The Buffalo Bills made a blockbuster trade on Wednesday, but not the one their fans will particularly like. The team announced that they traded a star wide receiver to the Houston Texans in exchange for a second-round pick in 2025.

As part of the trade, Houston will also get a 2024 sixth-rounder (No. 189 overall) and a fifth-round selection pick in 2025. The Bills are receiving a second-rounder that the Texans previously acquired from the Minnesota Vikings.

By trading Diggs, the Bills are now without a clear No. 1 option at the wide receiver position. They previously also let Gabe Davis, their second-leading receiver last season, walk in free agency. However, general manager Brandon Beane insisted during a press conference on Wednesday that trading Diggs doesn’t indicate a step back for the franchise.

Diggs finished the 2023 season with 107 catches for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns. However, his numbers declined as the season progressed. He failed to eclipse 100 receiving yards since Week 7 and didn’t have a touchdown in the final six games of the regular season.

By acquiring Diggs, the Texans will give their standout quarterback C.J. Stroud another reliable target. He will join a respectable receiving corps that also includes wideouts Nico Collins and Tank Dell and tight end Dalton Schultz.

The Houston Texans will be without their starting quarterback C.J. Stroud for the second straight week. The rookie sensation is still in concussion protocol and is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to Texans’ head coach, DeMeco Ryans.

Stroud suffered a concussion in a Week 14 loss to the New York Jets. He hasn’t practiced since, and his recovery appears to be taking longer than expected

“Each concussion is different,” Ryans told reporters on Wednesday. “It takes a different amount of time for each person to heal. He’s just going through the protocol just like everyone else has. The most important thing is making sure C.J. is healthy.”

Stroud has played exceptionally in his rookie year and looked like a home-run selection for the Texans. The Ohio State product has thrown for 3,631 yards and 20 touchdowns so far in 2023 while being the main reason why the team is in the midst of a playoff race.

With Stroud out, the Texans will once again start veteran Case Keenum under center. Keenum had 229 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in last week’s 16-19 win over the Tennessee Titans.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the agreement is worth $23 million and comes with $20 million in guarantees. Collins had one year left on a two-year, $17 million deal he signed back in 2022.

Collins started 15 games last season and had 3.5 sacks, 10 QB hits, and two pass deflections. He also posted a career-high in tackles with 37 while being a key piece in run defense.
