When Usain Bolt retired in 2017, he did so while being considered the greatest sprinter in history. But even with nothing else left to prove, Bolt still thought about making a shocking comeback at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In a recent chat with Ade Adedoyin of BBC Sport, Bolt admitted that he wanted to come out of retirement in 2019 and try to add to his eight gold Olympic medals. However, the 35-year-old runner quickly gave up on the idea after bringing up the subject to his coach.

“I remember I went to him in 2019 and said, ‘what do you think about coming back for the Olympics?’ And he looked at me and said ‘don’t even start,'” Bolt shared. “So if it’s not my coach, I’m not going to do it, because I believe in him, and if he says no, it’s no—but I’ve got that itch, though.”

Despite having the itch, Bolt won’t act on it. He added that it’s too late now for that and that he is off to new ventures.

Since retiring from the track and field, Usain Bolt has tried to stay involved in the world of sports. He attempted to become a professional soccer player and even spent eight weeks on the roster of Australian A-League club Central Coast Mariners. Bolt played in several friendlies and even scored two goals before deciding to leave the club and put an end to his soccer career.

After being a track athlete and professional soccer player (briefly), Usain Bolt is now ready to try to compete in another sport. As it turns out, Bolt would be open to playing in the NFL.

Bolt was recently asked by TMZ what it would take to get him on an NFL team, considering that he admitted several years ago that he was getting offers to play football professionally.

“If the Patriots or Aaron Rodgers call me.” – said Bolt. “If they call me, I’m ready!”

Back in 2016, several NFL teams reached out to Bolt, offering him a tryout as a wide receiver. He refused the opportunity at the time, but it seems like his opinion changed since then.

“I got a lot of offers to go to the NFL,” – Bolt told LA Times back in September. “It was something that scared me at the time. I think it’s better now. Back then, it was really a rough sport. If it was like it is now, I think I would probably transition and try to play in the NFL.”

It remains unclear whether NFL teams would take a gamble on the 33-year-old Usain Bolt, despite all of his previous accomplishments. Still, NFL saw even stranger things happen, so don’t be surprised if you see Bolt in an NFL uniform at some point. Even if it’s an offseason practice.

Usain Bolt is giving up on his dream of becoming a soccer player. And not only that, he is quitting sports altogether.

After retiring from athletics, the eight-time Olympic gold medalist decided to shift his focus to soccer, training with several European clubs and even making several appearance for Australian side Central Coast Mariners in team’s friendly games in which he scored twice.

Despite this, Mariners opted against giving Bolt guaranteed deal, while the 32-year-old refused the opportunity to play in Malta for Valletta. Now it looks like he is ready to admit defeat.

“It was fun while it lasted,” – said Bolt. “I don’t want to say it wasn’t dealt with properly, but I think we went about it not the way we should … You live and you learn. It was a good experience, I really enjoyed just being in a team.”

He also said that the sports life is over for him and that he will focus on being a businessman.

“I’m just doing many different things … the sports life is over, so I’m now moving into different businesses. I have a lot of things in the pipeline, so as I say, I’m just dabbling in everything and trying to be a business man now.” – he added.

After establishing himself as the greatest sprinter of all time, Usain Bolt is now focused on becoming a successful soccer player. While that seemed like a long shot at first, the 32-year-old looks like he is on the right path in achieving that.

On Friday, Bolt made his first start for Australian A-League club Central Coast Mariners in a preseason friendly against South West Select and immediately made his mark by scoring two goals.

Bolt started the match as a central striker and scored his first goal in the 55th minute after managing to collect a through ball into the box with a strong sprint. He added the second one in the 68th minute when he took advantage of the mistake made by Central Coast Mariners’ defense.

“I‘ve been working, trying to get fit to the level that I can play for 45 minutes,” – Bolt told the club’s official website. “To me, I played well and happy with the progress I’m making. I was telling myself if I got the guy off my shoulders, set up myself and hit the target, that was the key thing.

Despite scoring two goals, it was clear that Bolt still has to do a lot of adjusting if he wants to be a successful soccer player. He struggled to keep the possession of the ball early in the game and made some bad moves when he had a chance to score. But, according to the player himself, he will get better with more games played.

The coach told me you will get chances, don’t get frustrated if you miss it’s a part of the game, you got to continue pushing till you get those chances.” – he added. “I need more games to get better and to know where to be. The coach will play me in different places, because of my speed, other strikers.

After setting the world records in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 4 × 100 meters relay, and winning eight Olympic gold medals, Usain Bolt decided to retire from athletics in late 2017 and pursue a career in soccer. He trained with several European clubs in 2018, but neither one gave him a contract. Bolt was then offered a trial in August 2018 by Central Coast Mariners and is now looking to get a full-time contract. If he continues to score, he might just get it.

Usain Bolt, 31, is the world’s fastest man on a track. If he realizes his dream, he will be the fastest man on a soccer field as well.

The eight-time Olympic champion faces a six-week trial with the Australia A-League club Central Coast Mariners. If successful, 31-year-old Bolt will join them on a season-long contract.

Borussia Dortmund of Germany took Bolt on trial last year. However, they failed to take their interest any further as he fell short of their standards. The Mariners and Australian soccer are more in need of a boost and will be less demanding of the Jamaican.

The A-League is desperate to combat plummeting attendances, as well as the ailing finances of several franchises. This situation led to some dismissing the deal as a publicity stunt while some supporters labeled it as “disastrous”.

Shaun Mielekamp, the Mariners chief executive, is adamant the club is serious, before adding a note of caution. “It’ll be exciting if he’s able to get to the level that we need.”

Football Federation Australia, the game’s governing body will fund some of his salary and has yet to sanction the deal. The Mariners are hopeful this will come quickly.

Bolt, however, told the Sydney Herald Sun that this is a “big deal” for him. “Everyone feels like I’m just kidding around, just joking,” he said, “but I’m serious.”

After retiring from athletics, Jamaican sprinter and eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt now looks to conquer soccer. Bolt mentioned he would like to become a soccer player on numerous occasions before, and now he is doing something about it. The 31-year-old revealed that he will have a trial with German top-flight club Borussia Dortmund in March, adding that the trials will determine the course of his further career.

In March we’re going to do trials with Dortmund and that will determine what I do with that career, which way it goes.” – said Bolt in an interview with the Daily Express. “If they say I’m good, and that I need a bit of training, I’ll do it.

Bolt may look to start his career in soccer with Dortmund, but his final goal is to play for Manchester United, the team he supports for a long time.

One of my biggest dreams is to sign for Manchester United.” – he added. “If Dortmund say I’m good enough, I’ll crack on and train hard. I’ve spoken to Alex Ferguson and I told him he needs to put in a good word. He told me if I get fit and ready, he will see what he can do.

Due to his numerous achievements, Usain Bolt is considered to be the greatest sprinter of all times. He currently holds the World Records for 100 meters and 200 meters sprint discipline, while also having a world record in 4 × 100 meters relay which he shares with Yohan Blake, Michael Frater, and Nesta Carter. Alongside eight Olympic gold medals, he won 17 more in various international competitions. His last competition was 2017’s World Championships in which he underperformed, winning only a bronze medal in 100 meters sprint and was unable to finish 4 × 100 meters relay after suffering an injury, which resulted in disqualification of the entire Jamaican team.

It’s safe to say that if you’re looking for some inspiration for your next workout program, there are worse places to look than the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt. While his elite genetics ensure that you’d never be able to catch up with him on the track no matter how hard you train, you can still steal his training regimen to get some next-level results for yourself.

While his elite genetics ensure that you’d never be able to catch up with him on the track no matter how hard you train, you can still steal his training regimen to get some next-level results for yourself.

Train Like A Champion

Although Bolt would likely be able to give a cheetah a run for its money even without ever stepping foot inside a gym, his workout routine certainly helps take his performance to the next level. But despite what some might think, there are no mystical training methods that Bolt credits as the secret to his success.

“There are no secrets,” he says. “You just have to develop strength, power, acceleration, and technique.”

So how can we mere mortals develop strength, power, acceleration, and technique like Bolt? The Lightning Bolt Workout is a great way to start seeing some fantastic results. This workout consists of three specific moves at its core and focuses on helping a runner develop explosive power.

1. Bunny hops

YouTube

5 sets of 20 reps

Holding a kettlebell, start by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms hanging in front of you with a kettlebell in hand. Then, squat down, and explosively spring up, pushing against the resistance of your body along with the added weight of the kettlebell. As soon as you land, quickly repeat the jump for the remainder of the prescribed reps.

2. Box jumps

YouTube

4 sets of 8 reps

Begin in a squatting position with your hands on your hips. Then, using an appropriately-sized box based on your experience, jump explosively from the squatting position into the air, landing on your feet on the box. As soon as you’ve landed, jump back down into the starting squat position and repeat for the prescribed number of repetitions.

3. Bounding

YouTube

3 of sets 10 reps

Starting in the standing position, you’ll move quickly into a semi-squat position before immediately springing out of the squat and jumping for length. Swing your arms aggressively to power your body through the air.

Stretch Those Muscles To Boost Your Speed

Nick Webb / Wikimedia Commons

Strength and plyometric training with the exercises already mentioned are critical for any acceleration sport like sprinting. But it’s critical not to overlook the importance of flexibility work as well.

According to Bolt, “Flexibility helps with stride length, as does core stability to hold the hips in a good position. Usually when the hips drop the stride gets shorter.”

YouTube

There are a number of stretches that are powerful for stretching the hip flexors which help with stride length. One of the most effective stretches that Bolt himself has likely used as part of his flexibility program is the Frog stretch, a common pose often found in yoga. Illustrated in the picture above, this stretch begins on knees that are fully bent and beneath the butt, with forearms resting at a 90-degree angle in front of the body. From the starting position, you walk the body forward to really intensify the stretch and really enhance your flexibility.

3. Bounding

3 of sets 10 reps

Starting in the standing position, you’ll move quickly into a semi-squat position before immediately springing out of the squat and jumping for length. Swing your arms aggressively to power your body through the air.

Stretch Those Muscles To Boost Your Speed

Strength and plyometric training with the exercises already mentioned are critical for any acceleration sport like sprinting. But it’s critical not to overlook the importance of flexibility work as well.

According to Bolt, “Flexibility helps with stride length, as does core stability to hold the hips in a good position. Usually when the hips drop the stride gets shorter.”
