United States men’s national team right back DeAndre Yedlin has a new team. FC Cincinnati confirmed on Monday that they have acquired Yedlin in a transfer from Inter Miami.

The two teams didn’t disclose details of the deal. However, The Athletic’s Tom Bogert reports that Miami received $172,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) for Yedlin.

Yedlin leaving doesn’t come as a surprise, considering he was one of the players Inter made available last month in an attempt to shed salary and acquire allocation money. The MLS side also moved on from Brazilian midfielder Gregore, while the likes of Jean Mota, Robert Taylor, and Serhiy Kryvtsov remain available.

DeAndre Yedlin joined Inter Miami ahead of the 2022 MLS season, signing a four-year contract with an option for another year. Yedlin ended up playing a total of 82 games for Miami, dishing eight assists and helping the club win the Leagues Cup in 2023.

Yedlin made his professional debut in 2013 with the Seattle Sounders. He then embarked on a successful stint in Europe that saw him suit up for Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and Galatasaray, among other clubs.

Yedlin collected 81 call-ups for USMNT and is the only U.S. player to play in both the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Inter Miami are reportedly cleaning house ahead of the 2024 MLS season. According to Tom Bogert of The Athletic, Miami made several players available for transfer, including USMNT right back DeAndre Yedlin, in an effort to become roster-compliant for the upcoming campaign.

Besides Yedlin, Miami would also like to move on from defensive midfielder Gregore, attacking midfielder Jean Mota, wing-back Robert Taylor and defender Sergii Kryvtsov. French striker Corentin Jean is also believed to be on the exit door, with the club working on either trading him or reaching a contract buyout with the 28-year-old.

Reportedly, Inter Miami needs to generate additional allocation money in order to use it as an extension of the base salary budget and keep other high-paid players on their roster. Additionally, the departures would help them remove some salary from their books.

Inter Miami already made various moves this offseason to help their chances of becoming roster compliant. They traded Kamal Miller and Chris McVey to Portland Timbers and D.C. United respectively, while selling Nicolas Stefanelli to Hungarian club Fehervar FC. Miami also let several players leave the club for free, including former MLS MVP Josef Martínez.

Miami was also active when it comes to inbound moves, which included signing Barcelona legend Luis Suarez on a free contract and agreeing to a reported $8 million transfer for Argentine prospect Federico Redondo.

United States international right-back DeAndre Yedlin won’t be returning to the MLS. At least not for now.

Despite numerous rumors linking him to several MLS clubs, DeAndre Yedlin chose to continue his career in Turkey. He joined Super Lig side Galatasaray on Monday, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Yedlin was set to become a free agent in the summer, so Premier League side Newcastle United agreed to let him go without asking for a transfer fee. However, the English club will get compensation in the future based on the 27-year-old player’s performances while also being entitled to a percentage from future sales.

DeAndre Yedlin joined Newcastle in 2016 and was a key member of their starting lineup early on. In recent seasons, however, he was moved to the bench and struggled to get significant playing time. The trend continued in 2020-21, as he made only six appearances in the Premier League.

Things should change in Turkey, as Yedlin is expected to get a prominent role with his new club. Galatasaray lacks a reliable option on the right side, and the American should be a perfect fit.

Besides getting more action, Yedlin will also have a chance to compete for trophies with Galatasaray. The club is currently third in Super Lig, trailing leaders Fenerbahce six points with one game in hand, while they are also regularly playing in European competitions.

The United States international left-back DeAndre Yedlin is reportedly set to leave the Premier League side Newcastle United. According to sources close to the club, Yedlin has no future at the club and could exit even before his contract expires in the summer of 2021.

Tom Bogert reported earlier this week that Yedlin had a chat with the team’s front office, and was told that the team wouldn’t offer him an extension at this point. The 27-year-old Yedlin already started looking into other options and even had exploratory talks with MLS teams.

However, Bogert added that Yedlin’s return to the United States remains unlikely. The player still wants to play at the highest level, while the finances would be problematic as well as he would require a Designated Player contract.

DeAndre Yedlin started his career with Seattle Sounders FC, with whom he won MLS Supporters’ Shield and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. He also earned two MLS All-Star appearances before making a move to Tottenham in 2014.

Yedlin’s time in London was far from successful, as he only played one game with Tottenham before being sent on loan to Sunderland. Upon his return next season, he was sold to Newcastle for a reported $6.5 million in 2016.

Yedlin has been with USMNT since 2014 and has made 62 appearances for the senior team so far.
