Borussia Dortmund midfielder Christian Pulisic became the youngest player to score 10 goals for the United States men’s national soccer team in Tuesday’s friendly against Chile, but that came with a hefty price. According to ESPN, Pulisic tore his muscle in the match and will be out for three to four weeks.

The 20-year-old scored the opening goal against Chile in the fourth minute of the game but was then forced to leave the pitch late in the first half. This turned out to be USMNT’s only goal as the friendly ended with a 1-1 draw.

Pulisic’s injury was confirmed by Dortmund’s coach Lucien Favre.

“Christian Pulisic sadly is injured. He will definitely not play,” – said Favre ahead of Borussia’s Bundesliga clash against Wolfsburg on Saturday.

The injuries have been the story of the season for Christian Pulisic, as he was limited to just 25 games this season. Early in the season, he tore a calf muscle and then nursed a thigh muscle in February. Pulisic managed to provide two goals and three assists in the Bundesliga this season while adding one goal in seven Champions League matches.

Following the end of 2018-19 season, Christian Pulisic will be leaving Borussia Dortmund to join Chelsea. The Premier League giants agreed to acquire Pulisic in January for a fee of $72 million but loaned him back to Borussia until next season.

This caused Klopp to express his admiration for Pulisic’s game, but also to tell folks in the U.S. that they shouldn’t expect from him to carry the entire national team on his shoulders.

“He’s a fantastic skilled boy, and it’s not a surprise to see.” – said Klopp after the match. “He’s a smart player, and unfortunately the USA needs more of these players. He alone cannot do it all.“

“Don’t put too much pressure on the boy, hopefully, you can have a few more of them and then play very successful soccer in the future. If Belgium and Iceland can go to a World Cup then so can the USA. I think he’ll be fine,” – he added.
