NYCFC is making sure that their defensive line remains strong in 2019. The club announced on Thursday that they had signed defensive midfielder Alexander Ring, center back Alexander Callens and goalkeeper Sean Johnson to new contracts. The terms of the deals were not made public, but according to the NYCFC, the trio will remain with the team “for 2019 and beyond.”

All three are entering the prime years of their careers, so it’s fantastic to keep consistency and stability within the team,” – said NYCFC sporting director Claudio Reyna in a statement. “It’s exciting news for all of us to tie them down to long-term deals.

To be able to keep these three players allows us to keep consistent voices in the locker room, players who know what this Club is about and the culture that we’ve built.” – he added.

This certainly represents excellent news for NYCFC fans, considering the fact that all three players have played a significant role in the club’s recent success in MLS.

Alexander Ring established himself as one of the best midfielders in the league since arriving in 2017 which was recognized with All-Star selection this year. He played a total of 57 games for the club and scored two goals alongside four assists.

I am very happy with the way the club and the fans have taken care of me and my family,” – said Ring after inking the new deal. “The way they have embraced us — it wasn’t a big decision for me to continue here and sign with this great club.”

Alexander Callens and Sean Johnson also joined NYFC in 2017 and went on to become indispensable members of starting 11.

NYCFC already clinched a spot in MLS playoffs this season, finding themselves on the third spot in the Eastern Conference with two more games left in the regular season.
