Konrad de la Fuente, who currently renewed his contract with the prestigious European side FC Barcelona, has big dreams when it comes to the future of the US Men’s National Team and international glory.

De la Fuente, who currently plays as a winger for Barca’s top youth team at the age of 18, expressed in an interview with ESPN that his goal is to win a World Cup with his country in the future.

“My goal with the national team is to win a World Cup,” said de la Fuente. “That’s my personal goal. Everyone has their own and, for me, it’s to win a World Cup. I definitely think it can happen. If we continue to grow in our clubs in Europe, I think we can do something special.”

There is currently an unprecedented number of young Americans playing for prestigious European clubs, including Christian Pulisic at Chelsea and Sergino Dest at Ajax.

De la Fuente has yet to make his debut with the senior national team, nor has he played for the senior club team in Barcelona. He, however, was one of the stars of the USMNT U-20 team that reached the World Cup quarter-finals last year.

American soccer is poised to take a step forward soon, and with ambitious goals like de la Fuente’s, it seems as if the players are aiming their targets especially high.

The United States Men’s National Team tried and tried until the end, but they came up just short of defending their Gold Cup title after losing 1-0 to Mexico at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sunday night.

The American men, who won the last edition of the tournament in 2017 with a 2-1 triumph over Jamaica, weren’t able to defend their title due to Mexico’s strong defense and goalkeeping.

The USMNT came out strong in the first half, creating several chances in the first 45 minutes of the match. Mexico keeper Guillermo Ochoa held his ground, though, preventing any of the Yankees’ chances from being converted.

The Americans went to the locker room at the half feeling unlucky not to be leading, but the momentum changed after the second half began.

Mexico began putting more and more pressure on the USMNT defense, creating several goal chances, keeping Zack Steffen busy.

After pushing hard for nearly 30 minutes, Mexico finally broke through when Wolves forward Raul Jimenez found LA Galaxy midfielder Jonathan dos Santos with a pretty backheel pass in the area. Dos Santos converted, giving Mexico a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

When the final whistle blew, El Tri claimed their 11th Gold Cup title since the competition’s inauguration in 1963.

The USMNT tried their best, but Mexico deservingly won the championship and staked their claim and CONCACAF’s strongest side.

The USMNT took care of business in the semifinal of the Gold Cup on Wednesday night, defeating Jamaica by a 3-1 final to advance to play for the right to take home the trophy for the second consecutive time.

Their win advances the team to Sunday’s final in Chicago against their eternal rivals in Mexico.

The US had little trouble with a Jamaica side that looked overmatched against the Americans at LP Field in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Yankees took an early lead after Weston McKennie scored his second goal of the tournament in only the 9th minute of the match. The Schalke 04 midfielder darted towards a ball that was played into the box by Reggie Cannon and beat the Jamaican goalie to put the US up 1-0.

The USMNT doubled its lead just after halftime when its star of the night, Chelsea midfielder Christian Pulisic, tapped in a ball that came lose after Andre Blake stopped a Jordan Morris shot.

Jamaica made things interesting for a moment after cutting the American lead to 2-1 after a Shamar Nicholson goal in the 69th minute, but Pulisic struck again near the end of regulation to put the US up 3-1 and remove all doubt.

Now, the Stars and Stripes will have the opportunity to win another Gold Cup title as they take on their biggest rivals in Mexico, unbeaten in the tournament, on Sunday in Chicago.

The US Men’s National Soccer team lost in a disappointing matchup with Jamaica in a tuneup for this summer’s Gold Cup.

The Stars and Bars dropped their match to the Caribbeans by a 0-1 final in a match played on home turf in Washington, DC.

The United States pressed Jamaica throughout the match, but their efforts were not ultimately rewarded with a goal.

Jamaica, on the other hand, scored a goal in the 60th minute to seal a victory with a shot by substitute Shamar Nicholson. This was all they needed in order to claim a confidence-boosting victory.

USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter was happy with his team’s effort on Wednesday, but recognized that it wasn’t enough, saying “Overall, the effort was okay, but we performed poorly tonight.”

A performance like Wednesday night’s was certainly not what the Americans were looking for heading into the Gold Cup.

The CONCACAF tournament kicks off on Wednesday, June 18th with a game against Guyana.

Fortunately for the USMNT, they have another chance to tune up on a Saturday before the tournament in another friendly match against Venezuela. They’ll look to sharpen up their tactics and get into a good rhythm before the Gold Cup, a tournament in which they are considered one of the favorites.

The US Men’s National Soccer Team put up a valiant fight in a 1-1 draw against Chile on Tuesday night.

The Americans took on Chile in a friendly match at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas. They were unable to take home a win, but they’ll be happy with their effort against one of South America’s top sides.

The only negative of the game was that Christian Pulisic, the star of the team, was injured in the 34th minute of the game.

He departed the game with a right quadriceps injury. The extent of the injury is still unknown and the team will be crossing its fingers that it isn’t serious.

Pulisic’s night started off better than it ended. He scored a goal in the 4th minute of the match to give the US an early lead.

The goal was a work of art, coming after he beat Chile’s defense and chipped the ball over Chilean keeper Gabriel Arias. Gyasi Zardes provided Pulisic with the assist.

Chile equalized only five minutes later with a 9th minute Óscar Opazo goal.

The win wraps up an international break for the team that saw a 1-0 win against Ecuador as well as Tuesday night’s draw. The USMNT’s next game will be a friendly against Venezuela on June 9th.
