FC Cincinnati passed on the opportunity to cash in on their in-demand forward Brandon Vazquez. The MLS side reportedly rejected an offer in the range of $7 million for Vazquez from Liga MX’s Chivas.

Chivas and Cincinnati have been negotiating for the past month or so, but the talks never progressed to a point where a deal would be likely. Eventually, Cincinnati’s ownership stepped in and made it clear they didn’t want to see Vazquez leave.

FC Cincinnati general manager Chris Albright confirmed the Chivas’ interest in a chat for MLSsoccer.com but didn’t go into details of the negotiations.

“We appreciate Chivas’ offer and their professionalism in the process,” said Albright. “However, at this point, our ownership is focused on winning games and building a sustainably successful organization, and we see Brandon being a big part of that.”

Brandon Vazquez has been with FC Cincinnati since 2020 but only came to prominence this past season. He delivered a breakthrough campaign that saw him start 32 games and score 18 goals with eight assists. The 24-year-old player also added one goal in the postseason.

After missing out on Vazquez, Chivas is turning its focus to other targets. They recently showed interest in Charlotte FC’s striker Daniel Ríos, who is expected to be a cheaper and more viable option.
