Pro Bowl linebacker Kwon Alexander is off the market. One of the best remaining free agents is reportedly signing with the New York Jets.

Alexander will ink a one-year deal with the New York team, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The 27-year-old player will reunite with Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh, who was his defensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers in 2019 and 2020.

Alexander spent the 2021 NFL season playing on a $3 million contract with the New Orleans Saints. He was limited to only 12 games due to an elbow injury but still managed to put up some impressive numbers. This included a career-high 3.5 sacks as well as 50 tackles, one forced fumble, and one interception.

The Jets had a big need on the linebacker position this offseason but strangely didn’t address it via free agency and draft. Alexander is now expected to immediately become a candidate for the starting position alongside C.J. Mosley and Quincy Williams. Veteran Marcell Harris and second-year player Hamsah Nasirildeen are also expected to be in the mix during training camp.

A fourth-round pick out of LSU, Kwon Alexander played his best football during his first three years in the league with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This included a Pro Bowl campaign in 2016 that saw him lead the league with 108 total tackles alongside 3.0 sacks, seven pass deflections, one interception, and one defensive touchdown.
