Francisco Lindor era at Cleveland Indians is coming to an end. And it is most likely to be an unceremonious one.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Indians have decided to trade Lindor and want to get the job done before the Opening Day of the 2021 MLB season. The organization already informed interested teams about their intent and now is waiting to see what kind of package they can get for the All-Star shortstop.

Organizations rarely want to trade their star players, but this move was a long time coming for the Indians. Lindor has just one year left on his deal and hasn’t given any indications that he could resign. This would put Cleveland in jeopardy of losing him for nothing, and the organization isn’t willing to take this risk.

Another reason why Indians are looking to part ways is the financial struggles that saw them attempting to shed salary by all means possible. This even included rejecting the option on three-time All-Star reliever Brad Hand just to get out of his bargain $10 million salary.

Francisco Lindor has a slightly weaker year in 2020 by his standards, but Cleveland is expected to see a bidding war for the 26-year-old. Lindor, who is a career .285 batter, has made four consecutive All-Star teams since 2016 and has two Gold Glove Awards and two Silver Slugger Awards in his trophy case.

Cleveland Indians and All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor were set on getting a long-term deal done this offseason, but it seems that won’t be the case. According to Lindor, the two sides have opted to pause the contract negotiations for now and won’t be resuming them anytime soon.

Lindor inked a one-year, $17.5 million deal with Cleveland earlier this year, avoiding arbitration and keeping the 26-year-old with the franchise at least through 2021. Indians wanted to use the momentum and work out a longer contract with the player in recent weeks, but their offer just wasn’t good enough.

“We had good conversations,” Lindor told The Athletic in a story published on Monday. “We couldn’t come up with an agreement. So we put that aside and let’s focus on winning.”

While it remains unclear which number would make Lindor comfortable inking an extension with Indians, there is an understanding that it would take north of nine-year, $215 million that Christian Yelich recently got from Milwaukee Brewers.

“My agent knows my value. I know my value. But that’s something that’s a little more private,” he added. “But I do know what’s fair for both sides. I’m very aware. I’ve studied it.”

Francisco Lindor has been one of Cleveland Indians’ key players since he made his MLB debut in 2015. Since 2016, Lindor has four consecutive All-Star appearances while earning two Silver Sluggers and two Golden Glove awards.

Lindor is coming off another impressive season in 2019 when he batted .284 while adding 32 home runs, 74 RBIs, and 22 steals.

Cleveland Indians spent the past few weeks considering various trade proposals for their All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor, but it seems like no one made them a compelling offer. Indians’ president Chris Antonetti told the media on Wednesday that he expects Lindor to start the 2020 MLB season with the team.

Lindor has a deal with Cleveland that runs through 2021, but so far, he declined to ink a long-term extension with the team. Indians ended up making him available for trades this offseason, trying to get the most value in a deal before he approaches free agency. The 26-year-old attracted interest from Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres in recent weeks, but neither came through with a satisfying offer.

“I still have every expectation that Francisco will be our shortstop Opening Day,” Antonetti said during a conference call with reporters. “I’m more confident today in saying that, as more of the offseason has passed. But that’s still our expectation.”

Francisco Lindor was one of the best players in baseball in 2019, even though the Indians narrowly missed the postseason. He finished the year hitting .284 with 32 home runs, 74 RBIs and 22 steals, which earned him fourth consecutive All-Star appearance and Gold Glove Award.

Lindor spent his entire MLB career with the Indians, making his majors debut in 2015. His career stats include .288 batting average with 130 homers and 384 RBIs.

Cleveland Indians’ star shortstop Francisco Lindor just can’t catch a break from injuries. While still recovering from a strained right calf muscle he suffered in February, Lindor sprained his left ankle which will further prolong his return to baseball.

According to Indians’ manager Terry Francona, Lindor got hurt running the bases during a minor league intrasquad game. MRI tests showed a mild to moderate sprain and the 25-year-old is now ruled out indefinitely while the team’s medical staff is working to devise the best plan for his recovery.

“Frankie twisted his ankle on Tuesday,” – Francona told reporters on Wednesday. “He got caught in a rundown between first and second and the dirt gave way a little and he twisted his ankle.”

“They (the team’s medical staff) are working it up right now,” – he added. “It’s hard to give a timetable because he’s already battling something else (strained right calf)… They’re trying to get some second opinions. I watched it on tape and it didn’t look (that bad). He walked off the field, but right now they are trying to put their heads together and get some more information.”

Francisco Lindor was one of Cleveland’s best players in the recent year and confirmed that with a standout 2018 season in which he earned his third All-Star appearance while winning his second Silver Slugger Award.

Lindor finished the year batting .277 alongside 38 home runs and 92 RBIs.

Cleveland Indians will have to enter the 2019 MLB seasons without one of their best players. The team announced on Friday that their All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor suffered a right calf strain during workouts and will have to miss up to nine weeks.

This means that if everything goes well, Lindor will get back in April and won’t play in the season opener. Indians start the regular season on March 28th against Minnesota Twins.

Cleveland will hope that Francisco Lindor can get to his best shape as soon as possible, especially since he supposed to be the player entire team relies on this upcoming season. After Indians dealt several veteran players, including catcher Yan Gomes and outfielder Michael Brantley, they hoped Lindor could step in and take on a more prominent leadership role.

It remains to be seen whether the 25-year-old is interested in something like this since he rejected the opportunity to sign a long term deal with the franchise earlier this year. Instead, in order to avoid arbitration, he inked a one-year, $10.55 million contract.

Francisco Lindor went on a great run in 2018, during which he batted .277 while managing 38 home runs, 92 RBIs, and league-high 129 runs. This great performance earned him his third straight All-Star appearance, while he also received a Silver Slugger Award.
