After parting ways with Domenec Torrent last week, NYCFC is beginning its search for a new manager in England. According to several reports, the next head coach of NYCFC might be Giovanni van Bronckhorst, former Dutch star Giovanni van Bronckhorst and current member of Manchester City’s organization.

Van Bronckhorst joined Man City this season in an unspecified role to “develop his coaching skills and learn about different activities at the football club.” Many reports from England suggested that the organization is preparing him to take over from Pep Guardiola at some point.

Since NYCFC and City belong to the same ownership group, the reports say that van Bronckhorst might be given a chance to prove himself in MLS before coaching in Premier League.

This wouldn’t be unusual, as the last two NYCFC managers came from Man City. Patrick Vieira, the team’s head coach from 2016 to 2018, played with City and worked with their academy. Torrent, on the other hand, was Guardiola’s right hand and worked with him in all of his coaching stops.

During his career, Giovanni van Bronckhorst played with Feyenoord, Rangers, Arsenal, and Barcelona. He won 14 trophies including one Premier League title, two La Liga titles, and Champions League.

Following the end of his playing career, van Bronckhorst joined Feyenoord’s coaching staff before taking over the team’s managerial position in 2015. He won five trophies, including one Eredivisie title before departing the club at the end of the 2018/19 season.
