Nick Foles didn’t have to wait long to find a new team after being let go by the Philadelphian Eagles last week.

Although the official NFL free agency period doesn’t start until next week, the Jaguars have made the decision to sign Foles and release current starting quarterback Blake Bortles.

Jacksonville will make the signing official next week once they can sign Foles.

After a memorable two years as Carson Wentz’s backup with the Eagles, Foles will finally have the opportunity to take the reigns of a team and serve as starting QB.

Foles memorably led Philadelphia to its first Super Bowl title in 2018 after filling in during the playoffs for an injured Wentz.

The University of Arizona alum led the Birds on a memorable run, which ended with their defeat of the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. Foles was named the game’s MVP.

Jacksonville will be Foles’ 4th NFL team since making his debut in 2012. He has previously played for the Eagles, Rams, and Chiefs.

Jacksonville’s decision to release Bortles does not come as a surprise. The former 8th overall pick in the NFL Draft was maddeningly inconsistent with the Jags, and is largely to blame for the team’s disappointing 2018 season.

The Jaguars hope that Foles will be the answer to their quarterbacking woes.
