The U.S. youth international Konrad de la Fuente signed a contract extension with Barcelona just a couple of months ago, but that isn’t stopping other clubs from trying to lure him from Camp Nou.

According to influential Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are keen on de la Fuente and have approached Barca to inquire for the player. The Catalan club reportedly rejected these advances and isn’t willing to give up on the 19-year-old star unless they receive substantial compensation.

De la Fuente signed an extension with Barcelona in June, which keeps him under contract until 2020. The deal reportedly came with a $58 million release clause that will increase to $116 million if he makes a first-team debut for the club.

Konrad de la Fuente joined Barca’s youth ranks in 2013 and has made his way to the club’s B team in recent years. He made four appearances for Barcelona B since 2018 but is still waiting to make an appearance with the senior squad. The lack of the first-team opportunity even made de la Fuente consider an exit this summer, but the club managed to convince him to stay.

De la Fuente’s status might change under new head coach Ronald Koeman, who praised him in recent media appearances. Koeman also gave De la Fuente a chance to play in recent friendlies, the last one being the 3-1 win against Girona last week.

“If I had to highlight one of the youngsters, I would say Konrad, I am really happy with him,” said Koeman at the time.

Winger Konrad de la Fuente, who is United States youth international, committed his future to Barcelona on Monday. According to ESPN, de la Fuente signed a new deal with La Liga giants that will keep him on Camp Nou until 2022.

Reportedly, de la Fuente’s new contract has a $50 million release clause that will double in value if the youngster gets promoted to Barca’s first team. Until then, he is expected to play for Barcelona B, which competes in the third level of the Spanish football league system.

De la Fuente’s contract with Barcelona was set to expire this summer, and the 18-year-old reportedly had his doubts about inking a new deal. He attracted interest from several high-profile clubs in recent months and was even offered the first-team opportunity by Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin.

However, Barca eventually managed to convince de la Fuente that he’ll have a better opportunity to progress in Spain and that the team won’t hesitate to give him an opportunity if he does well with Barcelona B.

Konrad de la Fuente joined Barcelona’s youth academy La Masia in 2013. He made his way to Barcelona B in 2018 and since made five appearances for the team while scoring one goal.

De la Fuente also represents the US youth team on an international level. Most recently, he played eight games with United States U20.

Konrad de la Fuente, who currently renewed his contract with the prestigious European side FC Barcelona, has big dreams when it comes to the future of the US Men’s National Team and international glory.

De la Fuente, who currently plays as a winger for Barca’s top youth team at the age of 18, expressed in an interview with ESPN that his goal is to win a World Cup with his country in the future.

“My goal with the national team is to win a World Cup,” said de la Fuente. “That’s my personal goal. Everyone has their own and, for me, it’s to win a World Cup. I definitely think it can happen. If we continue to grow in our clubs in Europe, I think we can do something special.”

There is currently an unprecedented number of young Americans playing for prestigious European clubs, including Christian Pulisic at Chelsea and Sergino Dest at Ajax.

De la Fuente has yet to make his debut with the senior national team, nor has he played for the senior club team in Barcelona. He, however, was one of the stars of the USMNT U-20 team that reached the World Cup quarter-finals last year.

American soccer is poised to take a step forward soon, and with ambitious goals like de la Fuente’s, it seems as if the players are aiming their targets especially high.
