The San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey could be fit in time to play for his team against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, league sources familiar with the matter revealed late on Tuesday.
McCaffrey suffered an oblique/rib injury during the 49ers’ loss to the Cleveland Browns last Sunday. Injured during the third quarter, the running back returned to the field for one more play after going down injured. After a six-yard run with just three minutes left on the clock, McCaffrey was forced off the field yet again, this time leaving for the locker room before being ruled out of the final quarter entirely.
After undergoing an MRI on Monday, it was determined that the 27-year-old player’s injury was not as bad as first feared, ruling out the likelihood of a long-term absence. This development comes as left tackle Trent Williams and wide receiver Deebo Samuel both look to make their returns to the team on Monday night after suffering injuries of their own.
