United States international right-back DeAndre Yedlin won’t be returning to the MLS. At least not for now.

Despite numerous rumors linking him to several MLS clubs, DeAndre Yedlin chose to continue his career in Turkey. He joined Super Lig side Galatasaray on Monday, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Yedlin was set to become a free agent in the summer, so Premier League side Newcastle United agreed to let him go without asking for a transfer fee. However, the English club will get compensation in the future based on the 27-year-old player’s performances while also being entitled to a percentage from future sales.

DeAndre Yedlin joined Newcastle in 2016 and was a key member of their starting lineup early on. In recent seasons, however, he was moved to the bench and struggled to get significant playing time. The trend continued in 2020-21, as he made only six appearances in the Premier League.

Things should change in Turkey, as Yedlin is expected to get a prominent role with his new club. Galatasaray lacks a reliable option on the right side, and the American should be a perfect fit.

Besides getting more action, Yedlin will also have a chance to compete for trophies with Galatasaray. The club is currently third in Super Lig, trailing leaders Fenerbahce six points with one game in hand, while they are also regularly playing in European competitions.
