Cleveland Indians’ star shortstop Francisco Lindor just can’t catch a break from injuries. While still recovering from a strained right calf muscle he suffered in February, Lindor sprained his left ankle which will further prolong his return to baseball.
According to Indians’ manager Terry Francona, Lindor got hurt running the bases during a minor league intrasquad game. MRI tests showed a mild to moderate sprain and the 25-year-old is now ruled out indefinitely while the team’s medical staff is working to devise the best plan for his recovery.
“Frankie twisted his ankle on Tuesday,” – Francona told reporters on Wednesday. “He got caught in a rundown between first and second and the dirt gave way a little and he twisted his ankle.”
“They (the team’s medical staff) are working it up right now,” – he added. “It’s hard to give a timetable because he’s already battling something else (strained right calf)… They’re trying to get some second opinions. I watched it on tape and it didn’t look (that bad). He walked off the field, but right now they are trying to put their heads together and get some more information.”
Francisco Lindor was one of Cleveland’s best players in the recent year and confirmed that with a standout 2018 season in which he earned his third All-Star appearance while winning his second Silver Slugger Award.
Lindor finished the year batting .277 alongside 38 home runs and 92 RBIs.
