Veteran running back Joe Mixon is staying with the Cincinnati Bengals. Mixon reportedly restructured his contract in a way that will make it more manageable for the team.

Mixon was set to earn $10.1 million in base salary in 2023 but had no guaranteed money on his deal. Considering he also carried a cap hit of $12.8 million, it was widely expected that the Bengals either move on from him or make some kind of agreement to lower the number.

The two sides opted for the latter, and Mixon will now earn a base salary of $5.5 million while being able to earn another $2 million in incentives.

Mixon’s agent Peter Schaffer later confirmed the contract restructure to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, saying that his client believes he can win a Super Bowl ring with the Bengals.

“Joe’s goal is to win a Super Bowl and play his career in Cincinnati, and this is the best way to accomplish these goals,” said Schaffer.

Mixon spent all of his six years as a pro with the Bengals. He rushed for 5,378 yards and 40 touchdowns during that time. The Oklahoma product’s best season in NFL came in 2021 when he rushed for 1,205 yards and 13 TDs while earning a Pro Bowl nod.
