Vinicius Jr is set to miss Real Madrid’s upcoming local derby against Atletico Madrid in La Liga on September 24 after picking up a thigh injury during his team’s 1-0 win over Celta Vigo on Friday night. The 23-year-old is set to miss a total of eight games for Los Blancos, sources familiar with the matter have claimed.

“Following tests carried out on Vini. Jr by the Real Madrid Medical Services, the player has been diagnosed with an injury to the right biceps femoris muscle,” Real Madrid confirmed in a statement on Monday. “His progress will be monitored.” This is the first muscular injury that the Brazilian has suffered throughout his senior career.

In addition to missing six La Liga games as well as Real Madrid’s first two Champions League fixtures, Vinicius will also be absent from the Brazilian national team during September’s international break. He will consequently miss Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti dismissed claims that Madrid may need to seek reinforcements before the transfer deadline in order to fill in for Vinicius. He expressed his belief that Real Madrid has enough firepower up front without the Brazilian.

Atletico Madrid’s star Antoine Griezmann has been on record saying that he wants to play in MLS one day. He reiterated his intention to come to the United States on Wednesday during a virtual press conference organized by La Liga and ESPN.

Griezmann spoke about the effect that Argentinean star Lionel Messi’s arrival had on MLS and shared that he is following his former Barcelona teammate’s new adventure closely.

“He’s incredible, and I think it’s the best thing MLS has done to bring in Leo, in terms of marketing and in terms of football,” Griezmann said via ESPN.

The 32-year-old Frenchman made it clear that he wants to follow in Messi’s footsteps.

“I’ve always said it. My target is to end up there, with everything that I like about American sports, playing in MLS and enjoying myself, being able to win things and be at my best level,” he added.

But before coming to MLS, Griezmann wants to achieve great things with Atletico.

“First I want to make history here and win trophies at Atleti. After that we’ll see…” Griezmann explained.

Antoine Griezmann had a successful 2022-23 campaign on an individual level, scoring 16 goals and adding 19 assists in all competitions. However, Atletico underperformed, coming third in La Liga and finishing last in Group B in UEFA Champions League.

New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino does not want to keep Joao Felix at Chelsea on a permanent deal, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo stated. Felix joined the Blues in January on a six-month loan from Atletico.

Although Felix impressed during his Chelsea tenure, scoring four Premier League goals in 16 appearances, Cerezo remains convinced that the 23-year-old player will return to Atletico at the end of his loan. Shortly prior to his loan deal, Felix signed a new contract with Atletico valid until 2027.

“The news that we received yesterday is that the new manager doesn’t count on him at Chelsea,” Cerezo told reporters. We don’t have anything planned, Joao is an Atletico player for now.”

When previously asked about his future, Felix hinted that his decision to remain at Chelsea would depend on the club’s ability to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Having finished the league season in 12th place, the Blues will not be involved in any European football next season.

Pochettino was revealed as Chelsea’s new manager on Monday after penning a two-year deal with the team. He will be tasked with helping the Blues improve after they endured their worst Premier League campaign to date.

Chelsea has completed the signing of Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid, the club announced on Wednesday. The loan fee for the forward is approximately £11 million.

“Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help the team reach their objectives, so I am very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge,” Felix said in a statement to the club’s official website. While Felix was also offered to Arsenal and Manchester United, neither club was prepared to meet Atletico’s financial demands.

Since joining Atletico Madrid in 2019 for a club-record fee of €126 million, the 23-year-old has struggled to make an impact at the La Liga club and has thus been unable to secure a regular spot in the starting 1. Felix has scored 34 goals in 131 games for Atletico.

Felix will be hoping to leave his mark at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues desperate to improve their performances in front of goal. Currently, Chelsea has scored the fewest goals of the teams in the top half of the Premier League table.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers have reached an agreement for the transfer of Matheus Cunha from Atletico Madrid, sources confirmed on Wednesday. The Brazilian forward will arrive at Wolves for a fee of €40 million plus variables.

The 23-year-old player joined Atletico in 2021 from Hertha Berlin, however, a lack of regular playing time has resulted in the Brazilian seeking a move elsewhere. Due to significant squad depth, Atletico manager Diego Simeone has an array of forwards to choose from, including the likes of regulars Alvaro Morata, Joao Felix, and Antoine Griezmann.

Additional variables of up to €15 million could accompany the deal, with Atletico receiving €10 million while Hertha receives the remaining €5 million.

With seven goals in 54 appearances for Atletico, Cunha’s lack of game time resulted in his missing out on a spot in the squad that Brazil took to the 2022 World Cup.

Currently, the Wolves sit at the foot of the Premier League table with 10 points from their first 15 games. Under new manager Julen Lopetegui, they will be hoping to pick up their form, while Cunha will be relied on to bolster their struggling attack.

Atletico Madrid has confirmed that Joao Felix is one of four players that have been transfer listed by the club ahead of the midseason transfer window in January. Joining him are Matheus Cunha, Felipe and Mario Hermoso.

The decision to make Felix available for transfer is part of the La Liga club’s strategy to improve its financial position. Atletico’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League during the group stage resulted in a significant missed opportunity for the club to recuperate its finances.

Now, the club is looking to secure a top-four finish in La Liga. Currently, the club is in the fifth position and is vying for the coveted top-four spot with Athletic Club and Real Betis.

Having signed for Atletico for €127 million in July 2019, Felix has struggled to establish consistent form, scoring 33 goals and supplying 18 assists in 129 appearances. Now, the 23-year-old player is rumored to be a transfer target of Premier League clubs Arsenal and Aston Villa.

“He’s the biggest bet this club has taken in its history,” Atletico Madrid chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin said of Felix during an interview. “I personally think he’s a top talent, a world-class player. I’d love him to stay personally, but I don’t think that’s the player’s idea.”

FC Barcelona is planning to file a lawsuit against Atletico Madrid demanding that the club pay them €40 million for Antoine Griezmann. The Blaugranes believe that their La Liga rivals are obligated to fulfill the contractual clause demanding this payment as Griezmann played over 45 minutes in 30 of the 37 games he was eligible for last season.

According to the clause in question, Atletico will be obligated to purchase Griezmann from Barcelona on a permanent deal if the Frenchman plays over 45 minutes in 50% of the games he is selectable for over the course of two seasons.

This condition has led to Atletico using Griezmann as a substitute, only bringing him on after the 61st minute of each of their first five La Liga fixtures.

“It’s not in my hands. I want to [play] more, but I will give everything in the minutes I am given. I am happy to be here, the only thing I want is to give everything for this club, for Cholo [coach Diego Simeone] and the fans,” Griezmann stated when asked about the ongoing situation between the rival La Liga clubs.

When questioned about the dispute, Barcelona coach Xavi stated that “It’s not to do with me, it’s an issue between the two clubs.”

Atletico Madrid and Benfica couldn’t pull off a major upset like Villarreal and are out of UEFA Champions League. Instead, Manchester City and Liverpool are through to the semi-finals thanks to their respective wins in the first leg of the quarterfinals.

Man City will now face Villarreal in the semis while Liverpool plays Real Madrid.

Atletico needed to score at least a goal on their home field against Man City after a 1-0 loss in the first game, but they just couldn’t find the firepower to do it. On the other hand, the Premier League club was content to sit back and protect their goal. The game ended with a 0-0 draw, enough for City to move forward.

The game against Liverpool and Benfica was much more exciting. Liverpool won the first game 3-1 and was the first one to score in the second leg. Defender Ibrahima Konate scored in the 21st minute to give his team the lead. However, thanks to Goncalo Ramos, the Portuguese side managed to get the equalizer 10 minutes later.

Despite still leading 4-2 on aggregate, Liverpool didn’t want to take any risks. Striker Roberto Firmino scored twice early in the second half to give Jurgen Klopp’s team an even bigger cushion. To their credit, Benfica would go on to tie the game, but that was not nearly enough to make any difference.

The first leg of the semi-finals will play out on April 27th, while the rematches will take place on May.

Forward Antoine Griezmann has joined his former club Atletico Madrid from FC Barcelona on a season-long loan, both clubs announced on Tuesday. The loan deal, which was completed during a dramatic transfer deadline day, is worth €10 million ($12 million). This includes an option for Atletico to purchase Griezmann for €40 million ($47 million) once the loan expires.

According to Atletico Madrid, the loan includes an option to extend for another year; a viable alternative to purchasing the French national.

Griezmann originally left Atletico in favor of a move to FC Barcelona in 2019, for the astronomical fee of €120 million. He has since struggled to adapt to life at the Camp Nou, scoring La Liga 22 goals over two seasons.

In order to fill the void that Griezmann would leave behind due to his departure, Barca manager Ronald Koeman decided to strike a loan deal with Sevilla for striker Luuk de Jong.

Prior to striking the deal for de Jong, Barcelona entertained the idea of bringing either Saul Niguez or Joao Felix to the club in a swap deal with Atletico. Ultimately, the Atletico board was unwilling to let Felix depart the club, while Saul completed a season-long loan to Premier League club Chelsea.

After previously adding Nathan Ake, Manchester City tried to get another addition to their struggling defense. The Premier League giants offered around $100 million for Atletico Madrid’s center back Jose Gimenez but saw their bid rejected by the Spanish club.

Atletico’s president Enrique Cerezo confirmed these reports in a recent chat with El Transistor, saying that the club isn’t interested in selling one of their best players.

“We did receive the offer,” said Cerezo.”But Gimenez is a magnificent player, and we are interested in having magnificent players on the team.”

Jose Gimenez established himself as one of the best center backs in the game in recent years and is constantly pursued by the top European clubs. Atletico, however, has been reluctant to sell him as they want to continue challenging for the La Liga title and UEFA Champions League trophy.

Gimenez joined Atletico in 2013 from Danubio and has played close to 200 games for the club in all competitions since then.

Man City is now expected to turn their focus elsewhere, having several other defenders on their radar. Out of the bunch, Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly seems to be the team’s preferred choice as they made several inquiries for the Senegalese in the past.
