After retiring from athletics, Jamaican sprinter and eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt now looks to conquer soccer. Bolt mentioned he would like to become a soccer player on numerous occasions before, and now he is doing something about it. The 31-year-old revealed that he will have a trial with German top-flight club Borussia Dortmund in March, adding that the trials will determine the course of his further career.
“In March we’re going to do trials with Dortmund and that will determine what I do with that career, which way it goes.” – said Bolt in an interview with the Daily Express. “If they say I’m good, and that I need a bit of training, I’ll do it.“
Bolt may look to start his career in soccer with Dortmund, but his final goal is to play for Manchester United, the team he supports for a long time.
“One of my biggest dreams is to sign for Manchester United.” – he added. “If Dortmund say I’m good enough, I’ll crack on and train hard. I’ve spoken to Alex Ferguson and I told him he needs to put in a good word. He told me if I get fit and ready, he will see what he can do.“
Due to his numerous achievements, Usain Bolt is considered to be the greatest sprinter of all times. He currently holds the World Records for 100 meters and 200 meters sprint discipline, while also having a world record in 4 × 100 meters relay which he shares with Yohan Blake, Michael Frater, and Nesta Carter. Alongside eight Olympic gold medals, he won 17 more in various international competitions. His last competition was 2017’s World Championships in which he underperformed, winning only a bronze medal in 100 meters sprint and was unable to finish 4 × 100 meters relay after suffering an injury, which resulted in disqualification of the entire Jamaican team.
