After drafting Anthony Richardson with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts found themselves with four quarterbacks on their roster. The team decided to thin the QB room on Friday, releasing veteran Nick Foles.

Foles leaves the Colts after spending one season with the franchise. He made two starts in 2022, throwing for 224 yards, zero touchdowns, and four interceptions.

The move doesn’t come as a surprise, considering that Foles joined the Colts last year to team up with head coach Frank Reich. But with Reich being fired last season, there was no motivation for Foles or the new coaching staff in Indy to continue working together.

The Colts are left with Richardson, Gardner Minshew, and Sam Ehlinger as options for the quarterback position. Minshew, as the most accomplished among the three, is expected to get the nod as Week 1 starter. However, many believe it is only a question of time before Richardson gets the opportunity under center.

Foles, on the other hand, might pursue a new backup role somewhere else. The Carolina Panthers are one option, considering Reich is now the head coach there, and they have a rookie QB in need of mentorship. It also wouldn’t be surprising if the 34-year-old player retires, which is something he considered in the past.

Quarterback Nick Foles signed a contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday—a move that will once again see him work with coach Frank Reich. While the team refused to disclose the terms of the contract, sources revealed that Foles had signed a two-year deal with the team.

Foles previously worked under Reick in 2017, when Reich served as the offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles team that went on to win that season’s Super Bowl championship.

According to reports, the Eagles were eager to re-sign Foles before he concluded his deal with the Colts. After considering Foles, the Eagles opted to remain with their current quarterback lineup, particularly as talk of the potential departure of Gardner Minshew from the team was dismissed.

In a move corresponding to Foles’ arrival, the Colts decided to release quarterback James Morgan from his contract.

Set to play backup to starting quarterback James Morgan, Foles faces competition from 2021 sixth-round draft pick Sam Ehlinger and undrafted free agent Jack Coan.

Prior to signing with the Colts, Foles was recently made a free agent after being released by the Chicago Bears on May 1. This move was expected after the Bears signed free agent quarterback Trevor Siemian.

The Chicago Bears have parted ways with veteran quarterback Nick Foles. The team released Foles over the weekend after unsuccessfully trying to trade the player since the last offseason.

According to Foles’ agent Justin Schulman, both parties agreed upon the move to allow Foles to find a new team.

“Ryan Poles (Bears general manager) did the classy thing, and Nick appreciates it,” said Schulman.

Foles arrived in Chicago ahead of the 2020 NFL season as a veteran who could challenge starting QB Mitch Trubisky. The Super Bowl LII MVP did exactly that, taking Trubisky’s job midway through the campaign. However, this didn’t exactly translate to wins for the Bears as they were 2-5 in Foles’ seven starts under center.

To start the 2021 season, the Bears revamped their QB room. Trubisky was gone, in were the rookie Justin Fields and veteran Andy Dalton. Foles was demoted to third-string QB and only played in Week 16 after Fields and Dalton both went down with injuries. The 33-year-old player led the Bears to a 25–24 win over the Seattle Seahawks, throwing for 250 yards and a touchdown.

It is unclear what kind of market Nick Foles will have now that he’s a free agent. It wouldn’t be surprising if some team jumped on the chance to add him as a safety blanket, although it is hard to see him getting consideration for a starting job anytime soon.

Foles built his resume as a super backup, stepping in for injured Carson Wentz towards the end of the 2017 season and leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl win. He also played for the Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Jacksonville Jaguars. His best regular season came in 2013 when he threw for 2,891 yards and 27 touchdowns in 10 starts.

It’s time for a new man under center in Chicago. The Bears’ head coach Matt Nagy announced on Monday that veteran Nick Foles will be the team’s starting quarterback going forward, while 2017’s No.2 overall pick Mitch Trubinsky is demoted to a backup role.

The announcement comes after Foles stepped in for Trubinsky during the third quarter of the Week 3 game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. The 2017’s Super Bowl MVP ended up leading the Bears from a 16-point deficit to a 30-26 win, throwing for 188 and three touchdowns.

“We got up this morning and went through the tape, and at the end of it, we decided that we’re going to start Foles as a starter against Indianapolis,” said Nagy during a Zoom call with reporters. “Both quarterbacks are aware of that.”

Nagy underlined that Foles won’t just start in Week 4 against Indianapolis Colts, but will also have the job past that.

“For us, it’s never easy when you go into these types of situations,” he added. “I want to credit both of those guys in yesterday’s situation for being really supportive of each other this whole time.”

Mitch Trubinsky’s job was in jeopardy for some time now due to poor showings in past seasons, and it was obvious he will have to play the lights out if he wants to keep being the starter. Trubinsky managed to hold off Nick Foles in training camp and had promising first two games, but the 26-year-old couldn’t keep up the production.

It is obvious that Nagy decided to ride the hot hand and will continue to do so until Chicago wins. However, if Foles also doesn’t show up every week, expect Trubinsky to get another shot.

After adding former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles in March, Chicago Bears now have one of the most intriguing quarterback situations. Still, it appears that last year’s starter Mitchell Trubisky won’t let Foles’ arrival shake his confidence as he believes that the Bears is still his team.

Trubisky staged a disappointing season in 2019, failing to propel the talented Bears’ team to the playoffs. This prompted the Bears to put some pressure on him by signing a veteran competition in Foles. And it appears that this is doing the trick.

In his first interview in almost six months, Trubinsky told reporters that Foles’ arrival provided him with motivation.

“I think I was kind of pissed off in a good way. I’ve been motivated ever since,” said Trubinsky. “I think it’s going to be a good competition. Foles has had a crazy career as well so it’s been cool having him in our room talking ball. I know we’re going to push each other.”

Despite the organization’s lack of faith in him, Trubinsky still feels like he’s the main guy in Chicago.

“But I still feel like this is my team and I’m excited for the competition and just get back on the field with my guys and show everybody what I can still do and how hard I’ve been working this offseason to help the Bears win games this year,” he added.

Mitchell Trubisky, who was the second overall pick in 2017, completed 63.2 percent of his passes last season, throwing for 3,138 yards and 17 touchdowns. The Bears finished the year with an 8-8 record, not enough to make it out of NFC North.

Nick Foles was limited to only four games with Jacksonville Jaguars last season due to a shoulder injury. In four starts, he threw for 736 yards and three touchdowns.

When Chicago Bears traded for veteran quarterback Nick Foles, most people thought that fourth-round pick was a steep price to pay to Jacksonville Jaguars. But, as it turns out, without giving a fourth-rounder, Bears wouldn’t have their man.

The Athletic’s Dan Pompei recently reported that Bears were not the only team that was in the race for Foles. According to Pompei, Jags didn’t want to trade the 2017’s Super Bowl MVP this season, wanting to give him one more chance after an injury-plagued 2019. However, they surprisingly found out that there were a number of teams willing to give up assets to acquire him.

Reportedly, there were several other NFL teams who were in the run for Foles this offseason, looking to acquire a reliable signal-caller. Among the most serious contenders were Indianapolis Colts, but they ended up deciding that a fourth-rounder would be too much to give up considering Foles’ massive contract. Colts ended up signing Phillip Rivers instead.

Chicago Bears didn’t have those concerns in part for Nick Foles’ decision to reconstruct his deal. Foles agreed to make the two remaining years of his four-year, $88 million contract into voidable years and basically use 2020 as a prove-it season.

Bears previously made it clear that Foles will get to compete for the starting spot in the offseason with their 2017’s No.2 pick Mitchell Trubisky.

The Chicago Bears will have a new quarterback this season after trading for Nick Foles. The deal will send a fourth-round pick in the upcoming draft to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Foles has had a lot of ups and downs in his career and has been part of six trades. Most of his career has been spent playing backup QB, although he has shined when given the opportunity. He will always be remembered in Philadelphia for leading the Eagles to their first Super Bowl championship while replacing the injured Carson Wentz.

Foles was signed to a hefty contract by the Jaguars after beating the Patriots in Super Bowl LII and playing well again in two playoff games the year after. The former Super Bowl MVP will cost the Jags $18.75 million in dead money in 2020. The trade means that Jacksonville will go with second-year Gardner Minshew as their starting quarterback for the upcoming season.

It’s uncertain if the Bears brought in Foles to be their starter, or if they acquired him to give some veteran competition to their struggling QB Mitchell Trubisky. Either way, he will be a big boost to Chicago’s offense which greatly underperformed this past season.

It seems like “Minshew Mania” is over in Jacksonville, at least for now.

Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach Doug Marrone announced on Tuesday that the Nick Foles will be the team’s starting quarterback moving forward, with rookie Gardner Minshew assuming the backup role.

Foles suffered a broken collarbone in Week 1 and landed on the injured reserve, which opened the opportunity for Minshew to start in the past eight weeks. Minshew put a nice run during that period, leading the team to 4-4 record, but that wasn’t enough for him to remain a starter once Foles recovered.

“I made a decision on the quarterbacks, and Nick will be our starting quarterback going forward,” – Marrone told reporters. “Obviously [it’s] my decision. I worked hard on it, came to it.”

According to Marrone, the team’s offense was suited to Foles in the offseason he believes that the Jags have a better chance of having success with him.

“Looking back at all the work we put in and I just go back to the experience of what he’s going to be able to do,” – he added. “I think that’s going to give us the ability, a better chance of winning right now.”

After leading Philadelphia Eagles to Super Bowl win in 2017 and Divisional playoffs in 2018, Nick Foles signed a four-year, $88 million contract with the Jaguars in March.

In his first start for Jacksonville in Week 1, Foles completed 5 of 8 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown before exiting the game with an injury. His next game will be against Indianapolis Colts in Week 11.

The opening Sunday of NFL football couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who lost their season opener 40-26 at home to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Not only have they started off their season 0-1, but they’ve lost their starting quarterback for an extended period of time.

The Super Bowl LII MVP is expected to miss at least several weeks after breaking the bone in his left shoulder. It leaves the Jaguars, one of the possible division leaders in the wide-open AFC South, in a tough position as they look to return to the playoffs after a disappointing 2018 season.

Foles was given a four-year, $88 million contract by the team in March as they looked to get past the quarterbacking woes that have doomed them in many an occasion in the past.

The University of Arizona alum, who owns a career 26-18 record as a starter in the regular season and has thrown 68 touchdowns and only 33 interceptions in his career, was expected to make the team’s offense more dynamic and high-scoring.

Now, the team will have to turn to inexperienced recent acquisition Josh Dobbs or to rookie QB Gardner Minshew as they wait for Foles to recover.

Nick Foles didn’t have to wait long to find a new team after being let go by the Philadelphian Eagles last week.

Although the official NFL free agency period doesn’t start until next week, the Jaguars have made the decision to sign Foles and release current starting quarterback Blake Bortles.

Jacksonville will make the signing official next week once they can sign Foles.

After a memorable two years as Carson Wentz’s backup with the Eagles, Foles will finally have the opportunity to take the reigns of a team and serve as starting QB.

Foles memorably led Philadelphia to its first Super Bowl title in 2018 after filling in during the playoffs for an injured Wentz.

The University of Arizona alum led the Birds on a memorable run, which ended with their defeat of the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. Foles was named the game’s MVP.

Jacksonville will be Foles’ 4th NFL team since making his debut in 2012. He has previously played for the Eagles, Rams, and Chiefs.

Jacksonville’s decision to release Bortles does not come as a surprise. The former 8th overall pick in the NFL Draft was maddeningly inconsistent with the Jags, and is largely to blame for the team’s disappointing 2018 season.

The Jaguars hope that Foles will be the answer to their quarterbacking woes.
