The Cincinnati Bengals’ All-Pro defensive end Trey Hendrickson has asked to be traded. According to player’s agent Harold Lewis, Hendrickson is looking for a long-term deal, something the Bengals are unwilling to give him at the moment.

Hendrickson initially signed a four-year, $60 million contract with the Bengals in 2021. After outperforming his contract to a large margin in his first two years with the franchise, he received a one-year, $21 million extension that tied him to Cincinnati through the 2025 season.

Hendrickson went on to compile a career year in 2023, racking up 17.5 sacks, 43 tackles, and three forced fumbles en route to a First-Team All-Pro nod. This established him as one of the NFL’s premium defensive ends, and now he wants to be paid like one.

“Our No. 1 goal is to get a long-term commitment from them,” Lewis told ESPN after the news of Hendrickson’s trade request was made public. “If we can’t, then we’re asking for a trade. And hopefully if he gets traded, that’s what we do — get a long-term commitment with somewhere else.”

Hendrickson already met with the Bengals’ brass to discuss his trade request and was told that he won’t be traded. However, the franchise is willing to discuss a new deal after the 2024 NFL season.

Reportedly, the Bengals have no interest in trading Hendrickson as they want to compete for the Super Bowl this upcoming season and beyond. They hold the same stance when it comes to wideout Tee Higgins, who demanded a trade back in March.

After failing to reach a contract extension with wideout Tee Higgins, the Cincinnati Bengals will resort to a franchise tag in order to prevent him from entering free agency in March.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bengals have already informed Higgins about their plans. The franchise tag will see Higgins earn a guaranteed salary of $21.8 million in 2024.

The Bengals’ move isn’t unexpected, considering how valuable Higgins has been for the franchise since entering the league as the second-round pick in 2020. He has been considered one of the best No. 2 wideouts in the league, recording 1,000+ yards in 2021 and 2022 campaigns.

The 2023 season was the least productive for Higgins in the NFL, as he missed five games dealing with a hamstring injury. He finished the year with 42 receptions for 656 yards and five touchdowns. Still, there is a belief that he would command top wide receiver money on the free market if he were to enter it.

While the Bengals value Higgins, they have been hesitant about signing him to a large deal. Handing quarterback Joe Burrow a five-year, $275 million extension last season and having their star wideout Ja’Marr Chase in line for a new deal, Cincinnati might not have much wiggle room in their salary cap to give Higgins the salary he likely wants.

By placing a franchise tag on Higgins, the Bengals are able to keep him for at least one season and delay their decision. They could also trade him and likely get a significant haul of draft picks, although that seems like an unlikely scenario at the moment.

The Cincinnati Bengals expressed optimism that receiver Ja’Marr Chase will be fit in time to play in Sunday’s crucial game against the Kansas City Chiefs. After missing last week’s 34-11 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chase was a limited participant in Thursday’s and Friday’s practice sessions.

Bengals coach Zac Taylor confirmed that Chase was able to complete his designated workload for the week despite his prolonged absence over the past week. Prior to Thursday’s practice, Chase had been unavailable since December 16, when he injured his right shoulder in the Bengals’ 27-24 win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Despite his recent injury setback, Chase expressed confidence about his ability to perform against the Chiefs. “They know I’m good. They know how to play us,” he explained, adding: “That’s what it is. But it’s not like they got a superstar on their defense.” While the Chiefs are in a position to make the playoffs, the Bengals still have an outside chance of clinching a playoff berth, making a win on Sunday crucial to have any chance of progressing.

The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is set to miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn ligament in his right wrist. While Bengals coach Zac Taylor explained that initial information showed that Burrow may be able to make a full recovery, it is still unclear as to whether he will need surgery.

Burrow was injured during Thursday’s 34-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The quarterback fell on his wrist after he was hit by Ravens defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. While able to make a touchdown pass on the next play, Burrow subsequently went down in pain, unable to play the remainder of the game.

“I felt a pop in the middle of the throw,” Burrow explained. “I tried to give it a go but couldn’t get it done.” Unsure of the seriousness of the injury, the Bengals medical team was able to confirm on Friday that Burrow’s setback was a severe one. Still, Burrow explained that he will remain at his teammates’ side as they continue the season.

While the player harbors a back injury, the Bengals want to see how he copes during the pregame warmups before coming to a final decision regarding his inclusion.

“We’ll see. I thought he was good,” Bengals coach Zac Taylor said of Chase following Friday’s practice. Chase is still recovering after suffering his back injury due to a hard fall during last week’s 24-18 win over the Buffalo Bills. While he was unable to participate in Wednesday’s practice, Chase had limited participation in Thursday’s practice and was spotted again during Friday’s open practice session.

Despite lengthy negotiations, the Cincinnati Bengals and wideout Tee Higgins failed to agree to an extension prior to the start of the 2023 season. According to a recent report by The Athletic’s Dianna Russini and Paul Dehner Jr., this will likely result in Higgins becoming a free agent in 2024.

The Bengals have a strict policy of not negotiating contracts with players during the season. They are reportedly unlikely to make an exception for Higgins, regardless of how important he is for their offense. Higgins is currently in the final year of his rookie deal and will receive $3.9 million in base salary and bonuses.

Cincinnati made several offers to Higgins in recent months, but they were all rejected, being described as “low” compared to what the 24-year-old was expecting. It doesn’t come as a surprise that the team isn’t willing to break the bank for Higgins, as they just made quarterback Joe Burrow the highest-paid player in NFL history. Also, they will likely need to give their star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase a market-resetting extension when he becomes eligible for one next offseason.

Higgins has been one of the most consistent wideouts in the league since the Bengals selected him in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Clemson product had a promising rookie campaign that saw him get 67 receptions for 908 yards and six touchdowns.

He followed that up with 74 catches, 1,000+ receiving yards, and six or more touchdowns in both of his previous two seasons.

Despite not agreeing to a new deal with Higgins, the Bengals are not in real danger of losing him in free agency. They can always place a franchise tag on him to keep him around for another year or trade him for a premium return.

Veteran running back Joe Mixon is staying with the Cincinnati Bengals. Mixon reportedly restructured his contract in a way that will make it more manageable for the team.

Mixon was set to earn $10.1 million in base salary in 2023 but had no guaranteed money on his deal. Considering he also carried a cap hit of $12.8 million, it was widely expected that the Bengals either move on from him or make some kind of agreement to lower the number.

The two sides opted for the latter, and Mixon will now earn a base salary of $5.5 million while being able to earn another $2 million in incentives.

Mixon’s agent Peter Schaffer later confirmed the contract restructure to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, saying that his client believes he can win a Super Bowl ring with the Bengals.

“Joe’s goal is to win a Super Bowl and play his career in Cincinnati, and this is the best way to accomplish these goals,” said Schaffer.

Mixon spent all of his six years as a pro with the Bengals. He rushed for 5,378 yards and 40 touchdowns during that time. The Oklahoma product’s best season in NFL came in 2021 when he rushed for 1,205 yards and 13 TDs while earning a Pro Bowl nod.

The Cincinnati Bengals’ wideout Tyler Boyd believes the Kansas City Chiefs were fortunate to get past the Bengals in the 2022 AFC Championship and win Super Bowl LVII.

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Boyd said that the Bengals would have beaten the Chiefs if only he was able to play the entire game. Boyd suffered a thigh bruise in the second quarter of the AFC Championship and was forced to miss the remainder of the contest.

“Still to this day, I feel like if I would have played the whole game, I was the key factor,” Boyd told reporters about the Chiefs’ 20-23 win over the Bengals. “We would’ve won the game.”

Boyd made two catches for 40 yards before the injury took place. He attempted to get back in the second half, but treatment wasn’t effective enough to allow him a return to action.

“I wish I was able to do it, but things happen,” he added.

The Bengals’ head coach Zac Taylor previously said that losing Boyd did have a significant impact on the game plan. The Chiefs were able to double-team Cincinnati’s two primary wide receivers, Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase, forcing Taylor to make various adjustments.

Tyler Boyd, who has spent his entire NFL career with the Bengals, had 82 catches for 762 yards and five touchdowns last season. He currently has one year left on his contract with Cincinnati, but it is unclear whether he’ll play it out since the team would get close to $9 million in salary cap space if they release the 28-year-old player.

Despite being eligible for a contract extension since the offseason started, Cincinnati Bengals’ star quarterback Joe Burrow still didn’t get one. But the good news for the Bengals’ fans is that the two sides are working on it.

Burrow confirmed the ongoing extension talks during a press conference on Tuesday but said that he and the Bengals prefer to keep the details to themselves.

“I’m involved. That’s in the works,” Burrow told reporters. “That’s not really something that I like to play out in the media. That’s something — just the way, I think, they want to do business, I want to do business, we prefer to keep that between us.”

This offseason already saw two young star quarterbacks sign new long-term deals with their franchises. The Philadelphia Eagles signed Jalen Hurts to a five-year, $255 million contract in mid-April, followed by the Baltimore Ravens, who inked Lamar Jackson to a five-year, $260 million deal.

Their respective deals caused Hurts and Jackson to become the highest-paid players in the leagues at one point, and the same will likely happen with Burrow when he inks an extension of his own.

In his three seasons with the Bengals, Joe Burrow completed 68.2 percent of his passes while throwing for 11,774 yards and 82 touchdowns. He led the franchise to consecutive AFC Championship trips in the past two seasons and a Super Bowl XXIII appearance in 2021.

The Cincinnati Bengals are yet to lock their standout wide receiver Tee Higgins to a long-term extension despite the fact that he is entering the final year of his rookie deal in 2023. While this development would probably frustrate many players, especially if they had back-to-back seasons with 1,000+ receiving yards, Higgins doesn’t seem to be stressing much about the whole situation.

During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Higgins said that he is currently focused on preparing for the upcoming season and is leaving the contract negotiations to his representatives.

“Yeah, right now, I’m just preparing for the season,” Higgins told the host Pat McAfee when asked about his extension. “I’m not really worried about the contract. Obviously, I want to get a deal done, but I let my agent handle that, and you know, right now, just for me getting my body right for next season.”

There were rumors earlier this offseason that the Bengals would rather trade Higgins than give him a new contract. The franchise will soon have to work out big-time extensions for star quarterback Joe Burrow and All-Pro wideout Ja’Marr Chase and might be hesitant to commit significant money to Higgins.

If this is true, there will be no shortage of teams lining up to give Higgins the kind of deal he wants. The Clemson product has been highly-productive since entering the league in 2020 while being considered an above-average route-runner. The 24-year-old has 215 catches for 3,028 yards and 19 touchdowns in his three years as a pro.
