recent issues and a team culture that had deteriorated, we determined that it’s time to make a change to return a club-centered focus to the team,” -said FC Cincinnati President and general manager Jeff Berding in a statement.

Koch’s firing came after the 44-year-old manager started questioning the strength of his team and the talent he has on disposal. This caused unsettlement among the players, which contributed to an unhealthy situation in the locker room.

“This decision is not driven by recent game results themselves, but rather the underpinnings that have led to those results.” – added Berding. “We have not come close to maximizing the talent we have in the dressing room this year, nor have we seen a foundation being built that will set us up for success this year and into next year. Our whole locker room is committed to our club goal of earning an MLS postseason bid, and we need to put them in the best position to do so.”

Alan Koch was named FC Cincinnati’s manager in February 2017, while the team was still competing in United Soccer League. In his first season with the team, he took Cincinnati to semifinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup while they finished USL regular season with 12–10–10 record. The following year, Cincinnati claimed the USL Regular Season Championship while Koch was named the USL Coach of the Year.

FC Cincinnati is slowly building a roster for their inaugural MLS season in 2019. The team announced on Wednesday that they have acquired midfielder Victor Ulloa from FC Dallas, sending $150,000 General Allocation Money in exchange. Dallas might be entitled to up to $100,000 more, depending on Ulloa’s performances.

Victor brings significant MLS experience to our group,” – said FC Cincinnati head coach Alan Koch in a statement. “We believe he can help stabilize our midfield and is another important piece of the puzzle as we continue to solidify our roster ahead of next season.”

Victor Ulloa started his soccer career in the FC Dallas Academy in 2009, playing there for three years before being promoted to the first team in 2011 and signing as a homegrown player.  He struggled in the first three seasons in MLS, but bounced back in 2014 under new head coach Óscar Pareja and established himself as a regular starter in the midfield.

Ulloa played a total of 144 regular season games in Dallas and managed to score five goals.

Besides trading for Victor Ulloa, FC Cincinnati recently made several other moves that benefit their midfield. The team drafted Eric Alexander at the recent Expansion Draft while also acquiring the MLS rights for Roland Lamah. They also signed several players from USL.
