Seria A giants Juventus didn’t have an easy task in this year’s MLS All-Star game as many thought they would. Juve couldn’t get the job done in 90 minutes, being tied 1-1 against MLS All-Stars, and needed penalty shootout (5-3) to claim the win.

Juventus got the lead in the 21st minute when young striker Andrea Favilli scored the opening goal of the game. This didn’t disturb the MLS All-Stars, who continued to follow Tata Martino’s game plan, and the award came five minutes later when Josef Martinez of Atlanta United scored on his home turf. Martinez ended up claiming the MVP of the match.

Both teams wanted to get a win in the regular time and had their fair share of chances, but neither Juventus nor MLS All-Stars managed to have the final word. The game then went to penalties, which saw players converting all shots in the first three rounds. After that New York Red Bulls’ forward Bradley Wright-Phillips hit the post, and gave Juve’s back Mattia De Sciglio an opportunity to seal the game for his team, which he eventually did.

Although MLS All-Stars failed to get a win, they still provided entertainment for 72,317 people who came to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Wednesday night, setting an MLS All-Star Game attendance record in the process.
