Washington Wizards’ guard John Wall hasn’t played basketball since late 2018, but it appears that his return to court is getting near. Wall recently told the media that he feels healthy after previously undergoing two surgeries and is “itching” to play basketball again.

Wall initially had a surgery to address bone spurs in his left heel in December 2018, which ruled him out for the remainder of the 2018/19 season. Just as he was getting closer to recovering, the five-time All-Star tore his Achilles and had to undergo another surgery which meant he was set to miss the entire 2019/20.

However, according to Wall, the injury issues are now behind him.

“I’m 110%, I’m healthy,” Wall told reporters during a video call on Tuesday while adding that he is trying to get “in the best shape possible,” and he’s “itching to get back out there.”

Despite the fact that John Wall is feeling impatient about returning to basketball, there is little chance of him playing in 2019/20. Both Wall and the Wizards’ organization said on multiple occasions that they won’t take any risks and that he won’t return even if the current season resumes at a later point than expected.

Without Wall on the court, shooting guard Bradley Beal took over as Wizard’s leader and has excelled in the role averaging NBA’s second-best average of 30.5 points per game. Still, Beal’s excellence wasn’t enough for Washington to play a meaningful role in the East, as they are currently 24-40 and 5.5 games behind the playoff spot.

Washington Wizards’ John Wall was already sidelined for the rest of 2018-19 NBA season due to a heel surgery, but his troubles didn’t stop here. Wizards announced on Tuesday that Wall now tore his Achilles tendon “after slipping and falling in his home.”

According to the team’s official statement, Wall will now have to undergo surgery to repair the Achilles tendon rupture with the exact date of the procedure still left to be determined. The 28-year-old “is expected to return to full basketball activity in approximately 12 months from the time of the surgery.”

After missing a total of 41 games last season due to a knee injury, John Wall managed to play only 32 games in 2018-19 before undergoing a procedure to remove bone spurs from his left heel in January. He decided to get the surgery in order to avoid more severe issues and was expected to return in six to eight months.

The Washington Post reports that Wall stumbled and fell in his home on 29th January, which led to Achilles tendon tear. This was, however, only discovered on Monday, when the player underwent a follow-up surgery to clean the infection on the site of the heel procedure.

John Wall averaged 20.7 points, 8.7 assists, and 3.6 rebounds in the season before he went down with the injury.

Remember when people thought Washington Wizards are better without their All-Star point guard John Wall who went down with an injury in January? Well, now the Wizards find themselves on a three games losing streak (including the ugly loss against the tanking New York Knicks), as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference and good chances to drop down the seventh or eighth spot. So, they do need Wall and luckily for them, the 27-year-old returned to the practice after a recovering from a knee injury.

Speaking with the reporters on Monday, after his second practice from the injury, Wall said he is “feeling great” at the moment but he isn’t sure when he’ll step on the basketball court again. He also added that he doesn’t intend to change his style of game.

When I’ve had an injury in the past, I don’t think about it. I go out there and play the same way I played before, and that’s with a lot of aggression, a lot of attacking mode, a lot of fast pace. And I’ve been doing that,” – he said. “All I had to do was show that glimpse and that showed me I was being myself again.

Wizards coach Scott Brooks said that although the team needs him, they won’t rush him back and that he won’t play in the upcoming clash vs San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.

It’s getting close. He’s had two really, really good days. His energy level is high. He’s anxious. You can tell. He wants to get out there,” – said Brooks. “We still want to be patient.

John Wall played his last game with the Wizards on January 25. Since then, the team has a 14-11 record, and they are 19-17 in total without him this season.

Washington Wizards have announced that their All-Star point guard John Wall will undergo a knee surgery on Wednesday. Although the team didn’t provide a timeline for Wall’s recovery, ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that he could be out for two months. This means that Wall will not participate in the NBA All-Star game which is scheduled for next month. He was supposed to play for Team LeBron.

John Wall banged his knees in a game against the Dallas Mavericks in November and has been having issues with it ever since. After an MRI on his left knee, he consulted surgeon Richard Parker, who already performed procedures on his knees in 2016, and came to a conclusion to have the surgery now. It was reported that Wall insisted to take care of his injury as soon as possible, so he could return in time for the playoffs.

Washington Wizards are currently on the sixth spot of the Eastern Conference with 27-22 record, tied with Milwaukee Bucks on the fifth and two games behind the Miami Heat on the fourth. With Wall out of the picture, it will be upon Bradley Beal to carry the load for the team in the upcoming games and try to hold down the fortress until the Wizards’ main guy returns.

John Wall was the first overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. Since then he was named to NBA All-Rookie First Team, was NBA All-Star five times and received an All-NBA selection in 2017. In this season he has been averaging 19.4 points and 9.3 assists per game.
