Winger Konrad de la Fuente, who is United States youth international, committed his future to Barcelona on Monday. According to ESPN, de la Fuente signed a new deal with La Liga giants that will keep him on Camp Nou until 2022.

Reportedly, de la Fuente’s new contract has a $50 million release clause that will double in value if the youngster gets promoted to Barca’s first team. Until then, he is expected to play for Barcelona B, which competes in the third level of the Spanish football league system.

De la Fuente’s contract with Barcelona was set to expire this summer, and the 18-year-old reportedly had his doubts about inking a new deal. He attracted interest from several high-profile clubs in recent months and was even offered the first-team opportunity by Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin.

However, Barca eventually managed to convince de la Fuente that he’ll have a better opportunity to progress in Spain and that the team won’t hesitate to give him an opportunity if he does well with Barcelona B.

Konrad de la Fuente joined Barcelona’s youth academy La Masia in 2013. He made his way to Barcelona B in 2018 and since made five appearances for the team while scoring one goal.

De la Fuente also represents the US youth team on an international level. Most recently, he played eight games with United States U20.
