The New York Knicks acquired forward OG Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors, the team announced on Saturday. This trade sees the Knicks send RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and a 2024 second-round pick to the Raptors. The Knicks will also receive forward Precious Achiuwa and guard Malachi Flynn.

Anunoby has long been a target of the Knicks, who are now looking to re-sign him as a free agent this summer, sources have claimed. The Knicks strongly believe that the forward will fit in well alongside Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle.

“OG’s complete offensive game and ability to defend multiple positions will enhance our team on both ends of the court,” Knicks President Leon Rose said during his announcement of the player’s arrival. This season, Anunoby has averaged 15.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.0 steals per game for the Raptors. Last year, Anunoby ranked second in defensive half-court matchups against All-Stars, data from ESPN Stats & Information showed.

The Atlanta Hawks are in the midst of another disappointing season and are expected to be sellers at the NBA trade deadline. The player they are reportedly open to moving is All-Star point guard Dejounte Murray, who is already attracting interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania recently discussed the Lakers’ trade targets and mentioned Murray as a player of interest. According to Charania, Murray represents an alternative for the LA team if their pursuit of Chicago Bulls’ Zach LaVine doesn’t come to fruition.

The one issue for the Lakers is that they lack draft assets to present the Hawks with a credible offer that doesn’t include standout shooting guard Austin Reaves.

On the other hand, Ian Begley of SNY reports that Murray is a target for the Knicks. The New York team already tried to get Murray before the San Antonio Spurs sent him to Atlanta during the 2022 offseason. They still have interest in the 27-year-old player, viewing him as an ideal fit alongside their guard Jalen Brunson.

If the Knicks decide to make a run for Murray, they will have no trouble matching the Hawks’ asking price. The Knicks have a surplus of draft picks they gained in previous trades while also being able to sweeten the offer with several young players.

Murray is averaging 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game this season. The Hawks currently find themselves at No. 11 in the Eastern Conference with a 12-17 record.

The New York Knicks are turning to a familiar face to help them weather the absence of center Mitchell Robinson. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Knicks agreed to a one-year contract with veteran Taj Gibson on Wednesday.

Gibson signed a one-year deal with the Washington Wizards in the offseason but was waived by the franchise before the 2023-24 campaign started. The 38-year-old player averaged 3.4 points and 1.4 rebounds last season.

In New York, Gibson will reunite with head coach Tom Thibodeau for the fourth time. The pair previously crossed paths at the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Knicks. Gibson’s previous stint with the Knicks lasted for three seasons and saw him average 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds.

While Gibson is entering his twilight basketball years, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Thibodeau decided to bring him in. The Knicks head coach spoke numerous times about his appreciation for Gibson’s professionalism as well as his ability to be a leader in the locker room and on the floor.

However, the New York team will also require Gibson this time around to make some contributions on the floor as well. The Knicks lost Robinson to an ankle injury this week, and their starting center might be out for up to three months.

Robinson was injured during the Knicks’ 133-123 loss to the Boston Celtics on Friday night, which saw him swiftly ruled out of Monday night’s game against the Toronto Raptors. He is set to be reevaluated after eight to ten weeks of rehabilitation.

So far this season, Robinson has averaged 6.2 points on 59.2 percent shooting, 1.3 blocks, and a team-leading 10.3 rebounds in 21 games this season. The New York Knicks found themselves trailing 21 points late in the third quarter of Friday night’s game against the Miami Heat. But unlike some other Knicks teams in the past, this one wasn’t about to give up.

After Heat’s superstar Jimmy Butler converted a free throw to make it 83-62 with 3:40 left in the third quarter, the Knicks decided they had enough. Guard Immanuel Quickley made two three-pointers while the New York team collectively stepped up their defensive intensity to stop allowing easy points.

The fourth quarter saw a completely different Knicks team, as they outscored the Heat by 18 points to claim a 98-100 victory. Quickley scored 14 out of his 20 points during the comeback stretch while R.J. Barrett and Jalen Brunson contributed eight each.

“It’s a decision to mentally check out or not,” Quickley said after the game. “It’s a decision to keep fighting. It’s a decision to tell yourself, ‘You got to keep fighting,’ no matter what.

This was an important win for the Knicks, as it kept them alive in the NBA’s in-season tournament. They also got a bit of revenge on the Heat after Miami eliminated them in the second round of the 2023 NBA playoffs.

The Knicks are currently at No.6 in the Eastern Conference with a 9-6 record. The Heat are one spot ahead at 10-6.

James Harden made his long-anticipated debut for the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night against the New York Knicks. But despite delivering a solid performance, the former NBA MVP couldn’t help his new team to avoid a 97-111 loss.

The Clippers made a blockbuster trade for Harden earlier this month, adding him to a star-studded lineup that also has Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Russell Westbrook. Each of the four stars scored in double digits against the Knicks, but it was obvious they would need time to get comfortable playing together.

However, Harden wasn’t discouraged by the fact that the Clippers came up short in his debut for the franchise, saying that this team has “unlimited possibilities”.

“I feel kind of weird out there,” Harden told reporters after the game. “But just not really having a preseason game or an opportunity to participate in the full training camp or none of that. It was just [being] out there and just basically winging it. Try to go off my basketball instincts and what I’ve been doing for the last few years or whatnot. I just went out there and playing and thinking the game and trying to make the game easier for everybody else.”

Harden finished the night with 17 points and six assists, and Westbrook added 17 points, four assists, and four rebounds. Leonard had 18 points, while George struggled to shoot the ball but still got 10 points, seven boards, and three steals.

The Clippers are 3-3 to start the 2023-24 campaign and will get another look at their new lineup against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.

The New York Knicks liked what they saw from shooting guard Josh Hart in his limited time with the franchise last season. The team now wants Hart to stick around for a while longer, with the two sides reportedly finalizing a new contract.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Hart will ink a four-year extension that is worth $81 million. The 28-year-old player will now be under contract with the Knicks for the next five seasons, being set to earn $12.96 million in base salary in 2023-24.

The Knicks landed Hart at the trade deadline from the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the four-team trade that also included the Philadelphia 76ers and Charlotte Hornets. The Villanova product proved to be a great addition to the New York team from the very start, averaging 10.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while also bringing a defensive intensity head coach Tom Thibodeau appreciates.

Hart entered the league as a late first-round selection by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2017 NBA Draft. He spent the first two years of his NBA career in LA before joining the New Orleans Pelicans as part of the trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Lakers. The Pelicans traded him to the Blazers midway through the 2021-22 season as part of the package that landed them CJ McCollum.

Hart is averaging 9.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game since turning pro. He is currently part of the Team USA roster that will compete at the upcoming 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Veteran shooting guard Evan Fournier expects to leave the New York Knicks before the 2023-24 NBA season starts. Fournier shared this while discussing his future in a lengthy interview with French media outlet L’Equipe.

Fournier opened up on his challenging 2022-23 campaign with the Knicks, which saw him get removed from the rotation midway through the regular season. The 30-year-old player ended up playing 27 games averaging 6.1 points per game.

According to Fournier, Knicks’ head coach Tom Thibodeau never gave him an explanation for why he is not playing him.

“When he took me out of the five, he just told me he was going to try something else. Then at the first match of a road trip, he announced to me that I was leaving the rotation and ciao,” said Fournier.

Fournier is entering the final year of his contract, which will see him earn $18.9 million. However, he doesn’t expect to play it out in New York.

“I would be very surprised to be a Knick next year. They pay me 18 million; they have no interest in keeping me,” he added. “I’m going to be traded; it’s not possible otherwise. Or I’d be stuck, and so would they.”

Evan Fournier played with the Denver Nuggets, the Orlando Magic, and the Boston Celtics before joining the Knicks in 2021. He has been averaging 14.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game since entering the NBA.

Josh Hart and the New York Knicks agreed on Saturday to extend the deadline for the shooting guard’s $12.9 million player option until Thursday. Hart remains a priority player for the team to retain going into the next season.

At 28 years of age, Hart has proven to be critical to the Knicks’ success since arriving from the Portland Trail Blazers at the NBA’s trade deadline.

Over the course of last season, Hart shot 58% overall and 51.9% from 3-point range in 25 games. Together with Immanuel Quickley, Hart was a part of one of the league’s most clinical partnerships. While he may appear physically undersized, Hart proved to be an effective rebounder and versatile defenseman.

Hart was also clinical on the offensive, proving to be both a solid facilitator and a strong finisher at the net. He has emerged as the missing piece that the Knicks needed to develop a well-rounded offensive game.

During his six years in the NBA, Hart has played for four teams. He began his career with the Los Angeles Lakers before making the switch to the New Orleans Pelicans after two seasons. Following three seasons in New Orleans, Hart played two season in Portland before arriving in New York.

The New York Knicks announced on Saturday that their All-Star center Julius Randle underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle.

According to the Knicks, the procedure was successful, and the 28-year-old player will resume basketball activities later in the summer. Reportedly, Randle is expected to be ready for training camp and available at the start of the 2023-24 season.

Randle injured his left ankle twice this past season and was aware that he would need a procedure. However, he decided to play through the injury in an attempt to fuel a deep playoff run with the Knicks. The New York team ended their postseason in the second round, being eliminated by the Miami Heat in six games.

Randle had one of his best regular seasons in 2022-23, averaging career-high 25.1 points while adding 10.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. He was an NBA All-Star for the second time in his career while also getting an All-NBA Third Team nod.

However, the ankle injury visibly limited Randle’s impact in the playoffs, as he missed one game and struggled to be a difference-maker. He only had 16.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game in the 10 games he played.
