The Los Angeles Lakers have snapped their 4-game losing streak Saturday night with a comfortable win over the Trail Blazers in Portland. The Lakers managed to win the first 3 quarters, with the last one ending in a 25-25 tie. Once again, the main Lakers duo Antony Davis and Lebron James both scored a total of 41 points, right behind Kyle Kuzma who scored season-high 24 points in 30 minutes. 

Lebron James found his teammates 16 times, going above his season rating of 11.0 assists per game, remaining on top in this category. The new Lakers star Antony Davis played 36 minutes and scored 20 points with 9 rebounds and 5 assists. 

Portland’s superstar Damian Lillard was the man of the match by scoring 31 points with 9 assists. Hassan Whiteside once again played a wonderful match, adding 19 points and 16 rebounds. Cj McCollum had 18 points in 38 minutes, not enough to help Lillard and Whiteside against Lebron and Davis. The Lakers won this match thanks to the good shooting from the field (51.6%) and the tough defense. Portland consolidated in the end but the game finished 120-128 in favor of the Lakers.

The current European champions Liverpool have extended their lead to 13 points at the top of the league after their victory over 2^nd placed Leicester City, on a traditional Boxing Day fixture. Jurgen Klopp’s side once again proved that they are the only candidates for the Premier League title so far. Liverpool is chasing their 19^th league title, first since 1990. 

Liverpool put four goals in Schmeichel’s net, having no problem against the surprisingly-weak 2^nd placed Leicester, who stood no chance against The Reds.  

The score was open by Roberto Firmino in the 31^st minute, after Alexander-Arnold’s cross landed on Firmino’s head. Leicester had huge problems in the defense, but Sadio Mane’s strike was deflected by Schmeichel right after the goal was scored. Leicester had zero shots in the first half, proving that Liverpool are the better team at the moment. 

Nothing changed in the 2^nd half for Leicester as Liverpool maintained full control over the field. Caglar Soyuncu tapped the ball with his hand in the penalty box 20 minutes before the end. James Milner converted the penalty into success and made it 0-2. Until the end, Firmino and Alexander-Arnold finished the job, scoring two more goals for a final result of 0-4.

The once-powerful European giant AC Milan has suffered their 3^rd straight loss, this time to Fiorentina, in the Italian Serie A making this their worst start in 81 years. This loss puts more and more pressure on Marco Giampaolo, who managed to win only 2 games in 6 matches. Despite the horrible start of the season, Milan has pulled off from the Europa League due to financial problems and now are focused on the Calcio.  

The game went down the hill for Milan early in the 14^th minute, when Ismael Bennancer tackled Frank Ribery in the penalty box. Erik Pulgar converted the kick from the spot, making it 0-1 for the visitors from Florence.   

Things did not go well for Milan even in the second 45 minutes when Matteo Mussachio earned a straight red card. Shortly after the red card, Fiorentina increased their lead by 0-2 with Gaetano Gastorovilli’s goal in the 66th minute. Only 4 minutes after the goal, Fiorentina was awarded another penalty, but Federico Chiesa missed the penalty. Despite the missed penalty, Fiorentina scored the 3rd goal through Frank Ribery in the 78^th minute. The only thing that Milan managed to do is to score a goal back through Rafael Leao in the 80^th minute.

Parma and Torino closed the 6^th week of the Italian Serie A with a 3-2 score for the home team, a win earned late in the second half. 

The score was opened quickly after the referee’s whistle, a goal scored by the Swedish international Dejan Kulusevski, with Gervinho assisting him in front of the open goal. Torino managed to level the score just 10 minutes later through Christian Ansaldi. The defender out-jumped the defense and scored past Luigi Sepe. 

Torino’s defender Brener managed to receive 2 yellow cards in 8 minutes, after he touched the ball with his hand in the penalty box. The referee awarded a penalty for Parma after the consultations with the VAR system. Gervinho’s penalty was saved by Salvatore Sirigu in the 30^th minute. 

Shortly before half-time, another penalty was given, this time for the visitors and again rewarded after the VAR replay. Andrea Belotti scored past Sepe and giving his team the lead with 10 men on the field. Just 2 minutes later, Andreas Cornelius leveled the score for Parma, with Dejan Kulusevski providing the assist.

In this week’s Madrid Derby, both teams played a frustrating match without chances on both sides of the pitch. The home team had 0 shots on target the entire match, while the visitors had many chances to close the match, but Jan Oblak kept a clean sheet.

The match was played at Alten Forestei, with Frankfurt leaving the capital with all 3 points. The first half finished goalless, with both teams struggling to find the net. 

However, unlike the first half, the second 45 minutes brought 3 goals, with Frankfurt scoring first through Bas Dost in the 48^th minute. Surprisingly, Union Berlin had better ball possession then Frankfurt in the entire match. That ball possession brought nothing to Berlin, as Frankfurt scored their second goal in the 62^nd minute through their new attacker Andre Silva, who is on loan from AC Milan.  

The hosts pulled back after the goal, focusing on the defense until the end.  Anthony Ujah came off the bench for Union Berlin and pulled one goal back in the 86^th minute, making the last 15 minutes a really tough job for the hosts. Berlin players made one final push in the stoppage time, but Frankfurt held off their attacks and left Berlin with 3 points. With this win, Frankfurt climbed to 7^th place on the table, while Union Berlin is now 14^th.

Spanish recorders Real Madrid have topped the table in the Spanish La Liga after their comfortable 2-0 win against Osasuna, the newly promoted team from League 2.

After a bad start in the league with 2 draws and a 3-0 defeat in the Champions League, the Galacticos managed to find their season form and earn two easy wins in 2 weeks. Last week they took a 0-1 win in Sevilla, dropping the Andalusians to the 2^nd place. 

Zinedine Zidane decided to rest some of his players, due to the upcoming Madrid derby against Atletico Madrid.

The young Brazilian stars such as Junior Vinicius, proved themselves worthy of the first team as Vinicius scored the first goal in the 36^th minute, with an assist by Toni Kross.

Real maintained total control of the ball, leaving Osasuna without a chance in the match. The 18-year-old Brazilian Rodrygo replaced Vinicius in the 2^nd half and scored just 60 seconds after coming in from the bench. 

After this match, Real Madrid tops the table, followed by Real Sociedad in 2^nd place and their city rivals Atletico coming in third.

The Best FIFA Football Awards were held Monday night in Teatro alla Scala in Milano, Italy, as FIFA declared the winners in several categories including Best Coach, Best Men’s Player, Best Woman’s Player, Best Woman’s Coach, Best Men’s and Woman’s Goalkeeper, Puskas Best Goal, and the ideal 11 from the past season. 

Lionel Messi was chosen as the Best Men’s player with a huge majority of 91% of the votes, way ahead of second-placed Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk, who won 4%. Cristiano Ronaldo won only 2% of the votes. 

Liverpool’s Allison Becker was chosen as the Best Goalkeeper, beating fellow Brazilian Ederson, and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. The Hungarian Daniel Zsory took the Puskas Best Goal award, with his stunning bicycle goal against Ferencvaros on 16^th of February 2019.  

Jurgen Klopp won the Coaching Award, as he led Liverpool to the Champions League title, and narrowly lost the Premier League title to Manchester City.  

Megan Rapione from Seattle Reign FC won the Best Woman’s award after her fantastic season in which she won her 2^nd World Cup title with the USA team. Her national team coach Jill Ellis was named the best Woman’s Coach without any rivals. Sari van Veenendaal took the Best Woman’s Goalkeeper award.

With yesterday’s derby at Stamford Bridge, the 6th fixture in the Premier League is over with Liverpool improving their undefeated streak to 6-0. After this win, Liverpool has extended their advantage over Manchester City by 5 points on the table.  

Liverpool opened the score in the 14^th minute through Trent Alexander-Arnold, after his shot from outside the box found the back of the net. Shortly after that, Chelsea leveled the score but the goal scored by their captain Cesar Azpilicueta was ruled offside through the VAR system. 

After that disallowed goal in the 27^th minute, Roberto Firmino increased the lead to 0-2 in the 30^th minute. Sadio Mane was fouled just outside the box by Azpilicueta and Andrew Robertson’s free kick found Firmino in the box and he scored past Kepa Arrizabalaga. 

With the second half underway, Chelsea put some pressure over Liverpool’s backline and that paid off in the 71^st minute, as Ngolo Kante scored to make it 1-2. Frank Lampard’s team tried one final push to earn a point, but Klopp’s players closed their paths to the goal, ending the match with Liverpool taking all 3 points.

After the weak performance against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League a few days ago, Barcelona has yet again disappointed their fans after the defeat against Granada with 2-0. With this shocking win, Granada tops the table in the Spanish La Liga, at least for a day. With this defeat, Barcelona are now 7^th on the national table and the pressure on Ernesto Valverde is now very high as Barcelona has been struggling to find a rhythm since the opening day. 

Ramon Azeez shocked the visitors after just 2 minutes of play as he scored past Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, which is the fastest goal that Barcelona has conceded since 2011. The Catalonians struggled the entire match, with only 1 shot on target at the very end. Lionel Messi was benched again but not even his presence changed anything. He had one shot that ended straight into the arms of Granada’s keeper. 

Arturo Vidal touched the ball with his hand, just seconds after coming off the bench, which resulted in a penalty for Granada via VAR. Alvaro Vadillo took the responsibility and converted the penalty kick, increasing the lead to 2-0 in the 66^th minute.
