The San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey could be fit in time to play for his team against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, league sources familiar with the matter revealed late on Tuesday.

McCaffrey suffered an oblique/rib injury during the 49ers’ loss to the Cleveland Browns last Sunday. Injured during the third quarter, the running back returned to the field for one more play after going down injured. After a six-yard run with just three minutes left on the clock, McCaffrey was forced off the field yet again, this time leaving for the locker room before being ruled out of the final quarter entirely.

After undergoing an MRI on Monday, it was determined that the 27-year-old player’s injury was not as bad as first feared, ruling out the likelihood of a long-term absence. This development comes as left tackle Trent Williams and wide receiver Deebo Samuel both look to make their returns to the team on Monday night after suffering injuries of their own.

San Francisco 49ers’ star running back Christian McCaffrey continued his strong start of the 2023 NFL season on Thursday night, rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown to help his team get a 30-12 win over the New York Giants.

McCaffrey’s score versus the Giants meant that he now has scored a TD in 12 consecutive games. By doing so, he tied Hall of Famer Jerry Rice’s franchise record for consecutive games with a touchdown.

Speaking with reporters after the game, McCaffrey said it is a huge honor for him to match Rice while also crediting the 49ers’ offensive line.

“That’s a huge honor,” McCaffrey said after. “Obviously scoring touchdowns is a team line. O-line did a great job blocking, I just had to hit the hole.”

The 49ers’ decision to give up significant assets to acquire McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers last year raised quite a few eyebrows. However, the move has seemed to be paying off big time.

Since arriving to San Francisco, McCaffrey played in 16 games and scored a TD in 14 of them. Also, the 49ers are 15-1 when he starts in the backfield. The 27-year-old is off to a great start in 2023, leading the league in rushing with 353 rushing yards.

The Carolina Panthers is already punting on the 2022 season after a dreadful start to the campaign. The franchise already fired head coach Matt Rule and they now seem to be ready to move on from their star running back Christian McCaffrey.

According to multiple reports, the Panthers have been answering the calls on the face of their franchise and would be willing to trade him if the right offer comes their way. However, it appears that the team isn’t set on moving from McCaffrey at all costs and is content with keeping him around for 2023 if they don’t get their asking price.

While sources close to the Panthers organization say the price is multiple first-round picks for McCaffrey, there is a sentiment that one first-round selection would be enough to land the 26-year-old. The list of interested teams at the moment includes the Buffalo Bills, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Los Angeles Rams.

After playing only 10 games in the past two seasons due to injuries, Christian McCaffrey managed to remain fairly healthy in 2022. He has rushed for 393 yards and two touchdowns while also catching 33 passes for 277 yards and a score throughout the season’s first six weeks.

McCaffrey, the Panthers’ eighth pick in 2017, has had two All-Pro nods and a Pro Bowl selection since entering the league. He is only the third player in NFL history to record 1,000+ yards rushing and 1,000+ yards receiving in a single season, achieving the feat in 2019.

The idea of trading their star running back Christian McCaffrey seemed ludicrous to the Carolina Panthers just a couple of years ago. Fast forward to 2022, and the Panthers are not only taking calls on McCaffrey but are also willing to consider the incoming offers.

According to ESPN’s David Newton, multiple teams have contacted Carolina to inquire about McCaffrey in recent weeks and discovered that the Panthers might do the deal if the right offer comes in. While the team isn’t pushing to move McCaffrey out of town at all costs, there is a sense around the NFL that a first-rounder and a useful player could be enough for them to greenlit the trade.

Christian McCaffrey had his best season in the NFL in 2019, when he earned All-Pro honors after becoming only the third player in history to have 1,000+ yards in both rushing and receiving. He finished the year with 1,387 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns while adding 116 catches for 1,005 receiving yards and four TDs. After the campaign ended, McCaffrey inked a four-year, $64 million contract extension that made him the highest-paid running back in NFL history.

Unfortunately for Carolina, the big money invested in McCaffrey is yet to pay off. After his historic season, McCaffrey struggled with injuries that limited him to just 10 games in the past two years. He also failed to be efficient when healthy, managing 667 rushing yards in 2020 and 2021 combined.

It is unclear which teams contacted the Panthers about McCaffrey, but it is believed that the Buffalo Bills is one of them. The Bills want to supplement their productive passing game with a quality run game and believe McCaffrey could help them achieve that despite his recent struggles.

The Carolina Panthers are bracing for another game without their star running back Christian McCaffrey. The team’s head coach Matt Rhule told the media on Friday that McCaffrey won’t play in Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings as he is still working his way back from a hamstring injury.

McCaffrey got hurt in Week 3 win over the Houston Texans and Carolina elected not to put him on injured reserve, believing he could be back for the Vikings game. However, after the 25-year-old was limited in practice throughout the week, the Panthers took a safe route and opted to keep him on the sidelines.

“It just hasn’t been there yet,” Rhule said when asked about McCaffrey’s return. “He’s doing everything he can. It’s been three weeks. We hope to have him out there next week.”

McCaffrey also dealt with injuries in 2020, managing to play only three games due to a shoulder injury. He returned in great shape for this season and had 201 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown to go with 16 catches for 163 receiving yards before going down.

With McCaffrey being out, Carolina rolled with rookie Chuba Hubbard as their primary back. The fourth-round pick performed well in the role, totaling 158 yards on the ground and 47 passing yards in his past two starts.

Panthers are currently riding a two-game losing streak that dropped them to a 3-2 record and second spot in NFC South.

Carolina Panthers star running back Christian McCaffrey came back to the team last week after missing six weeks due to a high angle sprain and played admirably in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

However, McCaffrey reinjured himself in the close 33-31 loss against the reigning Super Bowl champions, this time hurting his shoulder. The team does not expect him to play this Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is considered “week to week” while his right shoulder heals.

McCaffrey signed a huge contract extension this year that made him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. He got the four-year, $64 million extension because he is seen as more than just a running back and is equally explosive and hard to stop as a pass-catcher.

In his return to the Panthers last week, McCaffrey’s ankle looked great. He rushed 18 times for 69 yards and one touchdown. He also caught 10 passes for 82 yards and one more score.

The good news for the Panthers is that they have another excellent dual-threat running back to turn to in Mike Davis. Davis has shown that he can carry the load in the six weeks that McCaffrey was out and will be expected to step up again in his absence.

The Carolina Panthers are going to be without their best player and top offensive weapon Christian McCaffrey for several weeks.

According to the team, McCaffrey suffered a high-ankle sprain in the team’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday and will most likely be out four to six weeks.

McCaffrey said that he is going to attack the rehab in an effort to try to get back on the field sooner than later. But that might not be the best course of action.

New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley, who suffered a season-ending knee injury on Sunday, dealt with a similar ankle injury last year, came back earlier than expected and didn’t look like his old self for most of the season.

This is McCaffrey’s first big injury, having played all 16 games in all three of his NFL seasons.

Even though the NFL is a passing league, McCaffrey stands out as one of the best offensive weapons because of his versatility and his ability to catch passes from the backfield and even line up as a receiver.

McCaffrey was the top pick in just about every NFL fantasy draft this year after finishing the 2019-2020 season with 15 touchdowns on 1,387 yards rushing and adding four passing touchdowns on 116 catches and 1,005 yards.

McCaffrey was also recently rewarded with a huge four-year contract extension worth $64 million.

Big news hit the National Football League on Monday afternoon as sources revealed that the Carolina Panthers had agreed to a record-breaking contract extension with star running back Christian McCaffrey.

The 23-year-old ball carrier will receive $64 million per year over the next four seasons, averaging $16 million annually. That breaks the previous record for a contract for a running back, which was held by the Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliott.

McCaffrey, who was the Panthers’ first round pick and the eighth overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, broke out with a huge season in 2020. He became only the third player in league history to record 1,000 rushing and receiving yards in a season along with Roger Craig and Marshall Faulk.

The 2019 first team All-Pro selection finished the season with an astounding 1,387 rushing yards, 1,005 receiving yards, and 19 total touchdowns. His dominant season was one of the few bright spots for the Panthers, who finished 5-11 last year.

Now, the team under first-year coach Matt Rhule has one of its cornerstones locked up for the long-term, giving security to a franchise that has seen a lot of changes recently.

McCaffrey and the team are expected to officially announce the deal in the coming days.

Carolina Panthers’ running back Christian McCaffrey had a great regular season in 2019 despite the struggles of his team. The 23-year-old earned Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro honors, while also becoming only the third player in NFL history to have 1,000+ yards rushing and 1,000+ yards receiving in a single season.

Rams’ legend Marshall Faulk, who was the last player to achieve this feat in 1999, knows how hard it is to get to this mark. This is why he recently told Panthers’ website that he considers McCaffrey, whom he called “phenomenal,” a better player than he was.

“He’s a better version of me,” Faulk stated. “He got to watch me. He got to see me. It’s what happens. You get to be a better version of.”

In 1999, Faulk rushed for 1,381 yards while adding 87 receptions for 1,048 yards en route to AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year award. He, however, was part of “The Greatest Show on Turf” Rams’ team at the time and acknowledges that McCaffrey faced larger obstacles to achieve his feat.

“He had to do more with less help. I had a lot of help,” Faulk added.

Before Faulk and McCaffrey, Roger Craig was the first player to have 1,000+ rushing yards rushing and 1,000+ receiving yards. Craig did this in 1985 as a member of San Francisco 49ers, finishing the year with 1,050 yards rushing and 1,016 yards receiving.

While Craig and Faulk had Hall of Fame quarterbacks in Joe Montana and Kurt Warner respectively to help them, Christian McCaffrey played with three different QBs, including a second-year player in Kyle Allen and rookie in Will Grier.

McCaffrey ended the 2019 season with 1,387 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns, while also adding 116 catches for 1,005 yards and four TDs.
