San Francisco 49ers’ star running back Christian McCaffrey continued his strong start of the 2023 NFL season on Thursday night, rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown to help his team get a 30-12 win over the New York Giants.
McCaffrey’s score versus the Giants meant that he now has scored a TD in 12 consecutive games. By doing so, he tied Hall of Famer Jerry Rice’s franchise record for consecutive games with a touchdown.
Speaking with reporters after the game, McCaffrey said it is a huge honor for him to match Rice while also crediting the 49ers’ offensive line.
“That’s a huge honor,” McCaffrey said after. “Obviously scoring touchdowns is a team line. O-line did a great job blocking, I just had to hit the hole.”
The 49ers’ decision to give up significant assets to acquire McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers last year raised quite a few eyebrows. However, the move has seemed to be paying off big time.
Since arriving to San Francisco, McCaffrey played in 16 games and scored a TD in 14 of them. Also, the 49ers are 15-1 when he starts in the backfield. The 27-year-old is off to a great start in 2023, leading the league in rushing with 353 rushing yards.
