New York City FC isn’t willing to give any discounts to teams interested in their talented forward Valentin “Taty” Castellanos. According to ESPN’s Rob Dawson, the MLS side is firm on their asking price, which is believed to be €15 million.

So far, there have been no teams willing to pay that price for Castellanos. However, that might change at some point, especially considering Castellanos is playing well while on loan with La Liga side Girona. The 24-year-old Argentinean has 11 goals in 29 games and has recently scored four times against Real Madrid.

The NYCFC had multiple opportunities to sell Castellanos, even last summer. However, the team didn’t receive a satisfactory offer and opted to allow the player to leave for Europe in hopes that good games could get him more exposure and raise his value.

So far, it is unclear which club might end up making a run for “Taty” Castellanos, but several Premier League teams are believed to be monitoring him. Overachievers Brighton is believed to be one of them.

Taty Castellanos initially joined NYCFC in 2018 on a loan before the MLS club made the move permanent in 2019. Castellanos scored 59 goals in 134 MLS matches while helping NYCFC win MLS Cup. He took home the MLS Golden Boot award in 2021 and was named to the MLS Best XI team the same year.

USMNT’s midfielder Richard Ledezma could make a surprising return to the U.S. ahead of the 2023 MLS season. According to MLS insider Tom Bogert, New York City FC approached Dutch side PSV Eindhoven with an offer to take Ledezma on loan.

Bogert adds that the talks between the two clubs are in the early stages and that nothing has been agreed upon yet. But the encouraging news for the MLS side is that the player has an interest in the move.

Despite starting his career with Real Salt Lake, Ledezma never played an official MLS game. He made his professional debut for Salt Lake’s USL affiliate Real Monarchs in 2018 and secured a move to PSV shortly after.

Ledezma got his first taste of European soccer with PSV’s reserves Jong PSV, but some good performances earned him a promotion to the first team during the early part of the 2020-21 season. Unfortunately, the Phoenix native tore his ACL in December 2020 and has since struggled to secure a meaningful role with the Eredivisie powerhouse.

Despite being recruited by Mexico, Richard Ledezma opted to represent the United States on the international level. He made his senior debut with USMNT in 2020, entering as a substitute in a 6-2 win over Panama and contributing with two assists.

Ronny Deila is leaving MLS after three years in charge of New York City FC. Deila’s new destination is Belgium, where he’ll take over as the head coach of Standard Liege.

NYCFC confirmed the news on Sunday while announcing that assistant Nick Cushing will be installed as the team’s interim head coach. Cushing, who signed a new deal as part of the package, will reportedly have a chance to keep the job long-term if he performs well in his new role.

Deila, who previously coached Scottish powerhouse Celtic to two consecutive domestic titles, was named New York City FC’s head coach ahead of the 2020 season. After an inconsistent first season in charge, the Norwegian led the club to its first MLS Cup title in 2021. He leaves NYCFC at the top spot in Eastern Conference with an 8-2-3 record.

“We know this was not a decision Ronny took lightly, but we understand his desire to return to Europe and be closer to home,” said NYCFC in a statement. “He has been a true leader since joining the club, and we wish him well for the next challenge in his career.”

Standard Liege has been Belgium’s champion 10 times while also winning eight cup trophies. However, the club struggled in recent seasons and had a disastrous campaign in 2021-22 that saw them finish 14th out of 18 clubs on the standings.

Things are not looking good for New York City FC ahead of a crucial MLS is Back Tournament match against Orlando City. The club’s head coach Ronny Deila confirmed that their All-Star midfielder Maxi Moralez will be out for this match and is likely facing a lengthy break.

Moralez, who is one of NYCFC’s best players, injured his quad during the 1-0 defeat against Philadelphia Union last week. The full extent of the 33-year-old’s injury will be known after an MRI test, but Deila isn’t optimistic about the outcome.

“As it looks now, he’s out for the game and [could be] out for many weeks,” Delia told reporters in a conference call over the weekend. “Of course, that’s a big setback for us.”

Maxi Moralez has emerged as a key playmaker for New York City FC since joining the club in 2017 from León. Moralez was especially efficient in the last two seasons, racking up 16 goals and 42 assists combined. He has one MLS All-Star appearance and one MLS Best XI selection.

After losing against Philadelphia, NYCFC now must get the win against Orlando City in order to keep alive their hopes of advancing further in the tournament.  Orlando, on the other hand, could secure the first place in the group if they get the win.

NYCFC concluded their head coaching search on Monday when they announced that Norwegian manager Ronny Deila will take over the team for the 2020 MLS season.  Deila, who previously coached Scottish powerhouse Celtic, will replace Domenec Torrent as New York’s boss.

Torrent left NYCFC in November, despite finishing at the top of Eastern Conference in his first season with the team. Several reputable names have been linked with the job since, including former Feyenoord boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst, but they ended up settling for Deila.

“I’m so excited now to get started with preseason and get going with the team,” said Deila in a statement given to ESPN. “This opportunity is with a fantastic club, in a fantastic city, and also, it’s an opportunity to achieve something, to win something. It’s making me almost have goosebumps. I’m really looking forward to getting going, to get started, to get to know the players, and to get the season started.”

Ronny Deila spent his early coaching career in his native Norway, where he led Strømsgodset to Norwegian Cup and the Norwegian League trophies. Deila took over Celtic in 2014, and had two dominating seasons with the club, winning the national titles and one Scottish League Cup.

Deila left Scotland in 2016, returning to his homeland and taking over Vålerenga. Here he hasn’t had the same success, as he failed to win a single trophy during his tenure with the team struggling.

After parting ways with Domenec Torrent last week, NYCFC is beginning its search for a new manager in England. According to several reports, the next head coach of NYCFC might be Giovanni van Bronckhorst, former Dutch star Giovanni van Bronckhorst and current member of Manchester City’s organization.

Van Bronckhorst joined Man City this season in an unspecified role to “develop his coaching skills and learn about different activities at the football club.” Many reports from England suggested that the organization is preparing him to take over from Pep Guardiola at some point.

Since NYCFC and City belong to the same ownership group, the reports say that van Bronckhorst might be given a chance to prove himself in MLS before coaching in Premier League.

This wouldn’t be unusual, as the last two NYCFC managers came from Man City. Patrick Vieira, the team’s head coach from 2016 to 2018, played with City and worked with their academy. Torrent, on the other hand, was Guardiola’s right hand and worked with him in all of his coaching stops.

During his career, Giovanni van Bronckhorst played with Feyenoord, Rangers, Arsenal, and Barcelona. He won 14 trophies including one Premier League title, two La Liga titles, and Champions League.

Following the end of his playing career, van Bronckhorst joined Feyenoord’s coaching staff before taking over the team’s managerial position in 2015. He won five trophies, including one Eredivisie title before departing the club at the end of the 2018/19 season.

NYCFC announced on Thursday that they have signed Argentinian midfielder Maximiliano Moralez to a two-year extension. Moralez will remain club’s Designated Player under this new deal as well. The financial terms of the deal remained undisclosed.

Moralez is coming off an excellent 2019 MLS regular season, having made 28 appearances in which he scored seven goals and provided impressive 20 assists. The 32-year-old also made his first MLS All-Star appearance this year.

“We’re very excited to have Maxi extend his contract with NYCFC,” – said NYCFC’s sporting director Claudio Reyna. “Since he joined our Club three years ago, his contributions on and off the pitch have been clear to everyone. He’s a role model, a top professional, and the best compliment I can give him is that he makes every player around him better.”

Moralez came to MLS in 2017, signing for NYCFC after his contract with Argentina Superliga side Leon expired. Since then, he made 89 appearances with the club, scoring 20 goals and dishing 45 assists. He also played five postseason games, scoring once and having two assists.

“I’m very happy to extend my contract with the Club for two more years,” – said Moralez after inking the deal. “I want to thank the Club and the fans for letting me be a part of this team. The decision was easy because we are a family, and when you feel that way, it makes it easier. To the fans, thank you for all the support you have given me. I hope you continue to enjoy watching us playing game after game as we try to accomplish our goal of becoming champions.”

Maxi Moralez spent the most of his early professional career in native Argentina, before signing with Italian Seria A side Atalanta in 2011. He spent five years in Italy, playing 147 games in which he scored 20 goals and had 25 assists. Moralez also has one appearance for Argentina’s national team.

NYCFC is making sure that their defensive line remains strong in 2019. The club announced on Thursday that they had signed defensive midfielder Alexander Ring, center back Alexander Callens and goalkeeper Sean Johnson to new contracts. The terms of the deals were not made public, but according to the NYCFC, the trio will remain with the team “for 2019 and beyond.”

All three are entering the prime years of their careers, so it’s fantastic to keep consistency and stability within the team,” – said NYCFC sporting director Claudio Reyna in a statement. “It’s exciting news for all of us to tie them down to long-term deals.

To be able to keep these three players allows us to keep consistent voices in the locker room, players who know what this Club is about and the culture that we’ve built.” – he added.

This certainly represents excellent news for NYCFC fans, considering the fact that all three players have played a significant role in the club’s recent success in MLS.

Alexander Ring established himself as one of the best midfielders in the league since arriving in 2017 which was recognized with All-Star selection this year. He played a total of 57 games for the club and scored two goals alongside four assists.

I am very happy with the way the club and the fans have taken care of me and my family,” – said Ring after inking the new deal. “The way they have embraced us — it wasn’t a big decision for me to continue here and sign with this great club.”

Alexander Callens and Sean Johnson also joined NYFC in 2017 and went on to become indispensable members of starting 11.

NYCFC already clinched a spot in MLS playoffs this season, finding themselves on the third spot in the Eastern Conference with two more games left in the regular season.
