Linebacker Bobby Wagner and the Los Angeles Rams have mutually agreed to part ways after one season. Wagner signed a five-year, $50 million deal with $20 million in guarantees in March 2022.

Following Wagner’s release, the Rams are set to free up $5 million in salary cap space; a crucial move since the team remains $13.7 million over the salary cap leading up to the new season. The team does, however, incur a $7.5 million dead money charge as a result of Wagner’s release.

Although the team could save $8 million by designating Wagner as a post-June 1 release, the savings won’t be credited to their cap until the summer.

Wagner joined the Rams after spending 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. Last season, Wagner posted 140 tackles, a career-high 6 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 5 passes defended in 17 games, earning himself second-team All-Pro honors in the process. This is the ninth time in his 11 NFL season that the linebacker was named an All-Pro. Impressively, Wagner has posted over 100 tackles in each of his seasons.

The Rams narrowly missed out on the opportunity to sign Wagner in 2012 when he entered the NFL Draft. While the Rams intended to draft him, they shifted him down to five spots, with the Seahawks swooping in to take him.

The Los Angeles Rams have appointed Mike LaFleur as their new offensive coordinator, the team revealed on Friday night. This comes after LaFleur left his previous position as offensive coordinator of the New York Jets while Liam Coen vacated the same position on the Rams’ team in search of a job at the Kentucky Wildcats.

Los Angeles will be hoping that LaFleur can help to improve their ability to move the ball down the field. In 2022, the team made 280.5 yards per game, the lowest in the league. They also came 27th in the NFL for points per game with 18.1.

Having won Super Bowl LVI last February, the Rams were unable to hit their stride over the past season after getting hit hard by an array of injury setbacks. Quarterback Matthew Stafford, along with wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson were all ruled out of action with season-ending injuries.

Prior to joining the Jets, LaFleur was the passing game coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers as well as wide receivers coach from 2017 until 2020.

The Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald has been ruled out of his team’s clash against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed on Friday. According to McVay, there is a strong possibility that the injury could see Donald remain on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.

Donald suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 12 during his team’s 10-26 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Soon after Donald’s injury, McVay announced that the team would monitor his progress on a weekly basis to determine when he could be considered fit enough to return to action.

McVay revealed on Friday that while Donald is making good progress in his recovery, he is unlikely to be cleared to play by the Rams’ medical staff before the conclusion of the season.

“Will he be fully cleared to be Aaron Donald?” McVay commented. “And if he is, then we talk to him and see. But if not, we’ll err on the side of being smarter. But obviously, he’s a guy that has certainly earned the right where you talk to him. But he’s not cleared yet and I don’t know that I see that changing in the next couple weeks.”

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been cleared to play in the game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday after being cleared of concussion protocol. Following his absence during the Rams’ 27-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 10, Stafford has been on the mend, becoming a full participant in the teams’ training all week.

Stafford entered concussion protocol on November 8 after the Rams’ Week 9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccanneers after the team’s medical staff determined that this was the “appropriate” action following an examination of the player. After the game, coach Sean McVay revealed that he did not see any indication during the game that Stafford had been dealing with concussion symptoms.

Although Stafford is listed as being available for Sunday’s game, McVay has confirmed that quarterback Bryce Perkins may back up Stafford against the Saints should the need arise. Fellow quarterback John Wolford, who played in Stafford’s place against the Cardinals last week, has been listed on the team’s injury report after suffering a neck injury.

Prior to entering concussion protocol, Stafford had completed 68.4% of his passes for 1,928 yards this season along with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions.

The Los Angeles Rams are Super Bowl champions once again. The Rams lifted the Vince Lombardi trophy after getting a narrow 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl LVI clash on Sunday night.

The Rams were overwhelming favorites entering the game thanks to their star-studded roster and the fact they were playing an inexperienced and young Cincinnati Bengals team. The LA team justified the prediction early in the game, racing to a 13-3 lead midway through the second quarter thanks to touchdown catches by Odell Beckham Jr. and Cooper Kupp.

The Bengals, however, found their footing before the end of the first half and cut the lead to 13-10. They continued the comeback in the third quarter, opening the period with a 75-yard touchdown connection between quarterback Joe Burrow and wideout Tee Higgins. Cincinnati’s defense then did their part, intercepting QB Matthew Stafford and setting up a field goal to make it 13-20.

The Rams made it 16-20 on the ensuing possession before the game turned into a defensive contest midway through the third quarter. Neither team managed to get their offense going resulting in seven consecutive punts.

It was the Rams who managed to put a coherent drive first, marching 79 yards down the field late in the fourth and scoring a touchdown to get ahead.

The Bengals received the ball once with just over a minute left on the clock, but the Rams defense forced a turnover on downs to effectively bring the game to an end and secure the Vince Lombardi trophy for their franchise.

“You got to be relentless,” said Rams’ Aaron Donald, who finished the game with two sacks. “You want something bad enough you’ve got to go get it. You know it was right in front of us … all offseason you work, you train, you got camp, you got a long season just for this one game. You know we the last team standing.”

The Los Angeles Rams’ offseason trade for Matthew Stafford seems to be paying off. Stafford came in strong on Sunday night and led the Rams to a 30-27 win over reigning Super Bowl champs the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with two passing touchdowns and one rushing TD. His 366 passing yards were the third-most in a single playoff game in the franchise’s history.

While the night finished victorious for the Rams and Stafford, it almost went the other way. Holding a 27-3 lead midway through the third quarter, the LA team became reckless and allowed Tom Brady to start one of his signature comebacks.

After a sluggish first part of the contest, Brady started connecting with his receivers, and the Bucs went on to score 24 unanswered points to tie the game, including three touchdowns and a field goal. Tampa Bay’s defense also played a crucial role, forcing three fumbles, including one in the red zone.

Following this scoring rampage by the Bucs, the Rams found themselves with the ball and 42 seconds to work with at their own 25 yards. However, this proved to be more than enough for Stafford, who arrived in LA from Detroit Lions in exchange for a package that included former first overall pick Jared Goff and two future first-rounders.

On the second play of the drive, Stafford found wideout Cooper Kupp for a 20-yard gain. The two connected once again on the next play, this time for a 44-yard gain. This set up a 30-yard field goal attempt that kicker Matt Gay converted as the time was running out to give his team a major win.

“It felt like that ball hung up for about 12 seconds,” said Rams head coach Sean McVay after the game. “But those guys did a great job. I thought Matthew Stafford was unbelievable throughout the whole day. Just his poise, his command, his demeanor, his decision-making.”

The Rams will now play the San Francisco 49ers, who upset the top-seeded Green Bay Packers, in the NFC Championship game next Sunday. The AFC Championship game will see the Super Bowl favorites Kansas City Chiefs playing the Cincinnati Bengals.

The LA Rams are quietly putting together a formidable season in 2020 and are getting their name back in the Super Bowl conversation. The confirmation of this came Monday night when the team went to Tampa Bay and beat the Buccaneers 27-24.

Entering the game as big underdogs, the Rams managed to impose their will on the Bucs early on. Jared Goff connected with Robert Woods for a touchdown in the Rams’ opening drive of the game, while the defense didn’t allow any points to Tampa in the first quarter.

Bucs bounced back in the second quarter with two straight touchdowns, forcing the Rams to play catch-up before halftime. Still, Goff and his offense kept their composure and managed to put 10 points on the board before the clock run out to keep their team ahead.

Things didn’t star very well for the Rams in the second half, as they had an interception and missed field goal in consecutive drives. Luckily for them, Bucs didn’t manage to capitalize on these mistakes and even returned the favor later on.

The fourth quarter saw the Rams’ offense struggling to put points on the board, as they managed only a field goal throughout the entire period. But the defense did their part, limiting Tampa Bay to just seven points and securing a 27-24 win for their side.

This win got the Rams to a 7-3 record and on top of the highly competitive NFC West. Buccaneers, on the other hand, are now 7-4 and sit one game behind New Orleans Saints in NFC South.

Rams are taking a new step in their efforts to re-establish themselves as a Los Angeles team.Β  After the franchise recently announced they are rebranding, the team now unveiled a new logo and colors.

Rams returned to LA in 2016, after spending 21 years in St. Louis, but kept the same colors and logo. Now the franchise decided it’s time to leave the St. Louis team in the past and focus on the future with a new look.

The navy blue, light gold, and white color scheme that Rams were recognizable for in the past decades is out of the window, making a place for royal blue and gold.

“The most exciting part of this for me, and I hope for Rams fans, is it blends the best of our pasts with what we believe is the best of our future,” said Rams’ chief operating officer Kevin Demoff in a statement. “I’m sure it will be a surprise, it will be change, but lots of things are and I think it’s a change that our fans will come to know and love over time.”

Rams will also have new uniforms and helmets, but those are set to be unveiled later this spring. The rebranding coincides with the team moving to a new stadium in 2020. The SoFi Stadium, believed to be worth $5 billion, will also be home to Los Angeles Chargers.

Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots will face in the Super Bowl LIII on February 4th, after winning their NFC and AFC Championship games. Both teams needed overtime to get the win, with the Rams edging out the New Orleans Saints with a Greg Zuerlein’s 57-yard field goal, while the Patriots got the OT win against the Kansas City Chiefs thanks to Rex Burkhead’s rushing touchdown.

This was the first time in NFL history that both the AFC and NFC Championship games went to OT.

Los Angeles Rams started their games against the New Orleans Saints being behind 13 points and actually never got the lead, managing to get the equalizer after Greg Zuerlein scored a 48-yard field goal 18 seconds before the end of the regular time. New Orleans had the first possession, but their quarterback Drew Brees threw an interception on 2nd & 16, which LA a chance to win the game with the next score. Rams got the ball to around 40-yards and decided to trust Zuerlein that he will manage to score from that distance.  The 31-year old Pro Bowler didn’t disappoint and secured his team the first Super Bowl appearance since 2001.

“It’s unbelievable, man. I can’t put it into words,”- said Goff. “The defense played the way they did to force it to overtime. The defense gets a pick and Greg makes a 57-yarder to win it. That was good from about 70. Unbelievable.”

New England Patriots, on the other hand, opened the game against the Kansas City Chiefs with a furious run, scoring 14 points in the first half and managing to keep their opponent scoreless. Chiefs, however, managed to find motivation in the second half, and thanks to Harrison Butker’s FG, sent the game in overtime. Still, that didn’t help a lot, since the Patriots got the ball first with Tom Brady leading a game-winning drive to give New England their third consecutive Super Bowl appearance.

“We knew it was going to be tough,” – said Brady. “Kansas are explosive, and they have been beating teams here all year. It was awesome, what a game.”
