The Houston Texans finally showed some life in the 2023 season by getting a 37-17 upset win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud played a big part for the Texans and ended up earning some high praise from his teammates.

Stroud completed 20 out of 30 pass attempts against the Jags, finishing the game with 280 passing yards and two touchdowns. By doing so, he became the first quarterback in NFL history to have at least 900 passing yards, four touchdowns, and not a single interception in his first three games as a pro.

Tight end Brevin Jordan is particularly impressed by Stroud, telling reporters on Sunday that the Texans “drafted the right guy” in Ohio State product.

“The best thing that happened to the Houston Texans franchise was us beating the Indianapolis Colts last game, last year,” Jordan said. “We drafted the right guy. Man, he’s a leader. He’s a phenomenal player and a phenomenal guy with God-given talent. Dude, he’s unbelievable.”

Jordan is referring to the fact that the Texans originally had the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft until the Week 18 win over the Colts that caused them to end up with the second overall pick. This caused Houston to miss out on Alabama’s Bryce Young, reportedly their preferred pick, and get a consolation prize in Stroud.

While it’s still early to tell, Stroud seems like a better pick early on. Young has been struggling in his first two starts, throwing for a total of 299 yards, two TDs, and two interceptions before going down with an ankle injury.
