The Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker Know Alexander suffered a torn Achilles during the 23-19 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Saturday. It appears as if the starting linebacker’s injury in the first quarter was non-contact.

“Kwon Alexander has a serious lower-body injury,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin announced after the game. “He’s being evaluated but not promising there.” Second-year linebacker Mark Robinson took over from Alexander while Elandon Roberts took over on-field communication in Alexander’s absence.

Alexander signed with the Steelers during training camp. He previously tore his Achilles tendon on Christmas Day 2020 when he was still playing for the New Orleans Saints. On that occasion, he was able to return after just nine months on the sidelines.

Pro Bowl linebacker Kwon Alexander is off the market. One of the best remaining free agents is reportedly signing with the New York Jets.

Alexander will ink a one-year deal with the New York team, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The 27-year-old player will reunite with Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh, who was his defensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers in 2019 and 2020.

Alexander spent the 2021 NFL season playing on a $3 million contract with the New Orleans Saints. He was limited to only 12 games due to an elbow injury but still managed to put up some impressive numbers. This included a career-high 3.5 sacks as well as 50 tackles, one forced fumble, and one interception.

The Jets had a big need on the linebacker position this offseason but strangely didn’t address it via free agency and draft. Alexander is now expected to immediately become a candidate for the starting position alongside C.J. Mosley and Quincy Williams. Veteran Marcell Harris and second-year player Hamsah Nasirildeen are also expected to be in the mix during training camp.

A fourth-round pick out of LSU, Kwon Alexander played his best football during his first three years in the league with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This included a Pro Bowl campaign in 2016 that saw him lead the league with 108 total tackles alongside 3.0 sacks, seven pass deflections, one interception, and one defensive touchdown.

New Orleans Saints got involved in the trade market once again as they hope new additions will fuel their Super Bowl aspirations. The team announced on Monday that they have made a deal with the San Francisco 49ers that landed them linebacker Kwon Alexander.

In order to get Alexander, the Saints gave up a conditional fifth-round pick in 2021 and veteran Kiko Alonso.

In Alexander, the Saints get a talented player whose only concern is availability. In the past two seasons, the 26-year-old linebacker missed 18 games while also being unavailable for the past three weeks.

Still, when healthy, Alexander can be a difference-maker on the field, and this is exactly why the Saints went out and got him.

“We’ve had a chance obviously to see this player in our division,” said New Orleans’ head coach Payton alluding to the fact that Alexander previously played with Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “It’s adding another player that we think fits what we’re doing. It also gives us another athletic player at that position that can run.”

San Francisco had high hopes for Kwon Alexander when they signed him to a four-year, $54 million contract in 2018. Still, his frequent injuries influenced the emergence of some younger players, which made the 49ers comfortable with dealing him and getting some salary relief alongside draft assets.

Alonso might also be a valuable pickup depth-wise and could provide coverage if San Francisco gets into an unfortunate injury-riddled stretch again.

Alexander will ink a one-year deal with the New York team, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The 27-year-old player will reunite with Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh, who was his defensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers in 2019 and 2020.

New Orleans Saints got involved in the trade market once again as they hope new additions will fuel their Super Bowl aspirations. The team announced on Monday that they have made a deal with the San Francisco 49ers that landed them linebacker Kwon Alexander.
