England’s Football Association has confirmed that Gareth Southgate will remain manager of the national team through to Euro 2024. While his contract is valid through the next two years, Southgate was contemplating whether to leave his role following England’s quarterfinal World Cup exit after losing 2-1 to France.

“We are delighted to confirm that Gareth Southgate is continuing as England manager, and will lead our Euro 2024 campaign,” FA chief executive Mark Bullingham confirmed. He continued to state that the 52-year-old manager continues to have the support of the FA and that preparations for the Three Lions’ Euro 2024 campaign are set to commence now.

Southgate has expressed over fans’ views towards him as of late, not only because of England’s World Cup elimination but also because of the team’s relegation from League A of the UEFA Nations League. Southgate’s lowest moment during the Three Lions’ Nations League campaign came when he was booed by his own fans after England was thumped 4-0 by Hungary at home.

Despite his lack of certainty over his England future, the FA as well as multiple players reached out to him to express their support and hope that he would remain in his role.

England defender Gary Cahill is confident that his side will learn from their 1-0 final Group stage game defeat against Belgium on Thursday.

The game was a fairly boring game and both sides opted to rest their key players as both had already qualified for the round of 16 even before kickoff.

The result, however, means that Belgium are the group winners and they will play against Japan in the last 16. England meanwhile will play against Colombia in what will be a testing encounter for Gareth Southgate’s men.

While England are out of the group and have bettered their performance from 2014 where they were knocked out during the group stage, the result will be frustrating to many die-hard England fans.

Many critics of England have also criticized them for failing to rise up against the big guns and this result will do nothing to silence their doubters.

The way they (Belgium) moved positions and kept the ball – it was a good benchmark for what is to come. We made eight changes, nine if you include the substitution at half-time. Things were always going to be a little bit disjointed.”

England defeated Panama 6-1 to all but assure themselves a place in the last 16 of the World Cup.

The game started off on a good note for the Three Lions as defender John Stones put them in the lead early on during the first half as he scored from a corner.

The phenomenal Harry Kane soon doubled the lead from the penalty spot after Jesse Lingard was brought down in the area. Lingard went on to score the third.

Defender Stones went on to score his second of the game with a header from a set-piece. After England was handed a second penalty before the break, Kane again converted to score his second of the game.

During the second half, Kane managed to gain a hat-trick after a shot from Ruben Loftus-Cheek deflected off him and went into the net.

Panama managed to get a consolation goal late on during the game as Felipe Baloyi scored after a free-kick crossed his pass.

The 37-year-old Baloyi is set to retire from professional football after the World Cup. The goal was Panama’s first in World Cup history and it is fitting that he has scored it before he ends his career.

Arsenal named Unai Emery as the successor to long-serving manager Arsene Wenger.

West Ham United’s Mark Noble has insisted that there is no bad blood between himself and Manchester United star Paul Pogba after the two players were recently involved in a scuffle.

The French international Pogba upended Noble during the 87th minute of the recent Premier League clash between the two teams and the veteran Noble responded angrily by grappling his opponent.

The incident was an ugly one and both players were booked. Noble has however played down the incident and insisted that there is no bad blood.
