The Best FIFA Football Award Winners Announced in Milano

The Best FIFA Football Awards were held Monday night in Teatro alla Scala in Milano, Italy, as FIFA declared the winners in several categories including Best Coach, Best Men’s Player, Best Woman’s Player, Best Woman’s Coach, Best Men’s and Woman’s Goalkeeper, Puskas Best Goal, and the ideal 11 from the past season. 

Lionel Messi was chosen as the Best Men’s player with a huge majority of 91% of the votes, way ahead of second-placed Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk, who won 4%. Cristiano Ronaldo won only 2% of the votes. 

Liverpool’s Allison Becker was chosen as the Best Goalkeeper, beating fellow Brazilian Ederson, and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. The Hungarian Daniel Zsory took the Puskas Best Goal award, with his stunning bicycle goal against Ferencvaros on 16th of February 2019.  

Jurgen Klopp won the Coaching Award, as he led Liverpool to the Champions League title, and narrowly lost the Premier League title to Manchester City.  

Megan Rapione from Seattle Reign FC won the Best Woman’s award after her fantastic season in which she won her 2nd World Cup title with the USA team. Her national team coach Jill Ellis was named the best Woman’s Coach without any rivals. Sari van Veenendaal took the Best Woman’s Goalkeeper award.
