Vinicius Jr is set to miss Real Madrid’s upcoming local derby against Atletico Madrid in La Liga on September 24 after picking up a thigh injury during his team’s 1-0 win over Celta Vigo on Friday night. The 23-year-old is set to miss a total of eight games for Los Blancos, sources familiar with the matter have claimed.

“Following tests carried out on Vini. Jr by the Real Madrid Medical Services, the player has been diagnosed with an injury to the right biceps femoris muscle,” Real Madrid confirmed in a statement on Monday. “His progress will be monitored.” This is the first muscular injury that the Brazilian has suffered throughout his senior career.

In addition to missing six La Liga games as well as Real Madrid’s first two Champions League fixtures, Vinicius will also be absent from the Brazilian national team during September’s international break. He will consequently miss Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti dismissed claims that Madrid may need to seek reinforcements before the transfer deadline in order to fill in for Vinicius. He expressed his belief that Real Madrid has enough firepower up front without the Brazilian.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
